All Things 2023-2024 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Listening to sports radio here in Phoenix is so fun this week!!! They are going off on their "Big 3" and they can't believe how good McDaniels and Conley are. They agree ANT is on the cusp of being one of the premier faces of the NBA and they think KAT is one of the most overrated "stars" in the league.

They also think if they win Game 3 and this series is far from over.

Howl Wolves!!
I would not be surprised if this comes back to Minneapolis tied at 2. I would not be surprised if the Wolves win two there for the sweep. In short, nothing would surprise me.

One thing or another, though, during the radio broadcast last night, Horton said that teams who win the first two of a series have won that series 93 percent of the time.

Serious question. What are they saying about Gobert?

You can even up that to 94% if you win the first 2 of a 7 game series at home. (Not much, but every little bit counts. It's the playoffs.)

Good question. I forgot to mention this before and I was surprised they brought it up this morning but they said they think the Suns are playing scared of him. They think someone needs to attack him more and go right at him and get under his skin and show them they aren't scared of him. But instead, radio guys here think they are showing him too much respect.

Go Rudy!!

Last week at this time there was great fear of the Suns in this market. A general sense of dread. Post game two there's way too much cockiness amongst the local fans and media. The Suns big three are all going into the HOF. Vogel is a well respected coach. Their fans are just as hungry as us and they will be just as loud. They will figure out a way to at least partially neutralize the Jaden/NAW/Ant/Rudy nearly impenetrable defense. They will also try to goad the hell out of Jaden and Rudy with the goal being to get at least one of them tossed.

It's so much fun to be 2-0. We are so far from four wins. Phoenix is a very talented team.

For good reason, I believe.

So far, this sort of reminds me of the 1981 North Stars, who got DOMINATED by the Bruins in the regular season. Guess who they drew in the first round. The Stars won game 1 in OT and swept the series on their way to the league finals.

The only way Bradley Beal gets into the HOF is to buy a 🎟️. I have never/ever heard anyone utter that before. You may want to reconsider?

It’s okay to Be a Big, Bad 🐺 now and not to fear the ☀️ - it’s time to Howl and Growl.

Started watching Miami at Boston, but gave it up to watch a movie. Just assumed the Celtics would win.
What’s the old saying when you assume?

In these playoffs, it does make you wonder about regular season defense.

Oh man, 23 of 43 on 3’s!!
Fricking unreal!

That "chase the ball and trap it" defense looks awful when the other team hits their 3's. Bet nearly all perimeter players, and some inside guys too, hit 50% plus of their 3's if left alone in a gym.

That's what the Celtics did for Miami last night add in the few 3's they hit when guarded tight and it got the Heat the win.

On the other doesn't make me wonder about regular season defense. We've been told for too long that NBA teams focus on offense then.

No it makes me wonder about the regular season refereeing. Which is why you hear so many teams and players who are used to getting the majority of the calls during the regular season now complaining about the refs and the calls they aren't getting.

As the announcers have been telling us ad nauseam when a call doesn't happen "now this is playoff basketball". Particularly after the color analyst proclaims loudly "That's a foul!" Followed by the call being overturned.

No it makes me wonder about the regular season referring. Which is why you hear so many teams and players who are used to getting the majority of the calls during the regular season now complaining about the refs and the calls they aren't getting.

Ha! The explanations a few times by the refs after a contest of a call was “minimal contact, no effect on the play, etc”.

Fair enough. Beal is merely a three time all star, max player.

Pretty good article here on Gobert. I had no idea.

Good article. Pretty thorough too. Though any article that talks about players disdain for Gobert but doesn't mention his covid news conference where he licked all the microphones and then came down with covid, is incomplete.

Many players at the time including many of his Jazz teammates, were very public with their anger towards Gobert. That isn't gonna go away no matter how much ESPN and the NBA want to bury it. Understandable as it is.

3X AS doesn’t equal HOFer. Size of a contact is not a criterion for HOF voting either.

He’s been a good scorer on shitty teams (Wash). His career average is 21.9.

That’s all I got.

Also seems quite premature to call Devin Whiner Booker a HOFer as well. Quite a stretch on both those guys.

Those shirts fans were wearing during the game if Booker whining were sweet.

I think you probably put up with more player BS as an NBA ref than in any other sport - everyone bitches 247.

Officials have gone to replay 3 times already in the first quarter of the Philadelphia/ Knicks game. Embid has 2 fouls already one of them a flagrant.

Joel also jumped up and stomped his feet when he didn't get a foul he wanted.

Somebody forgot to tell Joel that this is the playoffs not the regular season.

They did mention it--talked about how Donovan Mitchell was outright and vocally pissed at Gobert. It was a short paragraph, but definitely mentioned.

A couple non-Gobert thoughts from the article:
* Solidifies what we already knew-Draymond Green is on the Mount Everest of dickheads. The thought of his presence on the media landscape for the next 20+ years spouting off is depressing to consider. On the other hand, if there's anyone out there who I'd place money on to say something so egregious that they become untouchable, Green's pretty high on the list.

* When the book on all-time dipshits of the NBA is written, Bones Hyland is deserving of a paragraph, if not a full page. The only idiot I'm aware of who wasn't happy playing with Jokic and has taken advantage of being moved along to being an afterthought in the league, but still maintains an air of idiocy firmly seated deep on the bench. Self-awareness is not Bones' strength.

Bradley Beal: PER, career: 18.2; Win Shares, career: 56.1
Mike Conley: PER, career: 17.3; Win Shares, career: 100.5

If Beal's a HOF'er, so is Conley.

(KAT: PER is 23.8, WS: 75; Booker: PER is 18.8, WS: 45.1)

Man would be nice if the Lakers could at least extend that series. Not really looking forward to a well rested Denver team on the road assuming we don't sweep our series

Denver beats the Lakers 112-105. Wonder if Davis and James refused to talk after last night's game? ;)

Two things:

1. D'Angelo Russell scored zero points. Getting rid of him was a great move wasn't it?

2. Micheal Porter, who had a good night, said " “I don’t think anybody besides the media looks at the 11 (straight victories).

Mike? The media has been way too busy telling us what a great match-up this is and how good the Lakers have been playing, to remind us how long it has been since Denver has lost to them.

Yah!!
The Laker talk is about to get canceled.
I wonder who their next coach will be?
