2025 Minnesota High School Football Thread

Nice evening of football tomorrow. Get to watch a future Gopher in action at 4 and then at 7 there is a great chance the 6A title game is a shootout with the teams playing in it.

Only question is will Edina and Moorhead top the combined 95 points scored from their first matchup?

Fair share isn’t a thing anymore and hasnt been since 2018 Janus case

Continuing contract teachers can be gotten rid of. It just doesn’t happen very often because the time and work it takes.
Non union members are entitled to the same process to be let go if they have continuing contract status
I know tons of people in management in the private sector and it's extremely hard to get rid of people there too. It's not unique to education or government jobs. Everyone is afraid of getting sued.

Prep Bowl Matchups

9 Man: Hills Beaver Creek vs Hillcrest Lutheran
1A: Minneota vs Breckenridge
2A: Jackson County Central vs Goodhue
3A: Waseca vs Annadale
4A: Orono vs Kasson Mantorville
5A: Chanhassen vs Spring Lake Park
6A: Edina vs Moorhead

State Champion Predictions:
Hills Beaver Creek
Minneota
Jackson County Central
Annadale
Orono
Chanhassen
Edina

1A and 2A games could be blowouts.
Spring Lake Park is interesting. Blue Collar community, independent school district. They are a bring the lunch box program.

I’ve heard some BIG names for Wayzata including the names of 5 sitting 6a head coaches having interest.

But every single person I’ve talked to has said Lombardi is most likely

I think it’ll be slightly lower scoring and Edina will win.
But I have no idea

Edina and Moorhead play each other in the Prep Bowl and also the boys hockey season opener tonight. Not sure about Moorhead, but I know Edina has 3-4 major contributors on the football team that play hockey as well. What a night for those two schools.

the ending of this orono-kasson game makes me physically ill thinking about it from a coaching standpoint

Wow....4th and 2 for Kasson.....QB rolls out and easily could have picked up the first down but elects to throw it and it goes incomplete to let Orono kneel it out for the victory. That play is going to haunt that QB....

Still needed a TD and no guarantees they would have gotten it had he not thrown it but he could have easily picked up the first down and quite a bit more if he had just kept running.

not to mention his own guy tips it away from the more open WR who gets under it.

That they got the ball with that much time left (all the more reason of why are we taking the shot play and not coaching your QB that its first down THEN TD not look for the shot play first) after some pretty brain dead playcalling from Orono. Oof there's going to be lots of regrets coupled with some Orono coaches breathing sighs of relief

Two receivers in one spot and the wrong one got his hand on the ball. 21-0 nothing at half. 21-14 final. Orono is 4A State Champs at 9-3. Losses to Marshall (Avenged), Byron, and Delano.

That was an easy first down but QB elected for a low percentage deep ball. It will indeed haunt.

Voss is clearly the best athlete on the field but he is absolutely gassed. It’s good to see him fight through to get his team a chip but it’s clear he’s also taking off some of the snaps.

Shows just how dominant JCC was when they can turn it over 6 times and still win 20-15. Similar to Michigan/Northwestern game last weekend.

You shouldn’t be able to win when you lose turnover battle by that much.

One of my wishes for broadcasters: Stop talking about great stiff arms and how good players are at finishing off runs when it's glaringly obvious the defender has no interest in making a tackle and is instead focusing all his energy on trying to rip the ball loose. Instead, call out the defender for choosing that path.
