All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Happy birthday to one of the most consequential players in Twins history, Mike Rantz (Mounds View '79).

Front office executive Jim Rantz was down in Illinois watching his son Mike play in a collegiate summer league when he "discovered" Kirby Puckett playing for the other team.

Clearly on purpose in my opinion. You don’t react like that if it was an accident.

I did that in a JV game.

I threw gas past this kid and the catcher called the deuce, I shock him off and he did it again, shock him off, etc….after about a Hal minute of the ump, says stop messing around or he’s gonna start calling balls.

He calls the deuce again and I nodded and then threw it as hard as I could / he was not amused as the kid got a piece of it and it scared the crap out of of him.

He ran to the mound and started yelling at me, I yelled back naturally and then the shoving started, until my coach came and broke it up.

JENKINS HEATING UP

Twins No. 1 prospect Walker Jenkins (No. 14 overall) started slowly when he was promoted to Triple-A, but it seems that he’s beginning to get a feel for the level. After a 1-for-20 stretch to begin his career at the Minors’ highest level, Jenkins went 3-for-5 with a triple on Tuesday. He followed that up with a double, a walk, and an RBI on Wednesday. Jenkins, 20, has a combined .289/.414/.455 slash line across four levels (including rehab assignments) this year.

Rosario relishing success with Wind Surge

WICHITA, Kan. -- Twins outfield prospect Kala’i Rosario is having the time of his life, setting records and winning ballgames.

The right-handed slugger is posting career-best numbers at the plate while playing for a team in a playoff race, and he’s loving every minute of it. And now he’s in his team’s history book.

Rosario’s 25th home run of the year, on Tuesday night against Tulsa, set a new franchise record for the Double-A Wichita Wind Surge. That only goes back to the 2021 season, but a record is a record. And 25 homers -- not to mention 25 steals -- in 119 games is a heck of a year regardless of history.

“Super exciting,” Rosario said. “The baseball we’re playing right now is kind of a cherry on top, but we’ll take it one day at a time and just come to work every day. We’re all putting in the work. This is some exciting baseball.”

A fifth-round Draft pick in 2020 out of a Hawaii high school, Rosario hit for the cycle in June. And since the beginning of August he’s taken it to another level. He’s slugging .727 since Aug. 1, with 12 homers in 28 games. For the year, he leads the Texas League in homers, walks, total bases, and extra-base hits.

Rosario, 23, isn’t just producing power. He’s refined his approach at the plate, significantly improving his strikeout and walk rates from what was a challenging and injury-hampered 2024 season. He’s racked up 26 doubles, 81 RBIs, and 85 runs to go along with those 25 homers and 25 steals.

Those two things -- working on controlling the strike zone and producing big numbers -- are not unrelated.

“Playing every day, seeing more pitches, and for me it’s being a smarter and smarter hitter,” he said. “These pitchers are good. I’m realizing how they pitch me, what they’re going to throw me in certain counts. It just makes the game a lot easier for me because I feel like when I go up there with a plan, it makes it a lot easier because I can just go up there, do my thing, just relax. I just have fun up there when I feel like I’m in control.”

He's also working hard on being process-oriented, worrying more about his swing decisions than the results. That can be a tough line to walk in a results-based game.

“It makes it a lot easier when you’ve got a good group of guys around you,” he said. “Baseball’s a team sport. It’s not all about yourself. I was talking to some of the guys going into this week, and I said the way we’re going to win is, we’re going to get a good pitch to hit. And if they don’t give you anything, take your walk. Give it to the next guy. Let the next guy get the big hit.”

And all of that has helped put Wichita in a postseason chase. The Wind Surge is currently one game out of a playoff spot in the Texas League North Division, and that’s put a spring in the step of everyone in the clubhouse.

“We’re excited to be here,” Rosario said. “Getting our work done. We all kind of have the picture in our head, take it one game at a time and we can have some fun. Everybody wants to make the playoffs. I’m pretty sure it’s on everybody’s minds, as it should be. I’m excited to take this and make it to the playoffs.”

The seats at Target Field are speaking volumes this season-and they're not saying much. With the Minnesota Twins nearing a potential sweep at the hands of the White Sox, the bigger story might be what’s happening, or rather not happening, in the stands. The Twins are staring down the barrel of their lowest full-season attendance since Target Field opened in 2010, and the numbers are tough to ignore.

The dozens of fans at Target Field tonight are missing an exciting contest.

Gasper who replaced Jeffers (not sure what happened) drove in the go ahead runs for now. Wallner hit yet another solo HR.

The beat goes on.

Also reported, Lopez will be on the bump tomorrow in KC. 6-man rotation, for the time being.

Newsflash, the bullpen coughed up a 7-4 lead in the 7th on the way to a 11-8 defeat. The first 4 game sweep ever by the White Sox in Minnesota.

Also, the reason Jeffers left the game was due to concussion symptoms after taking 2 foul balls off the mask/head.

Uffda.

When it rains it pours. This season can’t get over soon enough

I commend the Saints for standing in solidarity with the big league team by dropping their last 6 in a row. One of those games Rojas, the lefty starter they got from the Jays in the Varland trade, gave up 7 runs on 7 hits while walking two before being pulled after recording one out.

So not only did they gut the big league club, but if you look at how all of the new guys they brought in are doing, it's not good collectively. Bradley has been borderline OK. Everyone else that's played above the AA level has been mediocre to bad.

They should bring back the cardboard cutouts from the Covid year.

Can’t really fathom looking down the bench for a pinch hitter and calling upon Mickey Gasper, but what do I know?

If Angel Reese doesn’t think much of her teammates now, imagine if she played with this current collection of Twins players.

The frustration in Minnesota is hitting a breaking point-and fans aren’t hiding it. A recent poll of nearly 6,000 Twins fans returned a staggering result: 98.5% want the Pohlad family to sell the team. That’s not just a majority-it’s a resounding message from a fan base that feels like it’s been left behind.
