wake forest was 3-15 in conference last year, ECU was 2-10 in the American. I'm not saying they won't be better than the gophers this year, just that exposure might not be the only reason for not coming to the gophers.

You don’t know that Sy rejected the U. You assume that. You make a lot of interesting assumptions. That’s ok, it’s a message board.

Well, clearly playing time is not "an easy sell" as some on here have mentioned. By all accounts, so called experts predict we will be a bottom 2-3 team next year.

If the 22 class isn't a top 30 class, it could be a long 4 years.

I joked in the start of the commits we were getting that Ben seems to be going after Northwestern type players. I hope that remains a joke.

I think Ben will get a top 25 class this fall. If not, the next 4 years WILL be tough. Great coaches still need great talent.

I don't think so...he was going to declare, then on the day he was going to, delayed the decision. Then Minnesota is no longer in his final group. Why do that if Minnesota wasn't your first choice. My guess is he didn't get into the school...but Wake Forest is a much more difficult school to get into. A better theory would be that Minnesota no longer wanted him...perhaps they have a silent verbal or something that isn't announced yet. We'll see. But I see it as a good not bad sign.

I think this was probably the case of Minnesota not wanting him not the other way around. We'll probably never know but if we weren't his choice he wouldn't have delayed his decision IMHO.

It says a lot about your mindset that you're trying to make Gach returning to Utah symbolic of the offseason being a disaster. This is really the least of our concerns of everything that happened.

People can say they didn’t like Gach, but he would of been arguably our best player this year.

I'm not even sure what you have to base this statement off of. Gach barely played in the Big Ten and we have nearly an entire new team. So you've studied the film that deeply on all these incoming guys and know how their games will translate to the Big Ten?

I'm with ya here. I don't get how they think he'd play or be better than Battle for example. This is going to be a new system and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Gach while very talented, still had a lot of work to do defensively. Will be interesting to see how Craig Smith does with him.

That would have been a terrible argument because he was very very baaaaaad last year.

I have no idea what to expect from all these new guys, but I find it hard to believe they will all be worse than Both Gach.
 

Gach had a bad foot last season. He's much better than what he was able to show.

I'm not in overreaction mode like some, but it's not a great sign when a player from MN who transferred back last season to be closer to friends and family, has decided to leave again and not play for a coach who was hired to keep MN talent home.

We keep hearing about people angry that BJ was brought in to keep in state talent home, and then a guy that is from here leaves in the prime of his career so he doesn’t play for a rebuilding team. Give me a break, he has already proven that to me by bringing in all of our current roster back home. You won’t get every guy, and both is an example.
 

We want the good players from MN, Both Gach was not good. Good luck in Utah! For the record I was hoping to hire Craig Smith.

They believe this because they are simple minded with brains made of impenetrable lead. It goes like this: Gach was a P6 player (in two conferences actually) so he must be better than any player who wasn't. Apparently, even after seeing players like Gaston, Bakary, Michael Hurt, Jarvis Omersa, and Ahmad Gilbert coming through here as freshman recruits in recent years, their beliefs are unshaken. The fact that our second and third best players (Robbins and Johnson) this season were mid-major transfers as were Reggie Lynch and Akeem Springs before them provides no altering effect at all to their belief system.

As it stands today our current roster appears to be one of the worst in the B1G. That proves something? With the way the transfer portal is this year, it is far easier for a new coach to build a roster with experience that can compete next season. Next season should not have to be a complete rebuild.

This is the part that makes me laugh at that stuff the most. Memories are short for many I guess.

I think they can be better than last year and hopefully finish in 12th place! What exactly was there to not rebuild after the PG left for the NBA and the center left because they didn't keep his uncle. The team outside of those two was hot garbage and with those two they still finished in 13th place.
 

Gach if he is healthy will average 15 ppg next year. Our roster on paper looks like hot garbage.
 


Some of the stuff on here just baffles me. People seem just 100% ok being absolutely terrible next year, like thats ok. Why? I am not saying we should be winning the B1G next year but in this day and age with transfers guys are out there, we should not be over the moon about 6th men from Lafayette or role players from William and Mary and New Hampshire. Might they be solid players, sure but thats what we are accepting now?

Is losing Both the difference between 4th in the B1G and 14th, obviously not, he wasnt great last year, thats not the point. We are having a tough time filling out a roster and we have a player who can at least function in the B1G and is from MN and he leaves. That to me is a red flag. If we had been bringing in guys left and right and had a guy ready to take Both's minutes then ok, but we are picking up walk ons who were just ok for their high school teams.

And to the people that say we were 13th last year, who cares if we are bad this year. Sure we werent good, I was all in on moving on from Pitino, but we at least had a glimmer of hope last year, this year is looking like an embarrassment. None of this means I think Johnson wont be the right guy, I sure hope he is, but if you think this start is anything other that awful then you are just wrong. Maybe Johnson is a great coach and we are "scrappy" and fun and the '22 class is a monster, but every day we get more bad news and less good news makes me more nervous.

Is it too much to ask to just have a good team year in and year out? I mean honestly I just want to have something good on the horizon most years, not just dread each game in the hopes we dont lose by too many.

I didn't say they didn't have to rebuild, I said it's easier for a 1st year head coach to have a competitive team in his first season with the state of this years transfer portal. He doesn't have to rebuild a roster with a bunch of freshman.

Last year's team was significantly better on paper than the roster that's currently assembled. I like some of the wings Johnson has brought in, but currently we have Payton Willis as our PG and virtually nothing in the front court. It's June, that's not good.
