I want good games. The next round will likely be a dud as well. The national playoff is a crap product. I would much rather see a conference playoff.
Yeah, not sure why this is a tough concept to grasp. Sure the majority of the bowl games are garbage matchups between mediocre teams....but that isn't the point. It is something to watch during the holidays. Doesn't need to be anything more than that.
Do they put antifreeze in the water lines of dorms and shut off heat in the dorms north of the Mason Dixon line? I guarantee no FBS school will complain about hosting a CFB playoff in December or January.
I'm not exactly sure what they do, but yeah for buildings not being used for 3-4 weeks in the winter they are shut down.
If I’m looking at that correctly, 2 of the 5-8 teams will not advance, while 2 of the 9-12 teams will. Most likely 2 blowout games are being moved to the second round.
You want the whole regular season to be less meaningful? His point wasn’t illogical it’s just a different opinion. The larger you make the playoff the more you’re going to see top players sitting out of it.

It looked that way to me as well. And all crowds seemed to be into the game like it was a big deal. Giving the fans a home playoff game felt more like a real college atmosphere than most bowl games do.
More neutral fans as 1983 suggested would turn the games into more of a snoozefest once they get to a double digit lead.
HOT TAKE - I would actually be completely OK with NCAA Men's Basketball returning to Home Sites for the Rounds of 64 & 32.

It should have happened for hockey a long time ago. The attendance for first round playoff regionals are embarassing at best.
I wonder about that too with some stadiums. Obviously places like SDSU and the Montana schools have hosted FCS playoff games in some pretty brutal weather, but the FBS season has never gone this late at home sites. I'm not sure what the situation would be for places like Iowa City, Madison, Lincoln, Laramie, Indiana etc. Obviously Illinois and Minnesota hosted NFL teams on an interim basis, so we know those stadiums can be used in the winter. I think both Michigan and MSU hosted college hockey outdoor games.
I'm not against that either, but if you look back at Gopher Hockey history 70s/80s/early 90s some of the smallest crowds at Old Mariucci/Williams Arena were for NCAA Tournament Games (2 Game Total Goal Series or Best of 3).
Seems like a lot of red herrings here. It's not like there are no sporting events during that time. Seems to staff those without problems.
Don't you think the infrastructure/logistics are different for staffing a 10,000 - 15,000 seat arena vs a 50,000 -110,000 capacity stadium?
They figured out how to do it at Penn State, which is more out of the way than Notre Dame...where do you think most of ND season ticket holders stay? As for the Gophs, being in a major metro area makes it straightforward.
