Interesting. Kellen Mond with the extra pick (#66) that we grabbed through the trade down.
 

Great draft so far. Would like to see a WR or two picked in the 4th.
 

Mond can be worse than Manziel and I still won't rip the pick. If you need to find a future QB, it's probably too late.

At least they are finally trying.

Mond was rated one of he top QBs in his HS class and has improved every season under Jimbo, who I consider an elite college coach.

He is mobile and can whip it deep, I like him learning behind Captain Kirk for the next couple of years - so a huge upgrade over Nate Stanley

Also Manzeil's pinnacle was winning the Heisman so he become a celebrity of sorts, had pics of himself taken in bathrooms with rolled up twenty's etc.... Mond's pinnacle is in front of him not in the rearview.

Bradbury ain’t garbage, Rick Dennison is garbage. However, I’ll give you that is same the thing for our purpose.

I got my fingers crossed on jamar Johnson. Think he could be the next Anthony Harris.

I wanted them to take a shot at Jamar Johnson.

I must admit, I’ve always felt this admin has been excellent at evaluating defensive talent.

I like the tisk they took in the 6th rd. Could be a steal.
 

Mike Tanier is a football scribe I enjoy following and he was doing pick by pick draft analysis for Football Outsiders through round 3. He was pretty tough on most of that round, but here’s what he had to say about DE Jones from Pitt:

I'm one that happened to really like what the Vikings did in the draft. It's a risky move and it would be a gamble but if Darrisaw and Wyatt Davis start on the OL, the entire OL will be 25-yrs old or less. That could be a great thing moving forward, or it may not!

The Athletic had a brief take on the Vikings draft as a whole, giving them a strong "A" grade overall. Note: if you're a Zim/Spiel hater, you may not like or agree with this review:

"No team understands the concept of drafting for volume more than the Vikings. They have made 38 picks in the last three drafts, including 12 in the first three rounds.

The Vikings wisely traded back from 14 in the first round and still landed a left tackle in Christian Darrisaw at No. 23, picking up selections 66 and 86 in the process. Taking a shot on quarterback Kellen Mond in the second was perfectly reasonable. If he’s a backup, that’s good value. If he surprises and looks like a starter, it offers huge upside, given how inexpensive he’ll be.

The Vikings finished the draft having made 11 selections, including five in the top 100. Not many teams seem to have a sounder process than them when it comes to the draft.

I like the Kellen Mond pick, I have to say. Low risk, high reward. Worst case, he's probably as capable a backup as Sean Mannion, best case, he could really turn into something special if he develops.

Per my previous post, I agree and hopefully the DL can get some more pressure and the back 7 will be better as well.

I agree. I liked how the Vikings ran their draft.

I also must admit that I'm excited to see Mond play. It seems like ages since we've had a mobile young QB in purple.

Teddy used to be fairly mobile, but this kid is more like Culpepper.
 



I'm hoping he's more like Daunte, and less like Tarvaris.

Better still: as a mobile QB, I would love it if Mond plays like Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers (without the A-Rodg drama, of course).

I knew they had some money to work with, especially after June 1 when a lot of the Rudolph money gets freed up. That could really come in handy as some FA either become available or start to think about reducing their asking price.
 

I still have to believe the Vikings roster is not close to being set yet. The status of the DB room is less than exciting for example, and pass rusher is less than ideal. Again, they have some more money to spend and I still think we see some things happen, especially after June 1. Without question they know more about Gladney's situation than any of us, maybe they are optimistic he'll be on the field for most of this season?

For the first time in ages, there is a LITTLE optimism or comfort level with the OL, although that's putting a lot on the rookies that were just drafted. IF you assume a starting OL of Bradbury, Cleveland, O'Neill, Davis and Darrisaw, that still leaves some fairly competent backups in Rashod Hill and Mason Cole. It's a young OL, but one with some upside.

Gotta believe they aren't done yet, especially with some money to spend. I'm willing to bet there are some more moves on the horizon

At this point, may Hunter his money. I'd take the risk, even given his recent injury.

I was also hoping they would land Kerrigan. There's other DEs out there, hopefully they take a flyer on one that can produce
