2025 Transfer Portal Watch

I’m not as high on Holloman as others. Don’t get me wrong, he was a good bench player for an elite eight team, but he’s been very inconsistent throughout his career. He’s also a streaky shooter. I’m guessing he’s looking for a guaranteed starting PG spot and a significant pay bump.

That would be surprising with Richardson, some mock drafts have him in the top ten
Makes zero sense. They play 4 guards and 1-2 of them are leaving. The guards log the most minutes on the team. Would be shocked if he Hollomon left under any circumstance.
1. Maybe to get another perspective and set of coach's eyes on his development.
2. MSU fans can be pretty brutal towards him.

He went from shooting 47% (43% 3PT) his sophomore year in 19 minutes per game...to shooting 37% (33% 3PT) this year in 23 minutes per game. I wonder what caused the drop. He did improve his FT% from 80 to 85%.

I don't care who Medved recruits, as long as he builds a roster. Right now, everyone's nitpicking over which player is the better pick, when the truth is, we don't have any better resources than the other teams in our league. Somehow, people think a new coach will magically reverse the course of our basketball program, despite its long history of struggles. But that's not how it works. Progress doesn't happen overnight—it takes years to build success. At the moment, we don't even have enough players to form a first string. Let's focus on getting another player for the 5th or 6th spot, and then we can start aiming to poach a top-tier talent. For now, it's day 8 of the transfer portal.
I respectfully disagree. In the current portal era, a team CAN effectively build a successful NCAA Tournament caliber team in a short time. The next month or two will seem like an eternity to me. Historically through recruiting HS athletes it has taken years to develop and build prolonged success. Now it takes a year to two. The dominoes in roster building can fall very quickly if coach gets a great portal commit, and then another guy commits because the first guy did-they were friends/AAU etc., and so on. MN will have more re$ources. I am not expecting Niko to build an NCAA playoff team in year one, but it's possible. More concerned about how we play, defend, how we recruit and use portal, the trajectory of the program.
Let's all keep the GH positive passion alive, and support the team of coaches that have all the facts in real time. They are evaluating Gopher needs by position and fit into the MN culture every day. I trust them.

Maybe the poster was speaking of a "Successful Culture" which imo I believe takes more time than just a quick one year fix.

Tre can run an offense

He played more off the ball.. Fears was back ran point when they were both on the court. Tre played 4 minutes a game more this year than last but took twice as many shots this year… more catch and shoot threes.. almost doubled his threes that is not his game.. I think his 3 point shooting percentage is somewhere between this year and last year…

Tre can run an offense and if you are open you will get the ball and he is a very good defender…

The only priority of coach Medvev is to field a team with more than three players.

Thanks for the info and insight!

Likely unrealistic, but I'd take both Holloman and Evans. I'd promise them they would be the starting backcourt duo. Play 30+ minutes each per game. Not much length, but great quickness, great defense, generally good shooting, and veteran floor leaders who both shoot FTs at a great percentage.

Tre has a bit of edge to his game that I think would be welcome here. Every team needs a guy like that.

You can win Big Ten games with those two as your starting guards.

Asuma would be the third guard and play 20+ minutes off the bench and push these two to start.

Supposedly some time in April but I haven't heard a firm date.
Monday, did not know that was in addition to NIL, no wonder kids want to stay around a bit longer, really going to become the wild wild west.

If Judge Claudia Wilken approves the settlement as expected, then for the first time, schools will be allowed to share TV, ticket and other revenue to the tune of around $20.5 million per year per institution with their athletes. That will be in addition to the payments already allowed from third parties that are turning college players into millionaires.

With guys leaving Michigan St., it makes me wonder if Izzo let them know ahead of time that he is going to retire.
It feels that way- he was crying after the game where they got into the Elite Eight- it felt like the farewell tour. The whole game has changed at this point and I would think some of the joy of it is gone.

Just googled appears not… but his quotes could be misleading.

Interesting, things ramping up.

I have to think we are very close to landing BJ Omot.

On the other hand, would love both Evans and Holloman, I just don't know if we have the cash for either. Prove me wrong Niko, let's go!

Did you think Maryland wasn't tough this year?

I think in totality, the Big Ten probably got tougher:

IND - Woodson out, DeVries in
MN - Johnson out, Medved in
IA - Fran out, McCallum in
MD - Willard out, Buzz in

That's an upgrade in coaching, in my opinion.

Those are all good coaches.

Why does it always have to be cash lol. Like... I know it has to be, but why cant Evans just want to play for Medved and Holloman/Omot want to come home. I miss those days
