A Proposal from Buckyville

How about the winner gets to post 6 big banners on their website....

Proclaiming their 6 National Championships

No wait... only 1 of us could do that.

I'm sorry but 6 National Titles before the Johnson Administration?

Let's make a Jan bowl than talk some smack to WI or Iowa fans

OK, I think we can now safely agree that ALL fan bases have their lunatic/idiotic fringe (we regularly see some of yours at Buckyville). To admit you only cared about college football for nine years and then come over here woofing to people who have followed it through the Dark Times in Minnesota is a bit much.

Perhaps you should read Monsignor's post on The Storied Rivalry, then think before you post.

Thanks, TAW. :)

It's good to see allegiance to one's team doesn't blind one to sheer idiocy when it rears its head. And if I posted on Buckyville (until we're consistently better, I'm choosing to not taunt other team's fans in their own house), I'd like to think I'd do the same.

Iowa and Wisconsin both have a similar level of football tradition. That is to say, both have zero. Zilch. Hope this helps.

It is funny

how the rest of the Big Ten feels the same way about Wisconsin as we do. Why hate Wisconsin when they are so pathetic that you feel sorry for them. Well almost.
But enough with the envy. Being from Wisconsin you are pre-disposed with a greater chance of becoming a serial killer than the rest of the country. So you are less endowed than the rest of the country.
Get over it already.
And about those National Championships. I will take those over anything that you have and yes the country does know about them.
If you are in and around town on Saturday I am not responsible for you running into my bumper. Remember the saying, better dead than red. So take your !@#&%##%$^ and get lost.

Go Gophers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wisconsucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey goofball...ever study history at that sorry excuse for a university of yours?

Those games must have been really fun for you to see. Wow...a 90 year old man on the internet. I'm impressed! Pretty sad when your only claim to fame is 60 years old, and nobody alive remembers it.

I say we put up 6 pictures of us winning the ax, from 2004-2009. That's more relevant to today.

We Americans happen to celebrate as a nation an event that occurred 232+ years ago...it's called Independence Day. You know...July 4th, 1776? Ever heard of it? Neither of us were "alive" then, but I suspect you celebrate the day off just like the rest of us do to honor that momentous event in our nation's history. Perhaps you're a foreigner and aren't aware of this fact in US history...if so, you're excused...on second thought, aren't all Wisconsinites foreigners???

And about those National Championships. I will take those over anything that you have
yeah, those 3 Rose Bowls I attended in person SUCKED! I'd much rather have the pride of knowing my grandpa got there instead of me.

Unless you were born in the 1930s, you have witnessed more Gopher football losses than you have victories. FACT!

False. If you were born in 1997, you've witnessed more Gopher football wins than losses: 69-65.

Suck it.

Unless you were born in the 1930s, you have witnessed more Gopher football losses than you have victories against the Badgers. FACT!

Fixed. What you wrote is probably true as well, but not as important, especially this week.

The difference is that when I encounter British people I don't feel the need to bring up the Declaration of Independence.

I left a message for the moderator at Gopher Hole. It sounds like fun. I'm game!

Visit Buckyville!

If Southfew's game for this, so is GopherHole! It will add another element to this highly anticipated rivalry.

We'll take the challenge to post the other site's banner for a week...I don't think either fanbase will be able to stomach it for much longer than that!

I would prefer or in addition would like to see the opposing team holding the axe as well. I think it's fitting for this game.

Yeah, the facts back you up on that one.

Cute how you guys look out for each other, though. You all are a real band of brothers. Henry V would be proud.

I like the amended idea of the banner for one week following our victory and again the lead up week next year.

Hey Breadtree...

The difference is that when I encounter British people I don't feel the need to bring up the Declaration of Independence.

...you "bring it up" when the opposition constantly tells you you aren't worth a darn. Frankly, I did "bring it up" when my British friends threw "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" at me or the US. I reminded them that the Minutemen used guerrilla tactics on the Redcoats between Lexington and Concord. They stirred the pot - I responded in kind. Besides, at all US Embassies worldwide, we invite the Brits to our Independence Day festivities, just as their embassies invite us to their Armistice Day and Gallipoli remembrances. So, "we bring it up" every year with the Brits. Case closed.

So, we "bring it up" when the BADD-gers try to tell Minnesotans that previous Minnesota success isn't worth a damn. While the BADDDD-gers might have had recent success (good for them), their historical football exploits pales in comparison to Minnesota's. So, lets keep "history" in context, shall we?

Maybe have a "create a banner" competition for gopherhole members on monday after the victory. People could post their submissions on a tacked thread? It could make for some good entertainment

Our only claim to fame is 60 years old? When was your claim to fame? Of course, we all know the answer is never. Wisconsin football has never achieved anything in its 100+ years of existence. Zero National Championships. Seven fewer Big Ten titles. Zero tradition. Hope this helps.

National Championships All Time

Minnesota (last in 1960) - 6
Nebraska (last in '97, back to back in '94 and '95) - 5
Texas (last in 2005) - 4
Florida (last in 2008) - 3

Since you seem to claim illustrious tradition based solely on championships awarded almost 50 years ago (with the only qualifier being the total regardless of when they are won), would you then claim that Minnesota has a more illustrious college football tradition than Nebraska, Florida, and Texas? And if so, would you be willing to claim that to them directly? (And post the results?)

By the way, the banner wager is a good one.

Can we raise the stakes with Buckyville such that the loser get's Reusse? Could we be so fortunate that he would move there? It is possible he's already a bigger fan of Wisconsin and Iowa then Minnesota?

I'm going to double post with the other thread.

Something like this?

Here is the final banner from Buckyville

It will be on Gopher Hole starting tomorrow until kickoff versus Purdue and will be on Gopher Hole for one week leading up to next year's Axe game.

I really like the banner.

I can't wait to see it up.
