All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

How about wins and losses? Do those count in your eyes?

You make it sound as if the only evidence being provided is "Rah-rah, boolah-boolah, my team is great!"

How about actual performance on the field? I'm talking about an objective, direct comparison between the SEC and the B1G in postseason games. That's hardly the same thing as "fans' subjective judgements".

Sure, that's relavent but depending upon the results, not necessarily conclusive. If the two conferences meet in 3 bowls but the Big Ten is 2-1, can you really say one is better than the other based on those results?

Yes you can.
Even if they’re 0-3 you can say the SEC is superior!!!!!

I'd say the current situation, 5-0 vs 2-4 in this post season, is starting to look like more than a blip.

As I recall, the B1G was dominant last post season as well.

It's beginning to look like the B1G Just Plays Better Football... to coin a slogan.

But we have the head-to-head matchups to look forward to. Those will be interesting.

I’m not even sure I need to argue the big ten is better: they’re pretty similar to me

I would just like it to be accepted fact that even though Miami is ACC and A&M is SEC…we should still play the game.
And maybe BYU should not have to go 12-1 to be above 10-3 bama….stuff like that.

Hmmmm. But you'd agree, I assume, that 5-0 is clearly better than 2-4 (rather than 'pretty similar').

Yes?
The record is not similar
The conferences are pretty similar, to me.

Mn beating New Mexico and Houston beating LSU without a coach does not mean Vanderbilt loses to Iowa.
They may lose to Iowa…but it has more to do with Vanderbilt and Iowa than it does with conference affiliation

?
They are similar in record.
You know a lot more than 11 games have been played this year right?

Of course.

I'm just trying to understand how the two conferences are similar, as you claim they are.

They obviously are not similar in post season wins and losses. Maybe that's not important, though?

Where do you see the similarities?

Well I don’t really see the post season bowls as a good barometer
Too many variables.
You can take something from it, but I’m not quite sure what.

I see similarities in the leagues in that they both have good teams. Medium teams and below average teams.

And the team conference doesn’t really matter once the ball is kicked off.
I think they leagues are pretty similar quality top to bottom

If Alabama beats Indiana and Georgia wins the national title it wouldn’t mean that the big ten should have gotten fewer teams in and I’d still think BYU,
Miami, and Notre dame should all have been in before Oklahoma and bama

No they are not
At least in the college football media the perception is that it’s:
1) SEC

Distant 2) big ten

Distant 3) anyone else

Thanks. That's the main point.

If they're similar (as you say) or, even more perplexing, if the B1G is actually the better conference (as I maintain) then why are public perceptions so skewed in favor of the SEC?

Because of the ESPN hype. And ESPN carries a lot of weight in college football. Too much.

I don’t disagree and I don’t think the big ten should sign up for an extension of the playoffs unless it goes out to open bid
