All Things 2021 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

Maybe Pitino can coach em up, overachieve in 3 years, and get em all the way up to an 8th place B1G finish!!
We have recruited better than UW by the rankings several times but never finish ahead of them. Maybe with this loaded transfer roster we can finally surpass them once.

Assuming Curry and Johnson graduate and elect not to come back and Carr goes pro do you think we pick up another transfer for this class or high school player?

I’d bet a transfer given how successful Pitino has been with them and the fact that there will probably be a record amount of players in the portal.

It seems Richard is very comfortable with Spring recruiting now. With the resent changes in NCAA rules, it will be interesting to see if that continues to be part of our identity.

They're going to need a transfer PG to bridge the gap to Mashburn in 2022-23. He's shown promise but not sure he'll be ready for 30 minutes a night next year.

I really wonder how this "free year" will effect stuff. Would it shock anyone to see the entire Wisconsin team back next year? Its not like those guys are pro good, i could see Davison, Ruevers, Trice, etc all saying lets run it back!

Like a Johnson to me is a good example, is there a reason he wouldnt say he wants to come back? If we have a good year and he is getting run feels like that could be in the cards no? And then that circles back to a ton of transfers as a 4th year guy sees a guy taking his spot at a Texas/Kansas type and goes hey I can go to a Minnesota and play, why not.

Most guys aren't NBA players but that doesn't mean they can't move on to the next thing. Basketball overseas will more than pay the bills and also allow them to keep playing. Maybe coaching at some level is the next thing for some.

It doesn’t take 7 star players. It takes 4-5 dependable role players and an offensive system that features 2-3 guys that produce at an all big ten level. We’ve had enough talent to be way more competitive than we have. Not saying we should have won the big ten, but we’ve underperformed under pitino. That’s my point.
Don't know what teams you have been watching but this is the first year we have had 7 Big Ten caliber players that deserve minutes. I don't remember ever even having 5.

Some will go to Europe, we have those guys. We will grab new guys but other programs are now focusing on supplementing youth with transfers.

Curry should stay. He could have a doctorate paid for in full for free! That's one heck of a good deal.

I've thought about this for some reason lately and with all the projected transferring that the college basketball world is in for this spring creates a lot of unknown for now.

It would be nice if we had three top100 prospects locked and loaded for next year, but we've kind of swung and missed on a lot of the 2021 guards - which leads me to believe they'll be scouring the recruiting market heavily - and Pitino has shown he can do that at a decent level.

If Gach and Robbins both return, the team should be in solid position to be competitive again. But they'll need to target a 20-30 minute-per-game caliber guard. Ideally someone who can play with Kalscheur/Gach (provided he's back) plus play with Mashburn (who you need to keep happy/engaged so that he's not a flight risk).

There's just a lot of unknown when it comes to projecting next year's team because they don't have a lot of recruits lined up, they've got guys who we believe should return, but wouldn't be shocked if they opted to leave (Gach, Robbins, Johnson) creating this weird limbo that the team is in where there are a lot of potential balls in the air.

Roster construction in the current college basketball world would be a pain in the butt (but one I'd happily do for a couple million bucks).

Isaac Traudt recruiting really blowing up. Elite programs paying attention and some are offering.

It's difficult to figure out if he's any good as he never gets the ball.

Kendall Brown is dominating, however.
Kendall Brown is really impressive. Pohto didn’t stand out, there is so much talent on that team though so I won’t hold that against him.

Same with this game, he never gets the ball unless it's a rebound. Made some good plays, finds the open guy. Looks like a fairly high bbiq player

Per Brandon:

One of the top unsigned senior guards remaining, Jackie Johnson has seen his recruitment pick up lately. East Carolina, North Texas, and St. Bonaventure have all offered Johnson within the past week and high major programs are beginning to show interest.

"My mom and my coach always told me that the attention will come and to stay patient," says Johnson on the recent uptick in his recruitment. "Right now I am just trying to enjoy the process."

A 5-foot-10 point guard out of Wichita (Kan.) Johnson also has been hearing from Kansas and Minnesota. He discussed the schools he has heard from recently with 247Sports:

East Carolina: "I talked to Joe Dooley. I enjoy talking to him and think he is really personable. It felt great to get the offer. They have a tough team that competes in the American c onference. Their win over a top-five Houston team was a great one."

Kansas: "They are a winning program. Bill Self is a great coach and I love what he has done with his players. It would be an honor to get an offer from there.

Minnesota: "I have a good relationship with Kyle Lindsted and have been talking with him since the beginning of the year. The Big Ten is a great conference. Their team is doing well this year and Richard Pitino does a great job with his players.

North Texas: "I am familiar with the location of the school. I really like Matt Braeuer. Every time we talk, it is a great conversation. I was happy when they offered me. They were the best team in Conference USA last year."

Go Gophers!!

Go Gophers!!
Does not compute

It’s odd how so many people could not see how this was going to be awful. Many of you fans on here are blind to sloppy recruiting. Sloppy coaching and sloppy playing. Sloppy!

Yeah those wins against Iowa, Michigan, and Ohio St along with the #15 ranking screamed "this team is a dumpster fire and so so sloppy!!!"

It's very very easy to use that logic right now but if you were disappointed in the team at that point in the season you must have a pretty sad life.

LOL.

Just admit you've been wrong all along, and let's move on.
