All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

Gonzaga v Baylor late tonight for a good opening game.

It will also be interesting to see how Ohio St fairs against Texas.

Good game between Santa Clara and Saint Louis this afternoon. STL hired Indiana State's HC and he brought over a few of his best players from that team (Avila and Swope). Santa Clara just had too many playmakers. Athletic team that should be top three in the WCC this year.

Temple vs. Sacred Heart just started on ESPN+ Jamal Mashburn Jr. is playing on Temple now.

Yeah, I was pretty impressed with Santa Clara. Seems like they always have a pro on their team. Think Bal has an opportunity to be their next one.

Ihnen had a fairly undistinguished first game with Liberty. He started but had 4 points (1 of 5 shooting and 2 free throws), 4 rebounds, and 4 fouls. Liberty had 4 players in double figures though and beat Valpo by 20.

Payne starting for Texas A&M and had 4 points, 3 rebounds, and a block in the first four minutes of the game. He also has 3 turnovers.

Avila got hurt, leg injury

8 pts 5 boards at the half in a 29-29 game

oops you beat me to it... :)

UCF takes the lead 62-61 with less than a minute remaining. And now going to the line for FTs.

Wow. TAMU had three shots to tie the game and missed them all. UCF takes down Payne's new squad.

Future opponent, Wichita State had a solid W on the road at Western Kentucky. I saw that WKU was projected to finish 2nd in the CUSA this year (tourney team last year).

Wichita shot the 3-ball well and had some bruisers, but they lacked poise. They struggled with a 1/3/1 press and shot free throws like our beloved Gophers down the stretch.

I guess TNT having regular season games is new since they're losing the NBA? Will TBS/TruTV as well?

Zeke Mayo, transfer from SODAK State, looked really good last night for the Jayhawks. As did their new big man Flory Bidunga, spotting Dickinson. They are as deep as the Gopher, going 10 players or more during the game. Friday night @ the PHOG vs the Tar Heels.

No Hawkins for Texas Tech. Hurt?
Thought I might have spotted him on the bench in street clothes.

Carrington started for Tulsa yesterday. 10 points and 7 rebounds in 25 minutes of action.
Ola-Joseph started for Cal and played 9 minutes. Picked up 4 fouls and had 4 points, 1 rebound.

Carrington played Northeastern St. I bet no one knows where that is without looking it up

Non-Power 5 Conference wins over Power 5 on Opening Night. We had 3:

American: Memphis over Missouri
ASUN: North Florida over South Carolina
WCC (1): Gonzaga over Baylor

Rough night for the SEC. Texas (vs. Ohio State) & Texas A&M (@ UCF) also both lost their Power 5 matchups.

Early read on St. Thomas after seeing 1 game:

The newcomers will contribute a bunch.

Athleticism significantly upgraded, case in points Miles Barnstable and Nolan Minessale.

Barnstable is next D3 to D1 stud.

Ben Oosterbaan will be stat-sheet stuffer.

Ramogi Nyagudi is raw but can see the talent is there. TBD how much he’ll contribute this season.

Ryan Dufault & Ben Nau invaluable tone-setters with their effort. Love watching them compete.

Carter Bjerke will be one of the best stretch-4 3-point shooters in the country. When he’s open, you think it’s going down every time.

Kendall Blue will be at the top of every opponents’ scouting report. Didn’t score much, but Tommies still put up 96.

Drake Dobbs makes it all go at PG. Elite defender & doesn’t turn the ball over.

There will be growing pains, but look out in March.

No Ace Bailey for Rutgers tonight.

Down early 10-5 to Wagner.

Update…and…Rutgers goes on an 11-0 run, but does not impress. They do not look like a top 25 team, but it’s still too early in the season to make too many assumptions.

Nova loses to Columbia. Neptune's seat gets hotter.

There was one more on Wednesday: Columbia beat Villanova 90-80. Things have really turned since the Jay Wright days.

Anyone catch the Creighton v UT-Rio Grande?
I saw the last 8 minutes in replay. Ryan Kallbrenner drops 49 for the Bluejays in a 99 to 86 win that was closer than what the score indicates.
