All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

What are the other 'massive whiff's' by Falvey?
To name a few:

2017:

-Trading a good prospect for Jamie Garcia and then bailing on the season 6 days later and trading Garcia for a bust and Zach Littell

2018:

-Lance Lynn

-Logan Morrison

-Fernando Rodney

2019:

-Wasting the best line-up in Twins history by not trading for a starter (or two) at the deadline and having to start Randy Dobnak in the play-offs

-Trading for a reliever with a bad arm instead

2020:

-Homer Baily

2021:

-Letting LaMont Wade and Akil Badoo go in favor of Divin' Jake Cave

-Letting Zach Littell go for no reason

-Matt Shoemaker

-J.A. Happ

-Alex Colome

I can understand the Garcia argument but you're really grasping for straws with the rest of these.

Most of those pick-ups weren't bad at the time. For instance, after Happ was traded last year, he was pretty good for St. Louis. These things could be sign of bad coaching, not necessarily bad moves at the time. Lance Lynn certainly wasn't a bad signing. He's been really good before and afterwards. Again, could be coaching. And it sounds like he hated MN.

By all accounts Lynn was a pouter because he did not land the long term contract he thought he deserved. He pitched down to his salary amount. Also late spring training while he was waiting to sign didn't help either.

When they signed Correa, Lewis hadn't played in 2 years and the Twins was bound for St. Paul for the whole season. Correa got hurt, and Lewis had a great stretch when he came up.

They want both Correa & Lewis in the lineup, so super-utility might be the way to go this season for Lewis. Have Lewis play a lot of positions in the next 2 weeks at St. Paul, then bring him up to play almost every day.

Lewis 2 for 2 with a homer so far in first game back in minors.
In a season where it looks like every twins game is going to mean something, great that one of our best hitters is playing aaa.

I think we should send buxton down to the minors as well - he needs to work on drawing more walks. 🙄
Lewis playing shortstop tonite.

You don't turn #1 picks and potential future stars into MLB utility players when they are 22 and haven't played for 2 years.
Why is ok to have guys like Gordon, Areaz, Sano, Kiriloff, and others get OJT time in the ML? But not Lewis. Lewis is probably a better athlete than those mentioned thus would likely learn the skills quicker. There are lots of opportunities for him to play daily. Play CF when Buxton gets his frequent day off, back-up at SS, 3B or 1B plus DH. He is likely a much better option than what the Twins have going for them currently.

I think it's really important for Lewis to work on defense in the minors. He can play left field so he can learn the intricacies of different outfield dimensions in stadiums that are irrelevant at the major league level.
Then he can move to the infield where he can memorize where he needs to be positioned for shifts for batters, 90% of who he's never going to see in the big leagues.

Not doing anything at the trade deadline in 2019 was the biggest one IMO. I don't expect them to bat 1,000 on free agents, but they have missed quite a bit. I don't think having train wrecks like Fernando Rodney and Colome help ruin two seasons by blowing multiple games early or giving way too many starts to guys like Shoemaker should just be dismissed.

When is the last time I posted about him? Or did you mean to DM this to Rocco? Keeping him over LaMont Wade was ridiculous but it's not Jake Cave's fault.

How touchy
Guess you don’t get free tixs as the one and only member of his fan club 🤷‍♂️

Twins in 1st place in Division - fans are outraged!!

Seriously, I think the Twitter-verse is more up in arms this year than they were last year - when the Twins had a terrible season.

The Twins are in 1st place.
They have a number of promising young position players.
They have some solid pitching prospects IF they can stay healthy.
Kepler has come back to life after two seasons as a zombie.
Arraez is an on-base machine and just a fun player.

Buxton - for all his issues - is one of the most exciting players in the game when he's in the lineup.

oh, and the Twins - the Twins - have Carlos Correa - one of the best players in baseball - as their starting shortstop.

And the Twins are in 1st place in their Division.

Dammit, I'm outraged!!!

Agree that 2019 was an absolute blunder. And then they piggybacked that by whiffing on every decent free agent starting pitcher in 2020. Feeling they had to do "something", they brought in Donaldson. That didn't exactly work out either.

Let the #1 overall pick reach for his potential. We don't need to be so fragile.

If he fails on the merits, would be much easier for him to accept.

I have no doubt he could play multiple positions as we saw in the afl. Next season he will be starting ss.

Ridiculous imo. Also debating is one of the best things about baseball. Lots of different opportunities for that. 🙂
Correa is going to have to pick it up for that to happen

Punto played a long time, and made a lot of money for a guy who was no better than a utility player.

He had no business playing as much as he did.

Rivas was even worse. Guzman was good for a year or two.

In all honesty, those 3 players really hurt the Twins and held them back.

I realize the schedule was hastily thrown together, but 15 consectutive games vs. KC and Detroit?
Geezo Beezo.

Is this the Rivas and Guzman that played 2nd and SS for the Twins team that won division titles and had their own baseball tonight segments that showcased their sweet defensive highlights? Are those the two guys that back for years? Just checking cuz yes those are two great examples of bad decisions of the Twins. Truly brilliant analysis 🧐

Lots of haters in this thread. I’m sure we’d eventually hear how overrated Carew, Harm and Puck were as well
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Guzman was an All Star X2 once as a twink, hit over ,300 one season and lead the league in triples 3 times as a Twin and was a plus fielding SS IMO. He played 11 seasons and had a career average of .271

Houston Jimenez and Denny Hocking are furious you forgot them - let alone our own version of the Gruesome Twosome - Drew & Sal Butera -always special to have 2 light hitting backup catchers in one family- Our very own Manning, Family
