seems like a good dude to get in early on.....his twitter handle made it clear he views himself as a guard when i see he is called out as a forward.....but in the young AAU season it looks like he has had some good scoring games

Not exactly Gophers news, but the Badgers are making a big push for Gus Yalden (the "GusBus" heavy set kid whose highlights have been all over social media). I can't imagine them taking both Yalden and Kapke, but it probably wouldn't affect their interest in Winter.
Following this class, it's interesting (hopefully encouraging) that the Gophers seemingly don't have any offers out to point guards other than Chatman.

its absolutely bonkers that we dont have any more offers out to point guards.....as of now he certainly seems to have all of his eggs in the Chatman basket....of course Chatman could make this easier and just commit
hes going to continue to blow up this spring and will be wanted by most

Is it bonkers? They have a PG they just got in the portal who has two years left (I know he may not use them both). Seems like they can find another one in the portal if need be. I take it as a sign the staff believes they are in a good place with Chatman more than anything.
maybe bonkers is the wrong word....but to put all your eggs in on a guy that will continue to get better offers then MN and you would think they would be after more then just him...i mean he basically did the same with Holloman this last cycle
we hit with Willis in BJ's 1st year.....Lets hope we hit with Cooper in his 2nd year....but living in the trasnfer portal at a place like this, especially at the PG position is far from ideal

Is there any way to be sure the recruiting sites are accurate with the offers they show us having out? I assume it is reliant on players providing that info but don't really know how they get it. Would be a little surprised if schools were openly supplying a list of offers to recruiting sites but maybe they are.
NONE of the services and NO ONE on here knew anything about Henley even visiting before he committed! Some recruitment flies under the radar.
yes i think his list will grow quite a bit over the spring/summer
very few "offers" are missed by recruiting services...but even Chatman on 247 doesnt show texas as an offer but he has one from them so they dont get them all...
but the Ryan James of the world do a very good job of keeping track of this

I get your point as it's a scary proposition to be that heavily involved and only offering one guy. I think and would bet they are talking to others though.
I strongly disagree with the Holloman comment. We had two other PG's on campus for visits last summer (Pierre and Zeigler). The portal isn't an ideal place to live for PGs, but it isn't the worst place either imo depending on what you need from the position.

They're most likely talking to other PG but they'll be saving spot for chatman wether they offer or not
I agree, having only 1 offer out is a bit scary, but I think this is where the portal helps. Hopefully its Chatman but if he goes elsewhere you dont need to panic and take another freshman PG, you can find a Cooper/Willis guy for a year or 2 and then get back in for a Freitag or some other guy. 15 years ago that wasnt likely an option so you sometimes had to scramble.
We can hope the staff is good enough at reading the room with a recruit to know how good their chances are at getting him to commit/sign. If they are not offering anyone else, they have to be very confident, or they are in on others we don't know. The heavy recruiting of guys other than Tre last year suggests they knew early on it wasn't likely to happen with him. It didn't work out but it was the right decision in recruiting.

Seeing that he picked up offers from Alabama and Texas A&M the day before us. Listed as a #97 on the ESPN Top 100 and most sites see him as either a 3 or 4 star. Looking at highlights he looks to be a solid player, and he averaged 25-7-7 last year in high school. He is a playmaking guard, likes to have the ball in his hands. Something we absolutely could use, especially with the little depth we have in the backcourt
It might grow but do you think better? Imo his offers are right on par with his his potential. He’s not a blue blood type player
I am very excited by the fact that I think in his 1+ years of being the head guy Ben has seemed to get in early on guys. I think that shows a good eye for talent. Sounds like Dilione is going to blow up soon, much the same as little Peja Stojakovic who not a lot where on early but now i see he has a Kentucky offer. The only thing that I don't feel resonates as much today is the "hey you believed in me first" type thing. We could be all in on a guy way early, but if Duke/Kent/AZ/Baylor etc come calling I dont think we have a shot. That has nothing to do with Ben its just kids today, show them the NIL and tv contract and they jump (which by the way i dont blame them for at all!). Hopefully we get a few kids like Henley that sign before they really blow up and can be studs here.

Yes he is. He has length, shoots well, is able to defend, shares the ball and while he can score and take over a game doesn’t need to. He will get significant offers, but many schools do not put out an offer to a kid who they think is committing elsewhere.

Yes, comparable to one of the top 75 players in NBA history. In seriousness, he already had an offer from Louisville, multiple Big Ten teams, and know he has inquiries from historically strong programs. Who knows what he will actually do in college, but he has talent.

at the risk of being simplistic, recruiting is about building relationships.
identify players you want, get in on them early, and keep recruiting them until they say "yes."
the longer Ben Johnson & staff are at MN, the stronger the relationships they will be able to build with recruits.
certainly you are not going to get everyone you want, but at least give yourself a fighting chance.
and then have a back-up plan! or two back-up plans!

I agree and not trying to minimize his talent or potential. I just don’t see him as a lead guard at a top ACC, SEC, Big 12 type school. Big Ten yes along with most PAC 10 schools. Unless he doesn’t wanna play locally I think the Gopher will have a good chance to get him.

Well guess what... Anjay Lee had a Kansas offer too right? Let’s just see how it plays out. My opinion is he’s not that level of player and that’s no knock to the kid. But I’ll stand on that. If he goes higher congratulations to him.
