2025 Transfer Portal Watch

Why does it always have to be cash lol. Like... I know it has to be, but why cant Evans just want to play for Medved and Holloman/Omot want to come home. I miss those days
I agree, I'm just speculating on gut feeling. I really feel we can land Omot, which I would love. A very long 6'8" guard, can shoot, drive, etc. Round him off with Holloman and Evans would be massive

If we get Evans, I'd rather take my chances on Asuma at the point and spend the money on a good big guy.

I think in totality, the Big Ten probably got tougher:

IND - Woodson out, DeVries in
MN - Johnson out, Medved in
IA - Fran out, McCallum in
MD - Willard out, Buzz in

That's an update in coaching, in my opinion.
I do agree on the first 3 - they were all fired (or forced to "retire") - a culling of the herd. But the last one was what the poster was specifically commenting on and that seems less clear to me - I don't think it was a downgrade, but just not an obvious upgrade given that MD was already pretty good.

Maryland Twitter seems super annoyed by this hire. I was surprised to see that. Seems very solid, no? What am I missing?

I agree with that for sure, that is why I added the qualifier "in totality."

I wasn't trying trying to refute you on Maryland. Just adding an additional thought on the entire conference and the new coaches entering the league.

Who says the B1G isn't attractive to good coaches.

Any coaching spot in the B1G is a seat at the table of one of the most powerful basketball conferences in the country. You are coaching against many of the best coaches in the country.

I dunno. If we land Evans.. what do we have after Evans and Asuma? Ideally you have 3 guys rotating at the guard spots and have another (Shinholster) to fall back on in case of injury or a change of pace.

Another Medved player hit the portal, Keshawn Williams. His numbers this year were pretty meh, and the year before he got hurt it looks like. But if you look at his last 2 years at NIU he was a 16 and 18 PPG scorer. Could be a relatively cheap option assuming he wants to play for Medved again after only getting 13 minutes a game lol

Sounded like Len Elmore was running a "hire one of us" campaign, because Maryland alum are sick of getting burned by outsiders.
I saw that, too, but they had been pretty stable up they let Turgeon (he also was hired from TAMU, btw), go after 11 years. Danny Manning was a one-year interim and then Willard for 3. Maybe they always felt Turgeon was an outsider after replacing a legendary coach in Gary Williams, but I don't see a lot of 'burning" going on, tbh, until Willard.

I think Buzz is every bit the coach and more that Willard is. Certainly not a downgrade imo. I just wish he would find a spot and stay there longer than 5-6 years.

He only has the B12 left to complete the P5 cycle - Kansas?
My choice for a Bill Self replacement will be Chris Beard. Truth be told I think you can see the past couple of years the joy doesn't seem to be there in Bill's eyes much.
