All Things 2024 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

This is exactly what the Vikings are gonna do.

By that you mean draft a QB in the first round and start them game 1 next year? If so, I agree.

I think it's very likely the Vikings QB next season is either Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, or JJ McCarthy.

And despite these decent numbers, the Broncos were willing to deal with an 85 million dead cap just to get rid of him.

That tells you all you need to know. 'Mr Unlimited' only cares about himself and is a complete locker room cancer.
I'm not sure how much of a cancer he is, but he's not worth anything close to his contract so they're biting the bullet instead of kicking the can. I'm not really advocating for him, but as a one-year bridge QB for $5-10 million I'd rather have Russ than Tannehill or whoever. I expect him to go to Pittsburgh or Vegas though.

I don't want McCarthy at 11 and my opinion is quite biased. I really wish that he played in a system in college that pushed the ball down the field. Not being able to see that is the basis of my concerns.

I'd be very excited to land Daniels and he has just as many concerns as JJ. Go figure.

Their report is "fake".
Of course it wasn't.

Florio is just reporting what he has been told .... by Kirk's agent. Serves both purposes exactly: does Kirk and his agent's bidding and in return gets huge clicks.

That's how the game is played.

Don't be a child

Daniel’s goes in the Top 5 and some like Riddick, say he has the highest ceiling and throws a similar ball/motion as Stroud.

He’s only ~210lbs, that is the only drawback I’m seeing/hearing.

You only have to pay him the veteran minimum as the $39M is guaranteed by Denver and anything paid by another team is simply deducted from that amount.

It will be an ugly year for Broncos fans. Jared Stidham fever.

Payton gave him a two year contract last year and is confident he can find a QB and make him the next Brees in the draft.

Confidence is not an issue for Sean.

McCarthy will go higher than 11. The Vikings will have to trade up to get whichever of those QBs they are targeting.

McCarthy played in a pro style system in college. He averaged more yards per completion than Maye and Penix Jr.

From the following article in The Athletic and the section below was addressing the changes with the new hires: Josh McCown and Chris O’Hara.

https://theathletic.com/5311797/202...free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_articleVikings at the NFL Scouting Combine: What we’re hearing about their offseason plans

Hiring McCown as quarterbacks coach is a multifaceted move

In 2015, Josh McCown first met Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell on a recruiting visit to Cleveland. O’Connell had been hired as the team’s quarterbacks coach, and McCown, then a 35-year-old journeyman QB, was looking for a new NFLteam. McCown was skeptical, but ten minutes into their conversation, O’Connell was scribbling on the whiteboard and they were jelling.

“So much of recruiting is wining and dining,” McCown told me in 2022, “and all that is well and good. But we were going to do football. I was encouraged because even though Kevin was a younger guy, I knew that I was going to get better being around this dude. This guy is sharp.”

O’Connell felt similarly. McCown landed with the Cleveland Browns, and their relationship strengthened. Trust is partly why O’Connell hired McCown as the Vikings’ new quarterbacks coach. The hiring takes some of the load off O’Connell’s back.

It also shifts former quarterbacks coach Chris O’Hara into a pass-game specialist role, where O’Hara will prioritize game planning and third-down preparation. McCown’s presence is also useful because he can relate to veterans and has experience working with highly touted draftees (Sam Darnold, Jalen Hurts, Bryce Young, etc.). Another facet to consider: McCown coached North Carolina’s Drake Maye, whom the Vikings adore.

Was playing at offensive player of the year level before injury.
That wasn't my question.

Hunter was putting up massive numbers and did little to win games.

So I want to know if that's true of Cousins.

[Vikings Owner/Chairman] Zygi Wilf [and Owner/President Mark Wilf rank] second among all club owners and ownership groups, which shows how much confidence players have in his willingness to create a workplace that, in many areas, sets the standard across the NFL.

Choke on it :)
That's great, but bottom line is the trophy case is empty since the Wilfs arrived nearly 2 decades ago, which is all that matters to me.

😥

Why do we need a bridge QB? When has that worked out for any team? There's a big difference between that and allowing a QB to sit for a year or two under a HOF QB that has been there for nearly 2 decades like GB has done twice.

If you draft a QB high in the first round, you start them game 1.

Very few true fans (who pay money to actually go to games, whose opinions actually matter) want a "full" rebuild.

That's TV fans with no skin in the game.
The Wilfs turned a lot of fans into TV only with their cash grab extortion of Seat Licenses.

Their football palace looks great in HD.

If they're ready to start week 1 great. But you can't assume it and roll with Nick Mullens as your backup. Bridge /veteran backup. Not sure it's worth nitpicking the distinction.

Yet they sell out every game in a slightly larger stadium than the metrodome. And it's considered one of the best atmospheres in the NFL on Sunday's.

Standard MO for all new NFL stadiums.

There’s a giant list of folks who want in and have the cash, if you can’t afford it. Welcome to the NFL.

Has nothing to do with Wilfs specifically

They also sellout every game so I'm not sure how true your statement can be.

And the Vikings multiple games behind Detroit in the standings.
Would’ve won every single game that the backups F’ed up.

Guaranteed wins over Bengals, Broncos, and Bears.

I believe would’ve been tied going into the final three.

Defense collapsed, but was probably still better than 2022’s. Who knows

You can’t be offensive player of the year and not.

DEN at 12 will also be trying to move up if I had a guess. I'd say odds are we end up with McCarthy and I hope my gut feelings are dead wrong if that happens.

Flores staying means he gets bigtime sway in who is taken.

Defense deserves to be taken first. Was true last year too, can’t be ignored this year.
