All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

Well, I guess that tells you how important a serviceable big is- because it was a bad 20 years
And that was before we had an NIL disadvantage!

I think Niko's system is designed to work around the lack of a traditional center/5.
All I am asking for from Mpoyi is a guy who can come in and give us a physical presence for 15+ minutes...rebound and change shots (in a way that the 6-7 Vaihola can't). To me the question is whether or not he can learn quickly where to be on both ends of the court.
I'd be shocked if Mpoyi plays 15 mins a game. Hope he proves ne wrong. When he does I'll revisit this thread for my serving of humble pie.

My guess is Niko goes out and gets a guy none of knows about and knocks our socks off. Just to let us all know he’s running the show and not us. 😂
That's exactly what happened with Langston Reynolds! Averaging 17ppg in the Big Sky at Northern Colorado doesn't always translate to the Big Ten, but he ended up becoming our best defender and playmaker! Let Niko cook.

I have no clue what will happen- I am just hoping that he has the potential that he appears to and it can be tapped into sooner, rather than later! :)

I feel Mpoyi needs to play 12 to 15 minutes a game for us to have a chance to tread water. The most expensive position in the portal is bigs...if we get a big in the portal I think it'll be a diamond in the rough type that others overlook...not the same position...but like Tyson at NC ...a guy good somewhere once but horrible lately.
Will we take a flyer on a guy who has been injured? Will we take a flyer on a guy who isn't in basketball shape believing he'll change? (Because of the $ discount). Didn't work this season.

Medved does want more size but it doesn't necessarily mean height. Duke was pretty damn tough inside with 6'9" Boozer.
That Baylor team that won the championship didn’t have a starter over 6’8”

Conference player of the year as a freshman
Maybe I'm thinking about this too much but if I was a highly regarded recruit, I would strongly consider going to a successful mid/low-major program as a freshman. You can be the star, develop your game, and then you will be a super hot commodity in the transfer portal and can see what school would be a great fit for you as a sophomore.

Feels like the Nolan Groves/Daniel Freitag's of the world often struggle as freshmen and languish on the bench, then have to rehabilitate themselves.

Medved isn't talking about have a 7 foot center necessarily. It was nice to have Durkin, Grove, Tyson, and Crocker Johnson on the floor as well as Reynolds. First 4 are over 6'7" and Reynolds at 6'4" was pretty physical.
This is funny, Durkin may be 6'8", but is pretty soft player. Tyson isn't really a scrapper either.
What they need is some scrappy & beefier guys who can set screens, hold up inside and get rebounds. Don't really need a 7 footer. I'm thinking of a guy like Frank the Tank from a few years ago (hopefully a little more skilled).
heck, David Roddy (MN kid) was 6'4" and was Niko's best player at CSU and now in the NBA.

That will happen, and nothing wrong with it. You won't have a roster with 15 guys that play. No one does. Funny how people have such an issue with it.
My response was totally tounge in cheek... I am fully aware you won't have a roster full of studds

Royce has slimmed down since his Senate campaign...

Funny that the portal isn't open yet...

EDIT: He's a grad transfer so he doesn't need to wait for the portal to open ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's just in the past those practice players ended up being the 10th guy instead of the 14th. Some residual shell shock is perfectly reasonable.

When you’re fretting the possibility of Daniel Freitag signing for character issues, but longing for Royce White to return… woof.
