All Things 2012-2013 Gopher Women's Basketball Season Thread

Gophers season is done. Ball State won 54-51. Gophers had to make a rally to make it close, they were losing 48-35. Were down 11-0 to start the game as well and 27-17 at halftime. Offense was horrible throughout most the game. Ball State only has 7 players available.

Kionna Kellogg granted release from #gophers women's basketball.

Fire Borton. That's the only thing that matters at this point. She's completely inept, and she has crushed the program.

Tell Maturi to fly back from China and put his $400K+ salary that was supposedly justified as a fundraising position to raise funds for the mistake he made in extending her.

Doesn't Kaler understand that taking care of people like Maturi gives the U a black eye and allows our former governor to scream waste, fraud, and abuse on Minnpost and in the Strib? But, Maturi is the prime example of waste, fraud, and abuse.

Anyone know why Kellog left the womens basektball program

Kellog was a player that could give them some fouls and defensive presence at least.
Gophers are already short on post players and now they lose a senior to be. This just doesn't seem right.
I know nobody hardly cares but it is beyond me how the womens program had risen to drawing 6,000 to 8,000 fans and could have been a revenue neutral sport.
and now they cannot even barely get triple didgets to 1,000 in the building not counting cheerleaders and the band.
It's a shame Rachel Banham is a phenomenal player, and the frehsmen they brought in Bailey, Mullaney and Johnson are all talented and will help but something is rotten in that department. Unfortunately everyone else in the conference has 3 or 4 Rachel Banhams on the floor. Minnesota consistently loses top talent to out of state schools.
This is a shame Banham is a player people should want to watch.

What are Teague and Ellis afraid of in keeping coach Borton around, if ever there has been a head coach that has deserved to be fired so many times at the U it is this coach? If you judge stritctly on results on the basketball floor and based on Big 10 coference standigns and attendance this coach should have already gotten the BOOT.
They would be better off getting rid of Borton and putting
one of the assistant coaches in charge at least the negativity and the scapegoating would be gone.
For every strong supporter Borton has there are just as many just as soon see her negativty gone from the program.

Hard to believe that there aren't a whole lot of better candidates out there than her. There just has to be. You last line might have crystalized the problem. While she doesn't have a ton of supporters, Borton does have people who support Women's Sports over at the U in her corner. Her biggest, or at least loudest, detractors seem to also be the same people who want every sport EXCEPT Men's Basketball, Football and Hockey thrown off campus or have their budget's slashed to move money to the "revenue producers". They already tried to kill some of those Non-Revenue sports and it didn't work. It's doubtful that the big donors to the U are demanding the elimination of those programs. Some of them, Harvey Mackay in particular, led the charge to keep them in place!

Not surprising then that those "people" who hate the programs aren't being listened to by the people who's job it is to fund and make the programs work. "We hate non-revunue sports. They're a drain and a waste. We hate all Woman's Sports, except for Hockey and we demand you listen to us! "

No, they're not going to. Get the Mona's, Pillsbury's and whoever else who writes the big checks or even the people who have Woman's Basketball season tickets to complain about Borton and things might change. The "innuendo guys" aren't going to get anything done.
