10-1 non-conference, 6-14 B1G = a winning season and year 4.
They aren’t getting anywhere near those numbers with this current roster.

Correct. We are trying to host a Multi team event. Which I believe precludes us from participating…. But I would think your more knowledgeable in that department.
Possible, but I would guess no. My hunch is Ben isn't thinking about long-term scheduling at this point.Do you expect a home and home to be added with the Mississippi State series finishing up last season?
As always I appreciate your knowledge of these matters.Correct.
Can't be in both a traditional "bracketed" exempt tournament and a MTE. One or the other.
If we're going to be in one, I'd prefer it be one of those where it's 4-team round-robin with the Gophers hosting all the games. Three straight nights of doubleheaders, presumably with at least 2 of the other 3 teams being cupcakes. I like those because fans get "free" basketball (games not involving the Gophers).
Amen.As always I appreciate your knowledge of these matters.
I think it’s an opportunity to sell the Gophers to other teams. If portal recruiting is the new normal, giving great experiences to basketball players only helps us.
Ben's not buying green bananas at this point.Possible, but I would guess no. My hunch is Ben isn't thinking about long-term scheduling at this point.
I heard trying to host their own. Not confirmed yet. No guarantees they will get three other teams to participate. So the Gophers are hosting their own MTE instead of Vegas? If I am reading Rothstein correctly…
Hopefully St Bonaventure isn't hosting one too...I heard trying to host their own. Not confirmed yet. No guarantees they will get three other teams to participate.
You are right; you are guessing.I'm guessing we were uninvited.
Correct.

Tubby did one of those, I think in his second season. I remember Bowling Green was in it.
This is just pathetic. Dropping out of the Vegas event for Ball State and USC-Upstate?MTE nets Ball State & USC-Upstate for Gophers.
I’m surprised there’s not a third game. This opens up possibility Gophers will only play 30 instead of max of 31.
Perhaps a third game connected to it at a neutral site vs. (presumably) a good opponent?
Ditching a real tournament for this?MTE nets Ball State & USC-Upstate for Gophers.

Recruiting the portal.Ditching a real tournament for this?
Maybe. No chance 6-14 keeps the job unless there is some obviously compelling reason to believe there is growth in the program. Non con means nothing if it’s 300 plus teams.
I don't think so. 10-1 against a pathetic cupcake non-conference schedule means going 12-8 to get in and 10-10 in the B1G to get anywhere near the bubble. 8-12 would not be close.Maybe.
10-1 8-12 would have this team at 18-13 and near the bubble
16-15 is only 2 games away from that
PS
11-20 (3-17) for a final record
I don’t even need to see the roster or the schedule.
That was pretty sad, but at least Tubby was in year 1 and we still played UVa and Louisville. As was Georgia St & Concordia-St Paul, November 2008. Gophers opened up with Concordia on a Friday night, meaning Bowling Green took on Georgia St in a late afternoon neutral game at the Barn.
I remember counting less than 100 attendees for that contest at tip-off. Sort of a prelude to 2020-2021 (and beyond).
Year 2 for Tubby. And this was pre-Tony Bennett Virginia. They finished 10-18 overall, 4-12 in the ACC.That was pretty sad, but at least Tubby was in year 1 and we still played UVa and Louisville.
True on both counts. Though we didn't get to pick the UVa game. If we still end up with 2 power 6 non-conference games, I'll be pleasantly surprised. I expect a Big East game and that's it at this point.Year 2 for Tubby. And this was pre-Tony Bennett Virginia. They finished 10-18 overall, 4-12 in the ACC.
Al Nolen went off vs. Louisville in Arizona. Rick P's Cardinals had no answer for Al driving to the bucket. That was pretty sad, but at least Tubby was in year 1 and we still played UVa and Louisville.
Meh. If you look at 8-10 win big ten teams the past 5 years or so they’re all near the bubble regardless of their non conference scheduleI don't think so. 10-1 against a pathetic cupcake non-conference schedule means going 12-8 to get in and 10-10 in the B1G to get anywhere near the bubble. 8-12 would not be close.
I couldn't help myself, so I did a little research.Meh. If you look at 8-10 big ten teams the past 5 years or so they’re all near the bubble regardless of their non conference schedule
