2025 Transfer Portal Watch

I didn’t pay any attention to him this year. Do you (or anyone else) know if his lack of playing time was an issue with skill, motivation, opportunity, or something else?
Just from what I heard he didn't really fit in and they didn't have high expectations going forward....but that's jsut internet chatter I can't find anymore

From the Wisconsin writers, he had a difficult conversation with staff and he had a spot to come back to, but chose to go another direction.

Roster development is crazy and if you can't prove yourself in the first 1-2 years you will be up against it. If he wants to see the floor he is going to have to likely go down a level and prove it. Possibly come in as a 10th-12th person on a Power roster and prove it.

Power teams are going to give HS kids 1-2 years to prove it or replace their spot through the transfer portal.

Obviously hard to say but Tonje/Blackwell/Klesmit/McGee is a pretty solid backcourt group, tough to crack that. Little surprised Janicki got more time than him but he played well. As noted in other threads, love Asuma but guessing he would not have seen substantial playing time behind those 4.
Agree, he"s more of a scorer combo guard than a pg, I could see him playing with Assuma. He's got 4 years of eligibility, I'd take him.

Sure, and Crowl didn't contribute very much as a Freshman. His breakout year was during his Sophomore season. I'm hopeful Grove has a similar trajectory. Wisconsin also has a long history of developing players into contributors by their Sophomore seasons, MN not so much.
Didn’t Crowl redshirt?

He had a tremendous opportunity when Hepburn bolted and McGee the only true PG returning. Wisconsin has played freshmen PGs in the past, including Hepburn. Freitag just wasn’t ready to contribute more than the guys who did get on the court.

Top 150s Mister Dean, Doctor Bradley, Bubu Benjamin all still available.
Rakease Passmore as well. Bet he gets the needle sometimes.

We are too quiet.
We're pretty clearly after Omot and have reached out to a number of guys. Idk what you're expecting but most schools in the Big Ten have yet to take in a transfer. Only Purdue, Michigan, UCLA, Ohio State, Indiana and Iowa have commits. The panic is....embarrassing and lacks obvious context. Are Hoosier fans pooping their panties because they only have the coaches kid on the roster? I don't think so.

I look to the NCAA's forward-thinking, visionary leadership to help guide a better way forward for all involved. 🙄💩
Why does everyone blame the NCAA as they don’t have control over anything? Every other professional organization is perfect but NCAA is still best collegiate body we have.

Here's why it's quiet. I think programs and coaches are doing due diligence to find the right fit because it's a bit of a crapshoot.

I tend to agree with Ryan

Unrestricted free agency for every player every year is a horrible and unsustainable system.

Seeing more players going into the portal but saying they are leaving open the possibility to come back which translates to "pay me more money and I will come back....don't and I'm gone to the highest bidder."

Tough to fault players for trying to squeeze everything they can out of this messed up college landscape but it absolutely sucks for the game and the fans.

I thought I read on here somewhere (hard to remember which thread) that we could be waiting for the revenue sharing money to be a done deal? Anyone know of a timeline for when that is supposed to happen? It seems like the Big Ten would want to make that happen pretty quickly here so all the big ten teams can start making offers to the top talent in the portal.

Supposedly some time in April but I haven't heard a firm date.

Agreed. There really isn't a good argument for having a 7th, 8th guy from a league like the Patriot League to have an agent. I'm paraphrasing from something I saw yesterday. This year's tournament was missing upsets and that's most of what makes it great. It's still been fun but when a team like St. Peter's beats teams they're not supposed to, it grips people's attention. Having four #1 seeds in the final four is sort of meh. (Although in my pool, that could win me some 💰)

It is tough to fault the players it’s a flawed system. These kids trying to get more money end up making less at the next school because they find out nobody wants them for that price.
