2025 Transfer Portal Watch

As of this moment, I am seeing only 4 players who have transferred to any Big Ten school. Iowa seems to be winning the race with 2 of the 4 transfers. UCLA and Ohio State each have 1 transfer commitment. 7 days in and not much movement across the board.

Most of the really desirable programs are still playing...

I think too many people are letting recency bias affect their thinking due to this year being top heavy and now think it will always be this way. There's only so much playing time the top schools can offer, so plenty of good players will end up at lesser programs.

The final 4 last year was two 1 seeds, a 4, and an 11. And the two 1 seeds, UConn and Purdue build their rosters with very few transfers.
I'm looking at it from the whole season perspective, not just the tournament. You're always going to get less talented, not the top teams to go far in a single elimination tournament.

Yeah basketball is a sport that has a greater chance of upsets. A team gets hot from the outside or the better team goes cold. I’m really just talking about the top talent. It’s more spread out in football than basketball IMO.

That would be 8 schools. I think you are overlooking what day it is.
I think you get my point. It’s still early in the process and a smart player would keep his options open until the major dominoes fall. There are 8 more schools that also just finished up.

Niko isn't any worse off than this coach. In the end it will all work out for everyone. Just gotta stay calm for now. As someone stated earlier, let's wait and see before we cast judgement.

Niko at least will be going fishing with about 4-5 million in bait. The Robert Morris coach is going out fishing with college scholarships to offer.

Maybe a soft landing spot for Parker Jefferson and Jacob Ross?

Of the top 150 transfers, thus far 20 have committed. This according to 247 sports. A long ways to go yet.

Yea, I got your meaning. With only 8 schools left, most of the schools have only a handful of scholarships available, if we still call it a scholarship these days. Either way, are 150 players going to fit into the 240 total roster spots for those 16 teams? Let's say each takes 4 players. That takes up 64 players out of 150 (a mythical number) and leaves 86 up for grabs if the best players skewed towards those 16 "top" schools. Minnesota alone needs at least 9 of those remaining players. I guarantee that all the other schools will prevent Minnesota from getting our fair share of the top talent. I think we would be extremely fortunate to pick up 6 transfers. Does anyone here have the actual number of available players currently?

I would agree. I would attribute that to the following:

1) the preponderance of elite basketball preps that play tournaments and schedules with national participation;

2) traveling AAU teams;

3) athletes playing basketball year around;

These types of things give elite basketball players more exposure to a wider audience of scouts and makes scouting more efficient (can see a lot of prospects at a single event). It's hard to pull off those things in football.

Staggering. I can breathe. How far down the list are we shooting for in your opinion?
We are going to be in the top 50 for how much money we have to offer. If for example the top 50 are averaging 5 portal pickups, we should be shooting for players in the top 250 at worst. We are going to get some good players- one way or another.

Basically, 29 percent of all scholarship athletes have entered the pool. Crazy.

They are waiting for the main piece to sign so they can build the rest of the roster around it

We haven't been in the top 50?

Niko said it won’t heat up until next week around the final four. Kids are in school and some are going to want to visit.

Not everyone tampers in this system.

Yes, as much as I despise all that is lost through the new reality, I have to admit it is kind of fun/interesting to see how it all is going to shake out.
Still, would return to the old way in a heartbeat.
