Versatile coach who showed he could win at a lot of different places/conferences, and could adapt along the wayLon Kruger chimes in:

Too bad. Heck of a coach. Mark Turgeon/Craig Smith to Oklahoma or his kid jilts UNLV a few days after taking it? I assume he knew dad was retiring when he took the job.Lon Kruger chimes in:

I wondered the same. When he took the UNLV job, I thought what a fish out of water, and just like everywhere else, he made them tough/respectable, including I think one sweet sixteen run. He could coach just about anywhere and turn it positive.Too bad. Heck of a coach. Mark Turgeon/Craig Smith to Oklahoma or his kid jilts UNLV a few days after taking it? I assume this is the WCC's Portland, not Portland State (same conf as E Wash). And if so, I guess "surprised", maybe, that this would be a "step up" for him, in pay, etc.?
If their choices are Turgeon or Smith, I hope they choose Smith.I wondered the same. They may view Turgeon as a more natural/geo-fit. Similar in some ways to Kruger with his Kansas background. If their choices are Turgeon or Smith, I hope they choose Smith.
Maybe but Turgeon has generally been underwhelming. They may view Turgeon as a more natural/geo-fit. Similar in some ways to Kruger with his Kansas background.
Wow. Two years? Not much patience from the bearcats.Cincinnati fires coach John Brannen
I deleted post, came from fake Twitter account apparently.Wow. Two years? Not much patience from the bearcats.
Like the fit in his home state.
Is this like a Shaka thing, where Ohio St fans want him out? Why would he leave OSU for IU?Indiana might be putting full court press on Holtman!
Jim Delaney would have smacked that right down. Will Kevin Warren?Indiana might be putting full court press on Holtman!
Have to think it comes with a pretty decent cut in pay. Milwaukee Journal saying it's a done deal. I think growing his hair out was bad tourney karma for him.Like the fit in his home state.
Marquette is actually one of the highest spending basketball programs in the country surprisingly. I bet the pay will be comparable.Have to think it comes with a pretty decent cut in pay. Milwaukee Journal saying it's a done deal. I think growing his hair out was bad tourney karma for him.
No it’s like the UCLA thing where they think people want their job but they don’t.Is this like a Shaka thing, where Ohio St fans want him out? Why would he leave OSU for IU?
Last one made $1.8M. Smart was at $3.2M.Marquette is actually one of the highest spending basketball programs in the country surprisingly. I bet the pay will be comparable.
Fun with Finances: Basketball Budgets — Three-Man-Weave
In the doldrums of the offseason, we pivoted off the basketball court to open up the accounting ledger. Using the most recent Department of Higher Education numbers, here’s a quick look at each team’s spending situation.www.three-man-weave.com
Heard there’s a Texas clause in Beard’s contract that would make UT pay 16 million if Beard leaves TT for UT.
That's a big Twinkie.Heard there’s a Texas clause in Beard’s contract that would make UT pay 16 million if Beard leaves TT for UT.
Yup, just saw tweet from rothstein saying smith to utah.
Pretty much. At least Utah is a job he could be pried away from in 3-4 years.Sigh
Utah has been better over the last generation because they've hired better coaches. And here we go again.Setting up for non-stop comparisons between Minnesota and Utah. Utah is a historically better program though.
