Basically all the projections point to the Mayo Bowl now. Virginia Tech looks like the most common opponent.....but I've also seen NC State, Duke, and Louisville. Hoping for one of the two latter teams....and the opportunity to play a power conference teams with a record better than ours in a bowl game for a change.
AgreeSame. But it would be better than almost any ACC matchup outside of Louisville.
Only good thing about SMU potentially getting snubbed is that it would deepen the potential opponent pool for the Mayo Bowl.
I'm probably alone but that would be great for me as my family has a lot of Mizzou connections. Lots of side bets.Missouri is about the only SEC matchup that I would find boring.

Virginia Tech would be interesting, never played them. Duke would be a first meeting also. The Gophers played NC St. once in a 2000 bowl game.Sunday AM projections:
CBS (Palm): Mayo vs. Duke (he has Bama in the playoff BTW)
Action Network (McMurphy): Mayo vs. VT (SMU in playoff, Mich vs. Bama in Reliaquest)
247: Mayo vs. NC St (SMU in playoff, Bama vs. Illinois in Citrus)
Yep, the Gophers played in Micron PC Bowl where most fans went "the what bowl?" when announced. The tech bubble bursting was in full swing but this tech industry sponsor was still alive and breathing for the bowl. Gophers lost to NC State 38-30 for that one.Virginia Tech would be interesting, never played them. Duke would be a first meeting also. The Gophers played NC St. once in a 2000 bowl game.

Yes, I remember that bowl. It was in Miami, not many people there. It was a fairly big step down for the previous year's trip the the Sun Bowl against Oregon. Yes, Oregon and Minnesota were pretty much at the same level 25 years ago.Yep, the Gophers played in Micron PC Bowl where most fans went "the what bowl?" when announced. I remember Mason's post game interview where he shrugged and basically went, "oh well."Yep, the Gophers played in Micron PC Bowl where most fans went "the what bowl?" when announced. Yep. This was really the first indication we got of Mase's somewhat on-off love affair as Minnesota's coach. Cooper had just been fired from the Buckeyes and Mase was waiting for the call. Good times.I remember Mason's post game interview where he shrugged and basically went, "oh well."
If I remember we were up at half and then we couldn’t stop Philip Rivers and Koren Robinson in the second half.I remember Mason's post game interview where he shrugged and basically went, "oh well."
I was at the game—it was a misty night at a largely empty stadium. Tellis Redmond ran wild in the first half and, if memory serves, we were leading 21-0 and driving. Perhaps we had a fourth & short and we settled for a field goal. This seemed to have angered the football gods and NCSU came roaring back. I recall thinking at the time it was much like the ‘89 Ohio State game. All of this may be wrong because the games of nightmare blown Minnesota leads tend to blend into a mobius strip of gridiron disaster outtakes. If I remember we were up at half and then we couldn’t stop Philip Rivers and Koren Robinson in the second half.

I was there as well. We were soaking wet but having a great time. Then the bottom fell out in typical Mase fashion.I was at the game—it was a misty night at a largely empty stadium. When do we know for sure?
He did fire the strength and conditioning coach. Must have been his faulty that we lost.I remember Mason's post game interview where he shrugged and basically went, "oh well."
Strength and conditioning coach's always seem on the clock for a bad season / injuries occur and they get the blame. He did fire the strength and conditioning coach. Must have been his faulty that we lost.
Felt bad that the 2000 MicronPC Bowl was Ray Christensen's last as a Gopher announcer. Would have been nice to send him off with a win.I was at the game—it was a misty night at a largely empty stadium. Oh man just out of computer nostalgia I would totally have loved some MicroPC Bowl gear nowFelt bad that the 2000 MicronPC Bowl was Ray Christensen's last as a Gopher announcer. Would have been nice to send him off with a win.
On a happier note our win at Columbus in 2000 gave him a Gopher win in every Big Ten stadium. Crazy: Ray’s first year announcing Gopher football was 1950–we won at OSU in 1949 and not again until 2000.Felt bad that the 2000 MicronPC Bowl was Ray Christensen's last as a Gopher announcer. That sounds bad and it is bad. But from 1950-1971 the gophers played in Columbus just twiceOn a happier note our win at Columbus in 2000 gave him a Gopher win in every Big Ten stadium. Crazy: Ray’s first year announcing Gopher football was 1950–we won at OSU in 1949 and not again until 2000.
