2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

With Pahlsson officially out until at least after the break, I'll predict the Gophers will go about 6-3-1 or 5-3-2 in the next 10.

I could see that given we at times struggle with ND and with big series against MI and MI St. Think we sweep BSU and Alaska so I'd expect us to be a little better than 2-3-1 or 1-3-2 against the rest though. Expecting splits vs MI and MI St but an awful lot can change from a health standpoint between now and then for both teams.

#3/T-3 Gophers (9-1-0) vs. BSU (4-5-0)
Fox9+ both games

This will be an interesting one... Thursday game so not expecting a huge crowd but they did do BOGO tickets.

Injuries are a major issue. Nick Michel may play his first D1 game(s), otherwise you will have Begley as 12F and Rud as 7D. I think you'll have Michel as 12F and Begley as 13F/7D flex.

Another huge effort shift by Michel a few shifts after his first point

I genuinely have no idea how this team, especially the goaltending, will look against good teams

Overall pretty solid performance except Airey looked bad. I’m ok with the one night each rotation for now, but unless things change Souliere is the guy come playoff time.

Michel actually looked like he fit in out there. Pleasantly surprised.

I mean really the 3rd goal is the only one I think Airey could’ve been better on. First is traffic and second was a great move on a breakaway. He wasn’t great but also wasnt terrible. Souliere has been better so far though absolutely agree

There is currently ONE Gopher opponent out of nine from Oct and Nov over 0.500. PSU at 4-3. Wow.

He wasn't terrible but he was bad. I'm not writing him off as I think he had played pretty well prior to tonight after his rough night in Duluth. Neither of the first two goals were bad goals but he needs to be able to make tough saves now and then. He gives up too many big rebounds for my liking.

Again I'm not suggesting benching him or anything, I'm good with the one night apiece rotation for now.

Yeah the schedule has not been strong so far. Who are the nine you are counting? I count 7 opponents (8 if you include the exhibition against St. Cloud). Keep in mind, the Gophers have contributed to these teams being below .500. That's with the exception of Omaha of course. And now that OT loss looks worse than it did at the time. Anyway, it's too early in the season IMHO to be looking at records of opponents with too much emphasis. And that's because the Gophs have played a role in those opponents being where they are. Like you, I will be very interested to see how we fare against the Michigans and Michigan States of the world.

The nine Oct/Nov opponents include the remaining Nov series: Notre Dame and Alaska.

Now zero teams over 0.500 I think.

Just kidding now AFA won and went over 0.500

It’s early. You take out 2 losses to mn and umd is now.500, PSU is over, Wisconsin is close as is St Thomas. BU is .500 right now and looks horrible defensively. BCs goalie got ejected for throwing a punch. UND is now.500. We’re winning games and the teams we beat look middle of the road in their conference. Gotta win those ones and rack up points and pwr comps while they get healthier

PSU is not over right now. BU has played an absolutely insane schedule. UND is a bit of a trainwreck but no one is complaining (but also a hard schedule). No matter how you spin in, this has been a crazy weak schedule for the Gophers. But that's not their fault and they've done what they had to do with it. It just gives me pause, like the Covid year they ran through the Big Ten at the start. It's so hard to know where they stand without high quality non conf opponents.

the schedule is weak. but its also super early. BU will be good. UND should be fine (though it would be hilarious if not). The Gopher opponents haven't had enough additional games to really rack up wins so it's hard to what to make of them all (which is why I said if you subtract the Gopher games, multiple are above or around .500). None of Denver's opponents are over .500 either and in fact have a record of 8-32-4 (.227) prior to UND (who makes it still a paltry 13-37-4; .278) but Denver looks like a wagon again. MNs are 27-41-3 (.401).

The Gophs look really good but absolutely have some questions like every team does this time of year. Obviously bigger tests are coming but have to be happy with where they've positioned themselves as you look at angles for the postseason where the lowest wins of any 1 seed has been 24 or 25 the last 3 years.

The fact is you never know what kind of team you will be playing when you schedule them years in advance. Omaha was a NCAA tourney team last year, Bemidji won the CCHA last year, who would have guessed that Duluth would be this bad this year? UW was an NCAA team last year, Alaska was in the mix for the NCAA's last year. Mercyhurst is the one you knew would be a true cupcake. The bottom line is just win and you will be fine. But I guess some people just try to find something to complain about all the time.

It's mental hedging in case they get worked by the Michigan schools. No one else on the schedule worries me, even though they'll lose some games because that's college hockey.

If you dream of a 30 win season, this might be the best chance for a decade (with the extra two games).

Getting shut out by fucking Bemidji State. Another fine performance from our boys in maroon and gold.😁👍

Trying to figure out who thought it was a good idea to bus to Bemidji for one game following a tough trip to Madison the week before. If we’re keen on playing non-conference road games how about Denver? BC? BU?

BSU won tonight’s game by playing much better in the third period of Thursday’s game than in the first two periods. The Beavers played more confidently from the start in the second game and they capitalized on Gopher mistakes. Then it became a typical Omaha/Mankato/now BSU game when we fall behind; we dominate the game; the opposing goalie gets hot—and our sticks get tight.

We didn’t lose to some doormat, they’re a solid team. And we played well. You drool ove BC and they lost to UCONN on Friday. Were they exposed?
Best goalie in the country got the boot
