All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

Potential IU candidates. . .

Didn’t read the article, so big caveat. My understanding is that Indiana pines for Stevens every time they chase a coach out of town. It also seems like he has never had any interest and justifiably so. I don’t follow the NBA closely but I think an argument can be made that coaching in the NBA is an easier job than college. Constant recruiting, practically no vacation, no contracts to keep players. Grown men versus kids. Stevens might enjoy that along with a salary that likely exceeds Indiana or or any other college team.

Stevens isn't even coaching anymore, and hasn't since 2021. He's currently the Celtics' president of basketball operations and just won a championship. He's not going to be the Hoosiers' coach.

Yeah...you didn't need to tell us you didn't read the article. We quickly deduced that much.

No Johnny Tauer?!?!
It is pretty cool to see how quickly guys like Grant McCasland and Ben McCollum have ascended. You could see it with McCasland at N. Texas. McCollum I wasn't sure (eg. could he make the leap in terms of the type of talent/size required at this level). Texas Tech offense is easy on the eyes, a little like Baylor.

If Micah Shrewsberry isn't happy at Notre Dame, I'd still take him in a heartbeat. Even though he's only in his second year in South Bend, perhaps now is a good time to put a bug in the ear of his agent? Would he listen to an offer from (a Power 2 school) that has been to the Final Four more recently than the Fighting Irish?

Notre Dame and NIL might not matchup as well as at other schools. Irish basketball is a harder job than most Power 5. I’d take him in a heartbeat. NBA style could be attractive to a lot of players. Add some cash to the equation and there are possibilities.

Imagine Ben going off like that. I'm not sure even AI can pull that off.

Interesting.

Though a smaller conference, has some parallels with the Gophers situation. Coach has had a rough go of it, but his team has improved significantly and is playing its best basketball of the season. DU is the one team in the bottom half of the Summit League that I think could surprise one of the top teams in the conference tourney. Dynamics kind of change now.

Immediately or like the Monson situation last year? Sounds like a great way to motivate players for a late season run.
