is Mnfootballhub right in saying the Mankato West QB has a 27-0 TD-INT? Wow
Big time cheap shots. Kid looked like an idiot—then celebrated the penalties and losing? Good for him I guess. As others have said this was nothing that hasn't happened hundreds of times on football fields. Couple players lost control of their emotions late in the game and committed stupid penalties.
On the one getting the most attention the whole reason the XP was blocked (leading to the late hit on the kicker) in the first place was because someone from Maple Grove was flagged for taunting after their last TD which moved the kick back 15 yards.
And MG taunting penalty was the QB talking to the kid who had just shoved and twisted his head into the ground a couple of plays earlier.Big time cheap shots. Kid looked like an idiot—then celebrated the penalties and losing? Good for him I guess.
The MG taunting was foolish but at least they were winning
I told my wife I have no issue with what the MG kid did. Didn’t hurt his team or an opposing player. And that kid was being a punk to him. Even on that play he’s grabbing and shoving him AFTER he scored a touchdown. Comical. 34 staying in the game reflects so poorly on himself and the coaching staff. Just take him out. He didn’t need to be out there cheap shotting guys. And MG taunting penalty was the QB talking to the kid who had just shoved and twisted his head into the ground a couple of plays earlier.
I hope MG QB said something like “check the scoreboard dumbass”
That's my hometown team. Mt Iron-Buhl won the 9 Man championship in the school's first appearance in 50 years after Mt Iron won the Class B championship the very first year the state championship was held in 1972. The QB, Asher Zubich is really good, he threw for 2129 yds with 10.9 yds/att and 78.5% comp, and ran for 1691 yds with 8.5 yds/att, 32 pass and 28 rush TD with no int until the state final.
Thar sucks if refs missed that, which looks like this was the case. That is one hell of a play, but it shouldn't have counted.
There was illegal motion on #7 as he needed to get set for a second since he was motioning across the formation while the other receiver was running outside to the left.
One of the best 7 game Pep Bowl start to finish I can remember. Crowds looked great and Broadcast was well done.
Dave Lee did a fine job. He did his homework and knew the teams and their communities well. Understandably most didn’t like his Gophers broadcasts.two words - Dave Lee.
"Oh boy, the crowd is really into it......"
Nowadays, at least a the big school level, everything is recorded in HD and plays are reviewed during the game by players and coaches. I can tell you that a LOT of dirty stuff went on back when I played. I suspect that's harder to get away with now. What was your comment?
That the kid was a cheap shot artist and then he celebrated on tv and made himself look foolish?
He did. But he is a high schooler. He will grow up someday.
You're technically correct. That is one hell of a play, but it shouldn't have counted.

Idiotic take.You're technically correct.
DGF didn't even cover that kid (the one who didn't get set), and the ball wasn't thrown anywhere near him. He didn't block anyone or distract anyone. Completely irrelevant to the incredible play and effort.
So I'm glad it didn't get called.
Are we watching the same video?DGF was in zone coverage, that WR running up the field took the attention of somebody on the defense.

The penalty had absolutely nothing to do with the football play that occurred.Really? The offense never set in a formation for the play. It should have been blown dead and 5 yards marked off and they still would have been able to run a play. Sh!t happens and things get moving fast for officials as well, but this was a bad play to be able to win on.
Many factors including stubbornness. Some of it has to do with tax base, they have lakes in their area and likely have the funds to support their district. Some of it is voters willing to have their own district and support it.Congrats!
Now that the prep bowl is over, I feel like it is OK to ask this in this thread.
I had never heard of either Mt. Iron or Buhl. Looked them up on Google maps. Buhl is about ~7mi East of Chisholm, right on 169. Mt. Iron is about ~5mi West of Virginia, right on 169.
.... how do these two little towns have separate school district from the two larger communities, right there?? I don't understand why that makes sense. Why wouldn't Buhl kids just go to Chisholm, and why wouldn't Mt Iron kids just go to Virginia?
Just because the defense didn't fall for the decoy doesn't mean that the flag shouldn't have been thrown. The penalty had absolutely nothing to do with the football play that occurred.
Does a false start have nothing to do with the play if the guy doesn't participate in the play? If the guy is offsides and doesn't affect the play? Officials are expected to be 99% on pre snap penalties. Plays should anyways start clean. I know those officials will now think about that the rest of their lives as that's how seriously officials take the thankless job.The penalty had absolutely nothing to do with the football play that occurred.
False starts, offsides, holding, PI .... this stuff technically happens every play. It's always just a judgement call about when it gets egregious enough to actually pull the dirty laundry out and throw it.Does a false start have nothing to do with the play if the guy doesn't participate in the play? There was no judgement needed with that one. He never slowed down.False starts, offsides, holding, PI .... this stuff technically happens every play. It's always just a judgement call about when it gets egregious enough to actually pull the dirty laundry out and throw it.
Ball was not thrown anywhere near him, he didn't pull any defender away from where the ball was thrown. In fact he went inside, away from where the ball was thrown. He could not have affected the play any less than if he just stood there on the line of scrimmage cheering. To say he didn't impact that play is completely false as he is on the side that the play was thrown to.
Watch the play again. The way outside up defender moves in some to split the difference between the guy who catches the pass and #7 as the middle WR is covered man to man. DGF has 4 guys deep. #1 for them is the safety furthest away from the pass, but doesn't move the direction of the pass as much as he could have had #7 not been running a route down the middle. He still almost got to the guy to make the tackle.Ball was not thrown anywhere near him, he didn't pull any defender away from where the ball was thrown. Everyone has to be set, BEFORE there can be a person in motion. That doesn't happen on this play.I feel like I know a lot about football... played in college for 5 years, coached for 11 years after that. Honestly, I don't know what the right call is. Yes, there is two people in motion but the receiver on the bottom of the screen gets set. It doesn't matter if the guy is in motion, as long as he is moving parallel or away from the line of scrimmage.
What are people seeing that I am not seeing? I'm not saying I am right, but I am not seeing something...
Makes sense - I figured there was something with that. The receiver moving prior to the play has never been set.Everyone has to be set, BEFORE there can be a person in motion. That doesn't happen on this play.
If multiple players shift, all must reset before the snap or someone can go in motion. It didn't occur on this play. (This is a rule at all levels of Football), In Support of Gophers_4life, most would not pick up on this and likely the losing team had no clue until it was brought to their attention. However, a LB or DB seeing 2 guys in motion might not think the snap is imminent and be relaxed, caught off guard as the offense looks confused.Makes sense - I figured there was something with that. I guarantee the opposing coaches saw that.If multiple players shift, all must reset before the snap or someone can go in motion. It didn't occur on this play.
