All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

This was about as much of stress free game as can be in the NFL. I thought it was over when the Vikes stopped them on 4th & 1 on the Bears first drive.

2 score game after their 1st TD throughout the rest of the contest.
Yeah I just got exasperated when we gave them some hope with the failed attempt on 4th down

Not sure tonight's version of the Vikes would do well against the top nfc teams.
Excellent article, as usual from Alec Lewis, who explains how Chicago played a different defensive scheme from the first game, and how the Vikings adapted by running more in the second half.

Sometimes you gottta be gritty, instead of doing the Gritty.

As many of you know by now, I absolutely love The Athletic.

If you’re around six dimes, like me, then you might remember The Sporting News; while SI and Sport, were great/good, in their own right respectively, TSN offered deeper insights just like The Athletic does, who is having an exciting holiday sale now.

$.25 a week for a year; billed as $1 every 4 weeks. After the year is over, it goes to $2 a week.

I’ve never had an issue with billing from them and signed up on a similar program previously. I’m not affiliated with them, just know that’s the best in-depth sports coverage around.

Darnold was not sharp. he missed a lot of throws. Jefferson dropped a cinch touchdown throw.

and the Vikings still won.

when a team does not play well and still wins, you take it. Sure, they may have played down to the opposition, but that happens at every level of sports.

Now, if O'Neill is out for any length of time, that is a concern, because Quesenberry is not a starting-caliber OT.

Also loved B Flo’s new wrinkle with the 5 edge rushing package, I think that it will be fun to see how that works against Detroit.

As someone who lost by one point in my FF playoffs and had Will Reichard as my kicker, I agree, they should have taken the 3.

I lost two receiving prop bets last night in the other game by 0.5 yards; Kyle Pitts with 28 yds (28.5 yds was the O/U) and Jakobi Myers finished with 59 yds (O/U was 59.5 yds). Talk about a kick in the balls.

I'll cut Darnold some slack last night; the Vikings OL is becoming more and more concerning and the Bears defense isn't that shitty. Very disappointed lately in the OT Robinson they picked up from the Jags. He's not exactly making himself a lot of money for that next contract next spring. He can still get his shit together down the stretch though.

The Athletic has some good writers, and Alec Lewis is to me easily the best Vikings beat writer you can find. The Athletic has fallen off in quality quite a bit in recent years, it's certainly taken a dive since being taken over by the NY Times (shocker).

A lot of good writers have jumped ship since NYT took over. What I've noticed as I look at other articles, it can just really be hit or miss depending on the team you follow. Some teams have absolute shit for a writer there, some teams (like the Vikings) have an exceptional one.

As long as they have a few writers I want to read, it's worth giving the trial money to the NY Times but if the quality keeps taking a dive, it won't be much longer. It just won't be worth it, there are too many other options out there to find in other forms and platforms.

FWIW - I also enjoy their coverage of the Wolves, Twins and CFB. Don’t know about the Wild, as I only follow the NHL in the playoffs.

If I've learned anything in these crazy, COVID/post-COVID, world turned upside down days it's this--never, ever count on Kyle Pitts to come through for you.

O'Neill came back in a second time, so I assume he's OK.

Absolutely, 100%; and yet I looked at the Raiders being TERRIBLE against TE's all season long, and I figured Kirko would feed him the ball. Shit, I was so stupid I also had small bets on Pitts going over 50 yards, and even over 75 yds against that Raiders defense. SMH...

* In just three (3) seasons, KOC joined Bud Grant as the only Vikings coaches to have two (2) 12-win seasons.

* With another win, KOC will be the only coach in franchise history with two (2) 13-win seasons.

KOC's contract expires after the 2025 season.

Don't we lose on common opponents?

Edit: Actually Vikings win that tie-breaker at the moment thanks to Philly losing to ATL.
We lost to the Rams
Common opponents (Packers, Giants, Rams & Falcons) are a wash and would be at the end of the season given that each has a game remaining against their own intra-division team on that list (if both win out).

Next on the list would be SOS. Vikings have an advantage there (currently).

Interesting notes regarding the Vikes in NFL Live

18 point win last night, was the largest for us in the division since 2018

Now at 14 consecutive games with a turnover, longest streak since 2000-2001

Cashman would have taken that to the house if Van Ginkle could have thrown a single block.
Looked like all Van Ginkle had to do was just get in the way of the oncoming Bear and Cashman would have been sprung to the End Zone.

Badger >>> Gopher beef???

Ah. Missed the Rams when looking at the Eagles schedule.

Badgers are allergic to easy TD's. Ask Jonathon Taylor.

ESPN just said the Vikes have the hardest remaining schedule.

@ Seattle (T1st-NFC West), Green Bay (#5 Seed) & @ Detroit (#1 seed currently) will be a stiff test for the Purple.

Recent history, have not done well against either road opponent and the Packers are always a battle.

Should be fun.
