All four playoff winners were on home field

I vote No on that proposal.

- Makes the Regular Season more worthwhile as an incentive to finish T8

- Seemed more interesting/exciting with a Home Crowd/sellouts

- Travel fatigue for the Teams fanbases.

- I don't care about the weather when I am watching from home. Didn't impact the results either, IMO.

Plus three of the four games were icebox games. Move these early games to bowls in warmer areas and have an even field of play for both teams. There are 50+ bowls - lots to choose from, doesn't matter if they are unknown.
Why should northern teams that have to build rosters and philosophies suitable for cold weather be punished? Why cater to the SEC teams etc that can just play basketball on grass?

I would go the other way and not have neutral site games until the final four. So the first round bye teams get to host a game, too.

Neutral site atmospheres are lousy, especially with 4 rounds to expect people to travel to.

I’m the other way and prefer the home field for one more round.
I agree, but I don't think that would ever happen. As it is the NY6 get either a Quarter or Semi Final. An extra Home round cuts those in half.

I don't know that college campuses would be keen on having to open up during the middle of Winter Break. Likely would have to have 2 rounds prior to Christmas.

As it is, we get a NYD Tripleheader bonanza (with a NYE Appetizer). That should be a blast.

absolute hard no on moving 1st round to neutral sites. Only argument I'd have it home field next round to really reward your conf champs, though it is unfair to some degree in the current setup because the games under comparison are so few (who is to say ND was better than Indy and deserved home field more given ND had a far worse loss than Indy's, Indy had a better SOS, and the efficiency numbers were only slightly in NDs favor).

This I think is the only argument for going to 16 is the idea of a home game for all upper seeds in the CFP. Again the issue is the differences between those in the field are small when so few games are cross conference and home field can be a massive advantage (the weather argument was nothing to me this weekend as compared with the crowd noise, which college kids are much worse at dealing with versus pros). I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from the home teams sweeping given those 4 teams were all favored rather comfortably by most pundits.

I would also like 1 tweak in that if you the 5th conference champ, you are the auto 5 seed/get a home game. was pretty BS Clemson's reward for winning their conf champ was to be seeded lower than the team they beat to get in.

As the playoff goes on for a few years I think people will start to forget that the 2nd round is “the bowls” and it will be easier to sever that tradition in favor of campus sites for these games.

They don’t want the blood of the Rose Bowl on their hands right now but it will be easier to take those games out down the road.

I honestly think the long term solution is;
Start the season the weekend before Labor Day.
Conference championship or what will become play in weekend thanksgiving weekend.

First weekend in December is army navy (Dec 7 this year)

Second weekend in December round 12 at home site (Dec 13-14)
Third weekend in December is round of 8 at home sites (Dec 20-21)
These games would be Ohio state @ Oregon
Penn state @ Boise state
Texas @ Arizona state
Notre Dame @ Georgia

Semi finals New Year’s Day always. Rose Bowl and rotating site always second site is 715 kickoff.

National title game Monday following Jan 1 with a minimum of 8 days off. So this year would be the 13th.

The season essentially ending for everyone except two teams by Jan 1 also solves some portal timing issues as well. Make the portal Dec 26-Jan 15.

The rose bowl should always be locked in as a semifinal on Jan 1. Would be awesome.

Doesn't matter where the games are played. Twelve teams is too many. Should be 6-8.

Just to throw out an idea...Structure the regular season to end in a conference tournament.

Tier the bowl games like they always have, but provide substantial payouts to the winning players to provide incentive to play. I think most of the new age players care more about money than a Natty anyways.

A lot of the problems of this year would be solved simply by scheduling round robins within the conference schedule

All four home teams were heavily favored to win. No one would travel to bowls to watch those games this close to Christmas.

The next round is at traditional new years bowls and people will travel. Also football fans will travel to watch.

Semifinals would be the round I’d consider to also be on campus.

I think the sites are good. I’d look to tweak the seeding if any changes are done.

If anything I would like to see the quarter finals on home fields as well

Definitely a hard no for me on even more neutral site games. If you are going to play the first round at neutral sites benefitting warmer climate teams, you might as well just say all games hosted by southern teams to make it even harder for northern teams. Can you imagine having your team qualify for the playoff and then trying to schedule hotels and flights for four games surrounding the holidays?

As others have said, for this to work the first round has to be on campus and if anything move the second round on campus as well, not the other way around.

There has been so much overreaction based on what we have seen so far.

12 teams works. Having the first round on campus works (the games weren’t great but the atmospheres were top notch college football). Let it breath.

It will be extremely rare for a team like Indiana or Boise to win a game or two but their losses are not in vane. Getting to the playoff helps build programs. The more actual games played instead of hypothetical “this team would beat that team” - the better.

Drawbacks:

- The Weekend before Labor Day TV ratings suck. Thanksgiving Weekend is TV ratings gold for what now is Rivalry week. I think the current TV/Streaming partners would balk B1Gly.

- Traveling short notice during Thanksgiving game at either a Home or Neutral site is also problematic. A team's fan base might not know until the Saturday before at midnight that in 5 or 6 days they are either hosting or playing a game?

Solution: Just move the Army-Navy game to some other featured window. How about on or near Veteran's Day? Play it Friday if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Start a new tradition.

You could leave army navy on round of 12 weekend if they were ready to say they are simply never going to the playoff.
Army was 11-1 this year and wasn’t close. They might be willing to just say that.
It’s the 5th game of round of 12 weekend

But the issue with round of 12 starting just one week after thanksgiving is that a team wouldn’t find out until Sunday they are playing a road game Friday night. You kind of need a one week gap from end of regular season to first round of playoff

I’d go one step further and say lock it in as the national championship game on Jan 1.

Either move the start of the season up or eliminate the conference championship games.

- 16 seed tourney
- First round the weekend after Thanksgiving weekend (12/6-12/7 this year) at top seeded team’s site
- Second round the following weekend at top seeded team’s site (12/13-12/14 this year)
- Third round the following weekend at top seeded team’s site (12/20-12/21 this year)
- Weekend off over Christmas for rest and for fans to organize travel to Pasadena
- National championship game on 1/1 in Pasadena, CA

Army/Navy can move up to Thanksgiving weekend.

Call it the NCAA tournament. Get rid of the college football playoff branding nonsense.

Other bowls can continue to exist and invite teams outside the top 16 but they’ll probably wither away over time. Too bad so sad. My preference was always to keep the old conferences and bowl system in tact but if we’re going to have a tournament, might as well go all in.

Playing the first three rounds at a home site rewards the teams who did best in the regular season.

Just wrap things up on Jan 1 because most people’s interest wanes after that point. And doing it at the Rose Bowl every year gives every team in the country a symbolic destination to dream of getting to all season.

Would be in but if you eliminate inventory you eliminate revenue and that’s not happening

I watched all four games this weekend and the games were electrifying being on campus. Win all the way around for college football.

Blowouts happen. Guess what the average margin over victory in the FCS round of 8 was 32points.

D3 semi finals were 39
D2 semi finals were 12

People will say we should just go back to 4 but that is not inclusive. 12 works and my only gripe is the unbalanced scheduling and the automatic bids needing to be tweaked.

Anything at allows the top 4-6 in the conference to play a game to get in would be best.

Yeah, every solution has some unintended consequences.

my gut says the only thing that changes is that they eliminate the byes for the top 4 conference champions. the big 4 conf champs and best G5 conf champ still get auto qualifiers, but once the field is set, seed it from 1-12.

the best 4 teams get the byes and home games in 1st round.

that eliminates the wonky scheduling where #1 overall seed Oregon has much tougher bracket than Penn State.

I think regardless of how it impacts the CFP, something has to give with the Army-Navy game.

As it stands, for NOW they are in the same Conference but the current contest is Non-Conference and AFTER the AAC Championship game.

They very easily could have been playing back-to-back weeks.

I think they will eliminate 2 of the Byes by going with a 14 Team Field.

I think that happens as well.
I hope they keep the advantage to conference champs and say 4 conference champs have to be top 8 seeds.

1) Oregon
9) Tennessee @ 8) Arizona state

4) penn state
12) Clemson @ 5) Notre Dame

2) Georgia
10) Indiana @ 7) Boise State

3) Texas
11) SMU @ 6) Ohio state
