All Things 2024 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

That Correa play to end the game is a perfect summation of the season. Your most expensive player on the roster with bad feet or foot or ankle could have been safe had he been running the whole time. Of course the team was down by 2 with 2 outs so why run hard.

Starting with the blown game against Texas, the Twins have gone 12-24 in their last 36. If they had just played even .500 ball over that span, they'd currently be tied with Baltimore for the top wild card spot.

Judd Zulgad is officially on the Fire Rocco bandwagon.

quote:

Baldelli, whether taking orders from Falvey and his minions or just lacking a feel for in-game moves, managed the pitching staff into maddening losses and played matchups as if he was handling a Strat-O-Matic team and not one made up of humans.

but of course, he also blames Pohlad and Falvey. his point is that the Twins have to make a significant move to show the fan base that they're paying attention, and Baldelli is the easiest move to make.

Happy for you, but still hope the flame out in the playoffs.
11th division title in 12 years. The one-off year saw them finish 1 game behind. Pretty incredible considering they are in a tough division every year.

Yes....I know they only won one W.S., but they did make three and were 100% screwed out of one by the cheating Asstros.

What a pathetic effort. Atlanta helped them out, gave them life, and they continued to not show any sort of fire as they got shutdown by Cade Povich (who Falvey traded as a throw in for Jorge Lopez). Would be a fitting end to the Falvine/Baldummy era, but since ownership doesn't give a damn, we'll get ti watch this clown show at least one more season.
Now does Correa force his way out this offseason, or next?

How's Correa going to force his way out? No one wants that contract.

The Atlanta Braves from the Maddox era🥳

You’re not incensed? Maudlin? Depressed?

If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying😉

Kirby Puckett was hit in the face by a Dennis Martinez fastball on this date in 1995, shattering his upper jaw.

It wound up being Puck's final regular season plate appearance.

Mini-championship at that (Covid pseudo-season). But agreed, Houston stole one from LA.

OK - file this one under "rumors and speculation."

but FWIW, was listening to a podcast and Reusse said he had heard rumblings about Dave St. Peter getting moved to some other role in the organization - with Falvey taking over as Team President.

that doesn't seem to make sense. Falvey is supposed to be the personnel guy, and this would move him to a non-personnel role. But Reusse knows a lot of people and I don't think he would throw something like that out there if he hadn't heard something to back it up.

Reusse also threw out the possibility that Rocco might not want to return - because supposedly he is getting tired of dealing with meddling by the front office and analytics crew. Reusse has also said that Wes Johnson left as Pitching coach for the same reason - got tired of front office people trying to tell him how to do his job.

Falvey and his spreadsheet minions need to go. Maybe it's time for Dave St. Peter to retire too, but Falvey as his replacement makes no sense.

There's also a trickle down effect when Buxton is not available, using Martin, Margot or Castro in CF instead of other spots.

He's at 90 games played with 82 in CF. It seemed like he would zoom past the 2nd most GP for him (92) solidly into triple figures, but getting to the 100 mark has been an obstacle.
Buxton did hit the 100 game marker, finishing with 102, 94 in CF. Both were 2nd most ever for him and his best since 2017.

More than I would have guessed pre-season. Probably going to be unlikely he reaches those heights again now that he is past 30, though the record while he was down (with Correa for most of it) illustrates how key he is to the Twins success.
