I read it wrong. If they miss out on Vazquez they are gonna pivot onto another catcher. I was thinking it was either Correa or Vazquez
At least they figured out Jeffers isn’t the guy - wish he was as his Dis legit.
Unfortunately he has that big looping swing with lots of holes and is a little late to fix it now. JD Martinez did it, however it took him years and his swing talent was on a whole another level to begin with.

It's not that Jeffers is bad, but Doc Roc will never use the primary catcher more than 100 games even in perfect health. So you need two catchers because they will both play at least 70 games.

I am sure the owners would love one as you are limiting what they can pay for players. The MLBA will never go for it and they are the most powerful union in sports. If I’m Correa why do I want a salary cap to limit how much money I can make when it takes a minimum of 6 years to reach free agency. The divide between what makes sense for betterment of the game and what the players / owners what is enormous.
I'm not talking about a cap on individual players like the NBA, but a per team cap like the NFL.

NFL players do OK with a hard cap. They get screwed by not having guaranteed contracts, but MLB doesn't have to give that up to have a salary cap/floor. If you set a hard cap at say $250 and a floor of $100 million, the total spent by all 30 teams would be a wash and competitive balance would be much higher.

Agree to disagree based his production in 534 ABs and his .210 career average with a 1.9 WAR - you need much more production than this. The benchmark is ~600 ABs to know if a guy can hit MLB pitching.

Vasquez has a career 7 WAR. He’s a quality back stop and I think he’s be the primary guy 100+ games and Jeffers is the backup

You might be right. But every time it looks like Jeffers is getting his bat going, he gets hurt. Either way, we clearly need another option.

Wouldn't there need to be a more robust revenue sharing system in place before a floor could be instituted for the lower revenue teams? I know things have changed somewhat and admittedly I'm not an expert on the financials of MLB.

A team cap acts just like an individual salary cap. Yeah Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers are making $40 million a season. But think what Mahomes’s actual value is as he is the 1st or 2nd best player in the league at the most important position. If not for a salary cap he would be making hundreds of millions of dollars a year. This is especially true in the NFL which makes billions of dollars a year. Can you imagine the marketing and hype of Dallas or the Jets could simply offer Mahomes $100million a year and still field a competitive team around him if there was no salary cap.

So the Padres owner is worth less than the Pohlads, and they are in a smaller TV market, yet they continue to buy whoever they want...

Well the chances of landing Correa just went way down.

11 year deals are now in vogue apparently. And, no way, Correra’s not getting his ten years now as Bogarts & Turner are both 30 and Carlos is 28.

Heard a rumor about this on MLB the other day regarding this and dismissed it since they already have Tatis there and he was first team all MLB in 20 & 21.

Bogarts to 2nd? Tatis to CF?
Thoughts?

@tikited are u still with us?

They are Midwest cheap, plain and simple.

They’re the guys who play at the $2 blackjack table when they can easily afford the $50 table.

Tatis has already played some OF. He'd be fine pretty much anywhere. I'd guess Bogaerts plays SS for now.

more Twitter stuff: possible trade for pitching.....

Ted Schwerz - who does stuff for Twins Daily - says
#MNTwins are engaged in discussions with #Marlins regarding Pablo Lopez. has had around a 9.0 K/9 and solid FIP numbers the last 3 years.

Discussions have surrounded a prominent infielder for the Twins. Would not be a 1-for-1 deal either.

as to the 'prominent infielder,' could be Arraez or possibly Polanco. (that's guessing on my part)
