Pagan pitched earlier in the game and they wouldn't have had him if they didn't trade Rogers. So they would have been in the same situation.

I will agree maybe the overall record doesn’t change, but do you no believe have Rodgers in the pen would be better than Pagan. Going forward I would love to have Duran and Rogers in my pen over Pagan. Not to mention it would have save $6million if you decided to go get a reliever during the season if you keep winning.

Otherwise it would be a real special kind of stupid to not play him in the 130-140 game range. Pro franchises just aren't that dumb, with that kind of talent.

I would like to know if this has been the plan all season like they said it was or after he got hurt in Boston. He started the year playing in 7 straight games with a short spring training to get himself ready. That doesn’t seem like something you would do if your plan was to only play 100 games this year.
 

Here’s hoping for a good 12-6 little spurt playing bad teams before the AL East show up again in the form of the Yankees and Tampa.

It is the lefty aspect that puzzles me. Thielbar is the only option in the pen. There's got to be somebody out there on a team already buried in the standings that can help without dealing or paying too much.

Jesse Orosco, John Franco or even Eddie Guardado have anything left in the tank?!?!
 


West Coast Road Trip this week.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I might be going to bed before some of these games are over........

(Back in the day before radio stations were automated, some poor part-timer had to sit at the station and run the commercial breaks for Twins games. On those late-night games out West, that meant being at the station until 12:30am or so to wrap up the post-game show - and if it went extra innings......)

That and the long reliever aspect as they don’t have one. That’s why I hope smeltzer sticks around as he can go 4-5 innings.

I would too but I don't think it's as big of a deal as many are making it out to be.

Danny Coulombe is a lefty and he's been pretty good.
 



It'll be interesting to see what they do with the roster once Larnach and Correa are back. I think they have to keep Lewis up now. Miranda seems like an obvious choice to get sent down as he's really struggled but then that only leaves Arraez as someone that's played 1B. Then it would come down to Gordon and Celestino. Celestino has played really well so Gordon might be the odd man out until someone else gets hurt.

Has any Twins reliever pitched that long this year (excluding a bullpen game)?

Seems like bullpen usage is usually 2-3 innings top in today's game and most lefties are specialists who come in for specific batters or to pitch one inning if they opposing team has multiple lefties scheduled to hit.

As much as I'd like to see Lewis stay up, I don't think he will. There's just not an everyday position for him right now unless they play him at LF. I don't see them keeping him around as a DH/utility player. They'll want him to continue to play everyday.

With not having an everyday DH, I think they can make it work if they want to. The question will be if they want him playing different positions or not. He could play 1/3 of the games at 3B, 1/3 in the OF and then one game a week at SS along with a DH opportunity once in awhile. He'd still essentially be an everyday guy, just playing different positions.

I would love to see them figure it out but I understand if they send him back down.

I hear ya. I don't think they do. I think longterm they view him as a SS or CF. I don't think they'll want to move him all over especially after not playing for 2 years. Plus Urshela has been great defensively at 3B, and Kepler and Celestino have been good at the plate. Sanchez has been adequate at DH. Gordon and Arraez are their utility guys.

We'll likely know more in a few hours when Correa is activated.

I do wonder if it's chronic or if there is some sort of remedy at all.

Supposedly this is related to the knee injury he suffered in Boston.
 


and the media - at least certain members - are having all kinds of fun with this.

Reusse is ripping the Twins' front office. Says Buxton not pinch-hitting the other night was the lowest point in franchise history. He claims the 100-game rule is coming from Falvey and Levine - not Rocco, but adds that "Rocco is lying to us."

and the Skor North boys are adopting this as their new cause, replacing the "Cousins sucks" theme.

On the roster - if Lewis stays up, he has to play somewhere. Either he bumps Celestino as the backup CF, or he bumps Gordon as the super-utility player.

I guess I see the Friday Cleveland game as a game a long reliever could have pitched. Instead of using 4 guys for the final 4 2/3rds inning maybe you just toss out 1 guy that way Duran doesn’t have to pitch for no reason.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but as noted in my post they don’t let any one pitcher go that long anymore, it’s all about the matchups/data- mix and matching.

TK ain’t in the dugout any longer.

I found out Gordon doesn't have any options left so he probably isn't going anywhere. He probably won't clear waivers.

They have 14 pitchers so my guess one pitcher goes and Miranda. It will probably by Smeltzer, even though he’s a lefty. You can’t get rid of Celistino as you need him to play center when Buxton ain’t playing. You can get rid of Garlick and add Larnach is back. Unfortunately to add Correa you probably gotta get rid of Lewis. That is unless you wan a got to 12 pitchers and 14 position players which could work.

As with most roster decisions it will be taken care of by another injury to some playing.

I doubt that. Buxton would be kicking and screaming if that were the case. Well at least screaming. He might injure himself kicking.
