All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

Dammit. I see this thread at the top of the feed and my hopes soar. Only to get here and find it is a different school with the balls to move on from a bad coach that’s better than ours.
On the other hand a lot of good opportunities for an "elite" former power 5 coach who wasn't given a fair chance to rehabilitate himself and prove us all wrong.

I get he won't say it. He's never shown a reason to believe that he would have the foresight or ability to pull that off. I hope I'm wrong and hopefully it is a good coach. Time will tell.
Other than Coyle moving quickly and stealthily to land Fleck who he had identified as his top choice?

In addition to the not insignificant NIL delta we'd have to address, Wade's a Southern guy and I'm guessing living in the great white North wouldn't be high on his list, especially if he has good P4 offers to stay in Dixie.
I don’t disagree with your analysis but Murray state is not in Dixie

It's a dilemma for sure, but the point again is lost on you. Who the fuck is NC State going to get? They're in the same position.
Maybe they have a booster? Or they'll end up hiring a UNC directional coach again.

There are scores of programs like NC State and Minnesota. Some will figure out a way, and some won't. Regardless of whether Keatts should have been fired, the same principle applies everywhere: the solution to the dilemma isn't to retain an inferior coach. How many goddamn millstones do you need around your neck?

DeVries would take that job, I think. Let's see if they consider him.

One millstone is enough.

I don't know NC State's financial position but I would say they are worse off than us for hiring a new coach because it's a much higher risk job for a candidate.

Keatts was there for 8 years. He had 3 NCAA tournament appearances including the unlikely final four run. He had only two losing seasons.

His predecessor, Mark Gottfried, was there 6 years. He had NCAA tournament appearances in his first four years including two regional semifinals but he had two losing seasons (barely) in his final two years.

Gottfried's predecessor was former NC State star Sydney Lowe (member of the 83 national championship team). He was there five years, had two 20 win seasons but no NCAA tournament appearances.

Lowe's predecessor, Herb Sendek, was there 10 years and took them to the NCAA tournament in each of his final five years but he's was feeling heat because of his poor record against Duke and UNC and his failure to win an ACC championship so he left to coach AZ State.

Obviously, NC State is not easily satisfied.
