All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Another alarming stat. For whatever reason, the Flores defense just hasn't produced many turnovers really since he's been in Minnesota. This year has been brutal.

I thought the missed Sacks yesterday were just massive. Those are drive-changing plays, and guys just couldn't wrap up Williams.

The Bears are first in Turnovers, that covers a lot of shortcomings and helps explain their 7-3 record.

Unless we lose out, no chance. He’ll go first and unless we lose out, we aren’t getting there and even then still might not
We were 4-4 two weeks ago and drafting at pick 15

We lose 2 in a row and have only moved up two spots to number 13.

There are so many crap football teams that even when you lose, you don't gain much in drafting.

Agree, not pinning all 3 Home losses on JJM.

Even yesterday, while the Defense ultimately only gave up 19 pts (credit the unit for keeping them in the game) there were issues yesterday. Especially with the ability to tackle. Zero takeaways as well, which you have hit on in other posts.
The loss yesterday was almost entirely the offense and the QB, but we gave up a 3rd and 12 and 3rd and 14.

On one of those, Metellus and Harry had no interest in tackling the guy short. We are so weak at safety.

I would put it at more 60% Offense and 40% Defense as far as responsibility.

Defense was really bailed out by the FG the Bears missed.

Holy shit. I had to check, you are correct. Bears are #1 in TO margin, by a fair amount actually.

The Vikings are 31st.

Checking AI, the Vikings Defense has caused 1 TO (vs Detroit) since Week 3 vs Cincy.

Is that right?!? That's really hard to accomplish.

Uffda.

I don't know. Williams looked a little rattled. If we score at all, I think we could have taken over. I'd go 80-20

It's almost beyond belief.

Sometimes I wonder about Flores risks and aggressiveness, but then I wonder if he isn't covering for a total lack of talent.

To Blow your minds some more, we’re tied for second in forced fumbles with 11
(See link below); we came into the Bears game tied for first.

The only reason I know these arcane turnover stats, is that PA, repeats them ad nauseam on The Fan. The lack of interceptions is mind boggling - we’re tied for last with 3 and the Bears are first with 15🤦‍♂️.

If Vikes finish last in the North, these teams will likely be on their 2026 schedule:

NYJets
Miami
Tennessee
New Orleans
Atlanta
Carolina
Arizona
NY Giants
Brilliant long-term play.

What if it becomes very apparent the rest of the season that we will need to spend a FRP on yet another QB next April?
That won't happen. Either he shows enough to be the clear #1 next season or you make him the 2026 version of Anthony Richardson and bring in Mac Jones or someone like that to compete with him.

Sadly, this is the reality of our QB predicament and why the Vikings will remain a treadmill team in the NFL. Never good enough to be a true Super Bowl contender and never bad enough to be in a position to draft a potential difference maker.

It's understandable that a young QB needs time to adjust to the speed and talent of the NFL while also learning to read defenses at this level. It's the most demanding position in all of sports IMO.

However, missing wide open receivers, air-mailing guys by five (5) yards and turning the ball over at a high rate is NOT understandable for someone our FO deemed as a potential franchise QB.

Early returns indicate we reached yet again for a guy no better than a 2nd Round prospect who wasn't asked to show much in college. Apparently, KAM made a very aggressive offer to NE to grab Maye and deserves credit for that. Then he panicked.

Why, we have Brosmer!

I still think Max will end up as a better NFL QB than JJ.

The two 4th quarters against Chicago were great. If they can get some semblance of consistency out of him, all is not lost. I don't agree it was a panic move. KOC signed off on it. Penix was a bigger reach.

The reason to play Brosmer is to determine if he can be QB2 in 2026. I wish they'd played him instead of Wentz. But you can't justify taking starts from McCarthy now. Brosmer will only play if JJ gets hurt.

We identified two (2) QB prospects in that Draft (Daniels & Maye) and according to a ton of sources, KAM made legitimate, aggressive offers to get both of them. I salute that.

Then we settled out of desperation for a QB. There is zero chance JJM was worthy of being selected as the #10 overall pick or anywhere close to it.

It's just my opinion based on minimal returns. I'll gladly come back and eat a dozen crows if he proves me wrong. I'm still rooting for him to do well.

In hindsight, I wish they would have coughed up the other first round pick for Maye.

I actually think JJ will dig deep this week and play well at Lambeau Sunday and give us a chance 🤞

I don't know if JJM is going to pan out or not, I'm still hopeful. But one thing to remember is ever since they drafted JJM, I know they have been working on his footwork and mechanics (I forget what it was specifically?) and the occasional reverting back to old habits could certainly be the cause for some of the occasional errant throws.

I know they have worked tirelessly on his ability to "layer" the ball to different levels because he tends to be a strictly fastball thrower, or at least he was. It will probably be a work in progress in at least that respect through most of this season, at a minimum

Level headed optimism is our friend for the foreseeable future.

I don't dispute that they'd have rather had Daniels or Maye. But calling it a panic move would imply that if the Vikings hadn't taken him, no one else would have and he'd have gone in the 2nd round. I don't believe that. There were rumors that the Giants might take him at 6, and it's very possible the Broncos would have if the Vikings hadn't, no matter what Sean Peyton says, or the Raiders at 13 etc.

Ouch. I never understood the Falcons mindless GM making this pick and I never will

Talk about a double kick in the balls for Atlanta.

I faded the Falcons this year, taking a betting position on them winning Under 7.5 wins. Not there yet, but I like my chances.
