2024-25 Wild Season

Much like soccer, a tie is a very disatisfying result after investing 2.5 hours watching at home or spending $100 on a ticket.

It's easy to see why you find 3-on-3 to be gimmicky but damn if I don't find it to be a ton of fun...and I want a result.

I think a vast majority of the hockey purists would agree with you, though.
I don’t agree and don’t think “purists” agree with that - ties suck. I just wish they would make a rule that you cannot have possession of the puck, then purposely retreat from the attacking zone all the way over the center red line. I think that should be a turnover given to the other team behind their own net with the defenders on their side of the red line. It would take 5 seconds to setup and we would stop seeing all the circling.

Meh, better than playoff spots being determined by an arcade game
It’s not an arcade game. It’s still hockey. But they should try to figure a way to eliminate all the circling.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion and I understand where you are coming from.

I like that idea Jake. Remember when 3 on 3 first came about. It was race horse hockey. But now like you mentioned it has slowed down and your idea would definitely pick up the pace again

You could also go back to 4 on 4. That would help make it less arcade-y. But also make it more difficult to score, leading to more shootouts. And those totally blow.

In the shootout, I would add a defending chaser that starts at the far blue line - both players start when the whistle blows. Both players start at a standstill. No skating starts. That would eliminate these ridiculous moves that are nothing like anything you would ever see in a game. It would add strategy to who you choose to shoot and who the other team chooses to chase with.

That or a time limit to a shootout attempt. But I hear ya, I'm not a fan of slow motion attempts

They would never do my idea of a chaser, because it would lead to collisions. Your idea is the only viable idea. It still wouldn't be anything like real hockey. :(

I like that the OT/SO has a winner, but the NHL should go to a 3 point system. Encourage the regulation win.

I absolutely love it. I despise shootouts. I'm old school too but I've grown to love 3 on 3. When you are at the X during 3 on 3 it's usually pretty damn exciting
Yes, Shootouts suck.

One season in beer league championship game we scored with like 30 seconds left to tie it, so shootout. The other teams goalie was a chick about 5' 100lbs, she didn't have a chance in shootout. We won obviously but I felt so bad for her.

No
Let them set up a play.

1. Kirill Kaprizov, Wild

The fact that Kaprizov continues to lead this race shouldn't come as much of a surprise given how critical he's been to Minnesota's early success. The 27-year-old winger averaged 44 goals and 49 assists over the previous three seasons, but he's raised his game to new heights in 2024-25.

Kaprizov is on track for 53 tallies and 76 helpers over a 79-game pace, and that 129-point total would shatter his career-best output of 108 from 2021-22. He leads the NHL in points per game and even-strength points (30), and he's tied for second in even-strength goals with 13. The Russian also ranks third among the league's forwards in average ice time. He's tied for second in the NHL with nine goals since our last edition.

But it's not just about his gaudy totals. Kaprizov has at least five more goals, 10 more assists, and 15 more points than any of his teammates. He's truly doing the heavy lifting offensively for a Minnesota squad that's stormed out of the gate to a league-best .760 points percentage.

I can’t stay up for these west coast games but tuning out up 3-0 I’m feeling pretty good about waking up to another Wild Win. Keep the train rolling!

Another dominate win last night. Obviously will be tougher today with LA. Unfortunately Erickson-Ek has been put on IR. Only good thing with injuries are the young guys are getting valuable playing experience

He doesn't show up often in the scoring column but I thought Khusnutdinov was fantastic last night once again.

Agree. He has some Kaprizov in him, is what I see with small sample size and obviously not quite as good.

Wild had their chances tonight but no dice. Streak ends at 5 so now start another

Pretty good defensive opponent - and zero cash-ins on some Grade A and A- chances. Boldy and Foligno could have changed the trajectory of the game early.

Exactly. One of those go in and who knows. They have a Utah team tomorrow night who has win their last 3 of 4

Wild give up 3 in the third only to have Rossi tie it with 43 seconds left then win it in a shootout 5-4. That third and overtime was fun to watch

Defensive breakdowns are beginning to become concerning. But missing 3 top players might do that. Great resilience. Getting out of there with any points at all was a coup. Boldy is in a funk. Maybe the shootout winner will get him back on track.

Merrill and Bogo struggled on the kill. Merrill just isn't very good. Any one know when Brodin will be back?

Yeah. I meant to mention 4 had a bad game. Allowing dude to just walk in from the right side and shoot on a wide open Gus was terrible. Even the chick commentator called him out.

Gus made a game saving save with 1.3 seconds left. Man he's a different dude from last year. Yes not his best game but the team owed him a bailout

That woulda been a bad loss. But they found a way to pull it out

I keep saying, a great way to keep a great record, win the game after you lose a game.

We do need to get healthy though

It's a lot of fun being good in December.

It's a whole lot more fun being good in April/May. Ride that wave while it lasts, it doesn't come around that often!!

All I can say is I'm glad I missed that one. Ouch
