All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

(*IF the money works and he agrees to come on terms that Vikings organization and KOC can live with)

I just don't see a possible downside.

If he (Rodgers) gets hurt: then McCarthy goes in. Great
If he plays awesome and we win: Great - McCarthy starts in 2026. Great
Rodgers mentors McCarthy, regardless, getting him ready for 2026. Great

What am I missing??
It would be bad if Rodgers tank is empty, loses the games he plays, is a locker room cancer, stunts JJM's development, and his salary could have been used towards other assets that could help the Vikings win.

I hadn't realized the Rodgers possibility was so close to a reality until I read the Alec Lewis piece in The Athletic this morning; basically saying this all hinges on Kevin O'Connell and whether or not he wants to take on Rodgers.

I get it from the standpoint of, the roster is built to win NOW in Minnesota; if JJM either falls on his face out of the gate or gets hurt, you can't put your season in the hands of someone like Josh Dobbs or name one of the other less-than-inspiring career backups floating around out there.

It would be weird as f*ck though
You sure would think the Vikings have made Rodgers aware of any interest by now, right? Seems odd to me.

He could infect the entire team with Ebola. That's possible! ;)

As far as other assets, the Vikings would've acquired them by now. They moved fast and signed a bunch already, I don't see why they'd be waiting on something else if that player thought the situation at his position in Min and the money we'd offer was what they wanted.

That’s exactly what he would be at this point. His mobility is gone. Sure he can play with his brain but his biggest strength was scrambling/play extension. His arm is nowhere near what it used to be and he will want to audible as he always does. It’s a horrible match for a ton of reasons.

It’s JJ and a guy like Keenuk, wentz, lock, etc in terms of caliber. If it turns out JJ doesn’t have it, you’re drafting next year again. You don’t stunt another year of a rookie deal for a half broken Rodgers

The team is qb proof right now and you don’t need JJ to be a hero. He just needs to hit the things when they’re there and that’s EXACTLY what KOC is your coach to do and has done with the likes of Darnold, Mullens, and the passtronaut in the past

It would be...interesting, to say the least.

Personally, I don't think Rodgers has had a decent season since his second to last with Green Bay. That's more than 3 years ago, even before the torn Achilles.

I don't see why it would be any weirder than 2009 with Favre.

Except this time, we WIN the damn thing!

Let'sgooooooo!!!
2009 Favre helped get the Vikings a play shy of the Super Bowl.

2010 Favre helped get the Head Coach canned mid-season.

Which version of 2025 Rodgers more resemble? Of course part of the equation is whether or not JJM is any better than T Jackson.

Are you excited because he might come here or because the Vikings might be the reason he retires? 😉

If it happens, someone needs to perform a welfare check on Spaulding.
I guess I mistook that for the vomit emoji. The opposite of excited.

Ok. Cross RB off the list for our first rounder. Will be either dl or cb. Good!

Not sure which way I'd rather go. My first instinct is keep building up the trenches and go dl, but Rogers/Blackmon would probly not be considered a strength as cb2 at this point as well.

How are we able to keep adding good players to our roster like this? I know we had cap space but this is getting ridiculous. In a good way. 🙂

Still, at some point bills come due. I get that the salary cap goes up every year but seems like we are going nuts here compared to other teams. Have to wonder if we are taking on long term pain for short term gain?

Also, it seems like we have a very serious team. Weakness may be cornerback? May be run defense? Everything else seems squared away.

Now Vikes are giving the keys to a 22 year old with zero experience. Vikes roster has a lot of older veterans, will be quite the ask for this 22 yr old to take the reins.

How much does Rodgers have left in the tank? That is the question.

Zero We do not want anywhere near Minnesota period. it JJ time.

Honest question. Do you say zero because you think Rodgers literally is too old, has lost his skills, and now is a bad qb. Or do you say zero because you don't like him.

I see one Twin cities sports personality said today that if Rodgers signs with Vikes, he will hope Vikes don't win the Super Bowl. That is some pretty strong hate.

We do not want Aaron Rodgers and the Vikings have no interested in bringing in Aaron Rodgers. he a cancer and a locker room cancer.

Didnt answer my question. Well, actually you did I suppose.

Guess I will be good with whatever KOC and Kwesi arrive at with this decision.
My guess is they go with JJ. Either way an exciting time to be a purple fan.

Jameis Winston should be the back-up. Before 2024, Sam Darnold had a career QB rating of 78.3. KOC elevated him to 102. Jameis has a career rating of 86.8. The one year he got significant playing time with a good offensive coach (Sean Peyton in 2022) he had a rating 102.8.

I read a bunch of posts from niner fans regarding the Mason trade
To sum up - they don't like it.

All of that can be true.

I’d like jameis. He’s maybe a bit too risky with the ball for koc though

He’s an average QB at this point in his career. He’s not very well liked and is a big distraction. If the team had a 1 year window, then it maybe makes sense. But they’re set up to be very good for awhile. The top free agents next year are Van Ginkel, Oliver and Metellus (Smith likely to retire). Everyone else is easily replaceable.

I’d rather go with the guy they drafted to be the franchise QB.

Yeah. Hate to keep giving up draft picks. But have to feel really good about this trade I would think.
Great trade, IMO...completely different type of RB than Jones and it only cost us 27 spots in the Draft (#160 for #187).

KAM is just smoking another FA/Trade market.

I agree that JJ will likely and rightly be our QB.
But if the Vikes do bring in Rodgers, I certainly have enuf respect for KOC and Kwesi to feel good about that direction as well.

He's no longer mobile, his arm strength has abated and throws a ton of his passes off his back foot due to his injuries. He'll also have our entire OL sitting in a sweat shack in Nepal smoking peyote for enlightenment.

The media attention would be fun but the guy is just a douche. Maybe Ogee can dig up the Vikings' SB odds with JJM versus Rodgers.

Glad to have you back, too.
