2021 Other Bowl Games Thread

I'll ask it again because I still don't know how it happened, but how the hell did we lose to Iowa? Their offense remains embarrassingly inept.
A couple of blown coverages and then 1 incredibly bad tackling effort. Otherwise MN more or less outplayed them most of the game. And as Ewert said, Mike Sanford.

ESPN is going to play themselves.
They’re talking about the SEC constantly in the Notre dame vs ok state game
They talk about it during every random bowl game:
I am not going to watch national championship game. I already watched Alabama kill Georgia and suspect they’ll do it again.

the group that decides the future of the playoff should refuse to sell it to one network. Bad for the brand that is college football:

Well, the SEC dominated in their semis. Kentucky is leading. Arkansas is leading. I'd say the SEC deserves some admiration.
ESPN has every right to hawk their product. I’m not sure they are so smart long term in doing that

Very similar to about 20-25 years ago when Woods was the best golfer. I remember a Home Run Derby and Chris Berman made the comment on one of them "That's Tiger Woods like".

Anything to sell the bell cow. $$$$$

Just checking while loading the car and preparing to head south: is anybody surprised Iowa and Penn state are losing? Nothing at QB! (We have to get better play at QB, I don't care how nice a guy Morgan is.)
Penn state playing today is just galling - that should have been the gophers.
Ohio state better not choke.
See you on the tee in two days.

They keep acting like everyone is saying the SEC sucks or something. No one has said they aren't the best conference at the top. But the rest of that conference is overrated and it's ridiculous how much love they keep getting. Arkansas should win this game, Penn St is the 8th best team in the BT and had no business jumping over 3 teams to get into it.

Clifford has been awful today.

Looks like the Big Ten picked the wrong teams for the bowl games. The Gophers would have played both Arkansas and Kentucky better than their counterparts. Next year let the Gophers take care of business and you can leave the pansies for some of these other teams....

Yeah. And golf has recovered a bit now, but if all you sell is tiger woods and he disappears….

I honestly wouldn’t mind if the rest of the Power 5 told the SEC we are just going to play in our contracted bowls. Not going to play in the playoff. The SEC can have a 4 team playoff with themselves. They’re probably the best teams most years.

I don’t watch gopher football because I think they’re going to win a national championship. That’s not what built the sport.

Regional championships have always been more important than national championships in the sport. The BCS>the playoff

if the playoff expands it should do it with conference champions getting auto bids or it will kill the sport

Can anyone explain why James Franklin is considered one of the most sought after and very best college coaches? His teams underachieve their considerable talent many seasons. Penn State is a .500 team the last 2 years.

1) Michigan
2) Ohio state

3-7) Michigan state, Purdue, wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn state, Iowa

I would put them:
Michigan state
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Purdue
Penn state
Iowa

The conference matched them:
Michigan state
Iowa
Penn state
Purdue
Wisconsin
Minnesota

Minnesota asked for Phoenix when they didn’t get Tampa

Was Petras arguing a fumble-rooskie on the 4th down failure?

Until this year he was the only coach to win the big ten other than Ohio state’s once tressels’ sanctions came off the books

I too think he is a little overrated. If you switch fleck and Franklin I think penn state is better than Minnesota is worse

There are a number of people in the national media and our own BIG brass (unfortunately) that want Penn State to be good. They bend themselves into a pretzel trying to will it to happen. With how much they get hyped, they almost belong in the SEC themselves.

Bottom line is, they recruit higher end talent, similar to Nebraska, yet they underperform year in and year out. Their offense is attrocious. Agree they have no business being in this bowl.

It certainly appeared so. Not sure what there was to argue - he fumbled the snap and was laying on the ground. Did he think he could roll to a first down?

I keep flipping back and forth between Iowa and PSU hoping that one of them will eventually stop imploding (I will always root for any B1G team against any SEC team, even if it is IA or WI) - finally had to turn the TV off. Nauseating.....

Agree 100%.

It's really stupid that the Outback Bowl and Citrus Bowl are on at the same time. Why not shift one to 3:00 or 3:30 so there are two afternoon games rather than three early games?

Anyone got any bets going? I've got ND and Iowa straight up to win.

I'm continuing with the worst two day betting stretch in memory. Got over 24 2nd half for PSU/Arkansas and over 20.5 2nd half for Iowa/Kentucky.

I wouldn't be surprised to lose both.

Morgan is a better QB than what Penn State and Iowa have.

I think with KC returning....Morgan will look more like he did in 2019.

Yessir.
  • Trying to close out a couple 4-leg parlays: need Arkansas -1 (looks good) on the one card and Kentucky -3 (getting dicey now) on the other.
  • ND - OSU over 46.5 already hit. Yay.
  • Parlay with ND-OSU over and Arkansas-PSU under 43.5 about to hit. Yay.

Rose Bowl has exclusive rights to be the only game playing during their time slot.
