All Things 2024-25 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Ant getting hit again all night with many fouls not called.

They had to go to replay to see a flagrant 1 while he was in midair.

I'm pretty much on Ant's side for having this many technicals. it's beyond ridiculous. I'd call it a conspiracy.

He's not going to get calls when he acts the way he does.

As everybody knows, I'm far less impressed with the job Tim Connelly has done than most people on this board. His reputation exceeds his performance, IMO.

However....

Drafting Jaylen Clark in the second round is a 10 out of 10. Clark is as boring as Ant is exciting. But all he does is everything the right way. A lot of players get reps as defensive stoppers but it's a kinda, sorta thing. I watched Clark shut down Booker, Beal and then Durant last night. He doesn't know he's not supposed to do that. He's got some offense too. Great find! Now Finch has to find him real minutes with the full squad which means Conley has to go down to 10-12 minutes a game. (I know Clark is not a pg but their guards are pretty interchangeable.)

Fantastic game last night, tons of Wolves fans in attendance and we played really well all game.

7 in a row vs Phoenix is amazing.

Howl Wolves!!

You can scream "foul" all you want, and they're never going to give you a technical. But when you yell, "Foul, mother-@#*#$#!", that's the magic word. Whether it's a lack of maturity, bad habit, whatever, he's got to figure out how to stop that.

I got ripped on a different board for saying how excited I was when they drafted him. Now we are seeing why he was the best defensive player in college. Hopefully they can get him signed for more than a two year deal at some point.

So when he's in midair, gets pushed, and could have ended his season......since he bitches at the refs they let it go.

Well, then it might as well be all star wrestling.

He made another shot one handed because Booker had ahold of his other arm.

It's just flipping ridiculous.

Both posts (Jam and yours) explain why NBA refs are the worst by a long shot.

This fairly new habit of holding his arms out wide like he's going to be crucified when he doesn't get a call also doesn't help.

I think the only thing that is going to impact his behavior is his teammates telling him to knock it off.

MLB umps are the worst. Incredibly thin skinned.

its that Atlanta in him. He talks that way all the time. watch starting 5. It's wild.

He probably loses calls too, though I don't follow his game closely enough to know.
he's shot between 7-10 FTs a game every year. For whatever reason, the NBA calls a lot more of the fouls on guys who stay lower to the floor and don't dunk a ton aside from giannis (though giannis gets smacked constantly because he's a mediocre FT shooter). Guys like ant and lebron get hacked and hit constantly but no doubt Ant talking as much as he does costs him calls even if the refs don't want to admit it

I did watch it. Great series! I don't think it's the Atlanta in him. He is a smart guy who does not speak the language of white America. However, neither does most of the league. On the floor that's how everybody talks. It's about talking shit directly at the refs and showing them up. It's about immaturity, not language.

was more just meaning how he speaks and was a bit tongue in cheek.

The on the court speaking to the refs constantly, I agree that seems more immaturity. Last game he was overall much more "contained" though he still made some rather demonstrative gestures which you can debate if warranted or not (to me, it's not going to buy you any favors to he should stop, though I get it given Booker is holding his arm for about 2-3 seconds and Beal 2 hand shoved him while he's trying to dunk it). Hopefully he cleans it up as I think it will get him more calls in the long run and buy him the right to talk more later in his career (such as how things are for Lebron now who is complaining all game and talking to the refs, but almost never gets technicals).

It is also a Wolves problem. We get a ton of techs between Ant, Rudy, Naz, and Jalen.

Belicheck also talked about how hidden yardage caused losses: penalties and piss poor special team coverage (I think).

You cannot give free points away and be taken seriously as a contender, just a pretender and Ant needs to lead, in a good way, by example.

Curry hits an unbelievable 3 at the end of the 1st half against Brooklyn tonight. When he got the ball I'm thinking, "why even shoot it?'. Unreal.

In the first 321 regular season games of Jaden McDaniels career, he had 17 games of 20+ points. In his last 27 regular season games he has 10.

He has so much better spacing at the 4 next to Reid than Gobert. In the past, they just send him to the corner to spot up for a 3. His rebounding has also increased along with his involvement in the offense.

The Heat are a well-coached, smart team. The Wolves have too many irresponsible players. Got lucky. Easily could have lost that.

Finch put on a classic display on how not to coach at the end. Every single time on offense, he has the human turnover (Randle) handle the ball. Besides the offensive rebound, the whole team did everything wrong and still hung on.

Very sloppy win. Much better than a well played loss.

I've been peeking ahead at the schedule and the warriors' schedule over the next couple of weeks is just about as soft as the wolves' schedule. I'm not assuming the wolves are going to move into the top six. Those four or five "scheduled wins" that they screwed up earlier in the season are going to chomp them. Maybe Houston slides.

Golden State has the 12th hardest remaining schedule. The Wolves is 27th and easiest in the West.

True. However, the Warriors play at home for 11 of their remaining 17 games at home. Most of their tougher opponents are at Chase.
