2025 Transfer Portal Watch

Unless Niko didn't want them (very possible), this is disappointing.

Jorgensen in particular I'd figured we'd be adding as a depth big man piece
Guess I don't really see Jorgensen as that big of a deal either way. If his home state wasn't Minnesota I don't think anyone would give much thought to not getting him as there are lots of other very similar players in the portal.

Not convinced they were "kept" as much as they didn't have the option to come here and like Ali. I don't think any were takes for Medved here. Jorgensen is the only one who was a maybe.
Let's remember that the CSU coaching staff didn't really turnover all that much. I don't think this should be all that surprising.

Agreed, but we desperately need size and bodies. He seemed like a decent fit

How about Collin Mulholland, the 6' 10" frosh who just led UT Chat to NIT championship. From Canada but moved to Chaska and played at Holy Family with Boden Kapka and also on MN Heat. Not sure if he will enter portal, but he could.

Not sure how much value there is in speculating about guys who aren't even in the portal. That said looks like Mullholland is tall/skinny and takes more 3s than 2s. Not sure how much value there is in a guy like that.

Crazy stat line from that NIT championship game. 19 points but he did it by going 1 for 2 from 2 point range and 5 for 17 from 3 point range.....that is some horrible efficiency to get those 19 points :)

Can we please open up our thinking a little bit and not just concentrate on guys who played prep ball in Minnesota?

Dude isn’t even in the portal.

There is 1500 people in the portal. The talk will always be about players that either have interest(from us or them), visit, or have a connection to Minnesota.

I'd imagine with the dead period in affect, we may get a commit sometime today or this weekend. But quiet until it is over. The longer Kyan is in the portal the less confident I am (especially if Kansas gets involved). As for Heide, Texas and Indiana are interested but who knows what his role would be.

I get why some fixate on where a player is from because it does probably improve our odds of landing a player if they are from Minnesota and looking to come home.

But I agree that it goes overboard in a lot of cases to the point where some fans seem more concerned about where the kid is from as opposed to whether or not they can actually help the team.

I understand talking about guys we’ve contacted or have reported interest. But the “what about player X? He’s currently on a team and not in the portal but played in MN. He’s a possibility” angle is tiring.

As for Evans. I read somewhere than his agent wants him to take no less than 1.5 million. If that’s the case sign Wes Enis and look elsewhere for another guard. Evans averaged 10 points in the MWC, had a good round 1 in the tournament and then scored 10 points (his average) in round 2. And he turns the ball over to much for my liking. For 1.5 million I’m out.

If you think he can be a starter 1.5 million might just be the going rate according to this story from Yahoo that I saw yesterday. Just ridiculous times we are going through right now in college athletics. In a really short amount of time we have gone from players deserve to get paid to players are getting multi-million dollar contracts and based on the story at least that amount isn't even just reserved for star players.

Can't disagree with what you've said there but I've watched three of Chattanooga's games now and I like the kid, not as an immediate starter but as a rotational player for the time being. He's only a redshirt freshman. I agree that he settles too much for threes and doesn't go inside enough but those were open shots he took in the NIT championship game. He just had a bad shooting night.

lol that whole structure is so ludicrous. It took like 0.02 seconds for it to get taken advantage of 😭. “This isn’t pay to play.” Sure thing sport.

In any case, I think I’ll take a D2 all American for (presumably) cheaper, over a guy who had a good tourney game but may not even be as good as the D2 all American. Then I’m scouring the lower ranks for a dude with a HIGH assist to turnover ratio to try and emulate Hawkins as much as possible 😭😂.

Really? You think coaches are that dumb? I trust Niko and coaches to do their homework. It's not like your fantasy football league where guys join without a clue.
If an experienced college basketball coach, who's been to NCAA tournaments, disagrees with my assessment of a player, does that make him the dummy? :) Asking for a friend.

Well the good news is that there are some 1200-1500 players still available in the portal so we should have some options. :)

If we're grabbing players early mainly because we need size and bodies, that's kind-of a bad sign to me. Like, "I'm desperate" sign. I think it's a little early to be in "desperate to bring bodies in" mode.

Well of course his Agent says and thinks that. The problem here is we are only getting one side of the story and that's the players/agents side. I also would like no less than $1.5 million for my next job FYI.

I think the process will be carried out a bit more this year and most have the goal of being set for summer workouts. More visits and recruiting is being done this time as schools are the ones actually paying salaries for these athletes. Portal is open until April 22nd or 30 days after final game or coaching change.

Creighton changing from Bluejays to Hawkeyes!

They just inked Dix to go with Freeman.

He's a skilled 6'10" who moves better than Kapke. If he develops, he could be a really good player. If doesn't develop, he is still a big body.

I like Mullholland quite a bit too.

Right. And I'd guess if any school he's talking with were in this ballpark, he'd already be signed.

You can hold out, but most schools have finite budgets, and it's risky to wait too long, in my opinion, especially if you are a solid player but not a "sure thing" when moving up a level.
