All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

How about wins and losses? Do those count in your eyes?

You make it sound as if the only evidence being provided is "Rah-rah, boolah-boolah, my team is great!"

How about actual performance on the field? I'm talking about an objective, direct comparison between the SEC and the B1G in postseason games. That's hardly the same thing as "fans' subjective judgements".

Sure, that's relavent but depending upon the results, not necessarily conclusive. If the two conferences meet in 3 bowls but the Big Ten is 2-1, can you really say one is better than the other based on those results?

Yes you can.
Even if they’re 0-3 you can say the SEC is superior!!!!!

I'd say the current situation, 5-0 vs 2-4 in this post season, is starting to look like more than a blip.

As I recall, the B1G was dominant last post season as well.

It's beginning to look like the B1G Just Plays Better Football... to coin a slogan.

But we have the head-to-head matchups to look forward to. Those will be interesting.

I’m not even sure I need to argue the big ten is better: they’re pretty similar to me

I would just like it to be accepted fact that even though Miami is ACC and A&M is SEC…we should still play the game.
And maybe BYU should not have to go 12-1 to be above 10-3 bama….stuff like that.

Hmmmm. But you'd agree, I assume, that 5-0 is clearly better than 2-4 (rather than 'pretty similar').

Yes?
The record is not similar
The conferences are pretty similar, to me.

Mn beating New Mexico and Houston beating LSU without a coach does not mean Vanderbilt loses to Iowa.
They may lose to Iowa…but it has more to do with Vanderbilt and Iowa than it does with conference affiliation

?
They are similar in record.
You know a lot more than 11 games have been played this year right?

Of course.

I'm just trying to understand how the two conferences are similar, as you claim they are.

They obviously are not similar in post season wins and losses. Maybe that's not important, though?

Where do you see the similarities?

Well I don’t really see the post season bowls as a good barometer
Too many variables.
You can take something from it, but I’m not quite sure what.

I see similarities in the leagues in that they both have good teams. Medium teams and below average teams.

And the team conference doesn’t really matter once the ball is kicked off.
I think they leagues are pretty similar quality top to bottom

If Alabama beats Indiana and Georgia wins the national title it wouldn’t mean that the big ten should have gotten fewer teams in and I’d still think BYU,
Miami, and Notre dame should all have been in before Oklahoma and bama

No they are not
At least in the college football media the perception is that it’s:
1) SEC

Distant 2) big ten

Distant 3) anyone else

Thanks. That's the main point.

If they're similar (as you say) or, even more perplexing, if the B1G is actually the better conference (as I maintain) then why are public perceptions so skewed in favor of the SEC?

Because of the ESPN hype. And ESPN carries a lot of weight in college football. Too much.

I don’t disagree and I don’t think the big ten should sign up for an extension of the playoffs unless it goes out to open bid

For sure agree with that:

let’s ignore the middle 2 of the big ten (Minnesota and Washington)

Indiana vs Georgia
Alabama vs Ohio state
Ole Miss vs Oregon
Texas A&M vs Michigan
Oklahoma vs USC
Texas vs Iowa
Vanderbilt vs Illinois
tennesee vs Nebraska
Missouri vs northwestern
LSU vs Penn state
Kentucky vs UCLA
Florida vs Rutgers
Auburn vs Wisconsin
Miss state vs Maryland
South Carolina vs Michigan state
Arkansas vs Purdue

I probably pick
Georgia
Ohio state
Oregon
Michigan
USC
Texas
Vanderbilt
Tennessee
Northwestern
Penn state
UCLA
Rutgers
Wisconsin
Miss State
Michigan state
Arkansas

But there aren’t a a lot of easy games to pick. The leagues are really close to me….to me the biggest SEC advantage is 5-8
But to get those matchups you actually ignore the real big ten 8-9.
I would pick
Indiana
Ohio State
Ole Miss
A&M
USC
Iowa
Vandy
Tennessee
Mizzou
Penn State
UCLA
Rutgers
Auburn
Maryland
Sparty
Purdue
You're correct most of these games could go either way, but I have a 10-6 edge for the carpetbaggers

Once Indiana and Ohio State take care of business the narrative will take care of itself
Agreed if all three big ten teams make the semis, will be in a good spot for an all big ten final. Ohio State should be able to take care of Miami and Ole Miss/Georgia. Indiana will really have to earn it if they get rematches with Oregon and Ohio State. Guessing both teams felt like they left a lot of meat on the bone against IU

Birmingham Bowl today. Georgia Southern and App State. Two Sun Belt teams that DO NOT like one another. App State got in with a 5-7 record due to academics if folks are wondering why we have an all Sun Belt Bowl. GSU won this year 25-23 at App State. So it could be a fun game despite not being an exciting matchup on paper.

@GSUsTALON getting prepped

Talon is breaking out the top notch shine for this one.

I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that Indiana is favored vs. Alabama. I know that they deserve to be, but at some day Indiana is going to wake up and remember that they are Indiana and lose 49-0. Times have changed....

I have a nagging feeling that Alabama will pull the upset. They really don't have anything to lose and will be feeling good after their first round win.

Indiana has been executing at an almost inhuman level. It just doesn't seem possible for them to keep that up. I hope they do though.

Now that they make decent money they can have cars that go 110 mph. I'm guessing that even in the old days players could afford pot.

Agreed. Sometimes Bama reminds itself that it's loaded with blue chip talent and physically dominates their opponent in a way only a few other teams can.

I'm fascinated to see how Indiana looks against Bama in the trenches across 4 quarters. They were nasty against OSU in Indy. Styles make fights and this is about as good of matchmaking as it gets.

I said a couple of days ago it’s a toss up game but the more I analyze the more I think it’s a bad matchup for bama

In the rain
Bama can’t run.
Indiana defends the run.

Not sure bama will score 15
Leaning IU now after thinking bama a few days ago

Talk is cheap…We’re into put up or shut up territory - is anyone brave enough to post your (redacted) straight up bets supporting this Alabama squad.

Sure, anything can happen. It’s gonna be a wet, messy field. Indiana has to replace one of their best DL. Blue chip prima donnas versus try hards.
