2020 Spring Practice Thread

Tanner was reportedly the most sharp, had the best footwork, more confident and vocal than last Spring, etc.

ZA rusty, having missed so much time. Missed some throws he should have made.

Clark - Strongest arm on the team. His reps were with 3rd string OL, no time to throw.

Kramer - Reps with 3rd string OL, no time to throw.

No word on spiral quality.
This is wayyyyy early take. Might be an awful take.

That's OK, that's what message boards are for:

if Clark or Kramer are named the back-up, ZA transfers out.

That's just an OL drill, for them to work on gap-scheme double-block footwork. DL giving less than full resistance.

But good to see the big man out there, working!

Fleck runs fantastic practices. Always uptempo. Looks like controlled chaos but in reality it is tightly managed and run like clockwork.

Bummed I missed today (work trip) but will for sure be at the rest and do reports.

It seems to me that they practice harder than they play.

The way that they develop the teamwork concept that Mariano Sori-Marin is talking about is commendable. The bond of a well orchestrated team is strong.

All I can say is the late Herb Brooks practiced the team hard to almost superhuman conditioning. In the end, Team USA was a well oiled machine. The end result is the Gold Medal.

There was reportedly a huge gap from ZA to the other two. Keep in mind, the info is coming from different sources.

There’s even a lengthy report from a Nebraska fan (a very reasonable one) who attended practice, and claims that Zack has a much better arm, but he understands that Morgan is likely the better overall QB. He commented on a lot of players. It’s definitely worth a read.

Excellent, thank you! Ate that up

I could definitely see it. Of course, practice only shows so much. ZA hasn't thrown a ball in a game in over a year, and Clark and Kramer had very limited reps. Hopefully the non-conference slate this year doesn't have as many tight games as last year's did and we can see the second team get some reps.

I’m following along with a spring practice thread, elsewhere. So far, two different people have said Ky Thomas looks like the best RB in practice.

“....Ky Thomas looked like the best runningback today imo. The defense struggled to wrap him up all day and he’s only been D1 football for a couple of weeks....”

Good stuff, thanks. Keep the updates coming!

Oh...man. The adults dressing as 12 year old thing grates. Can’t help but chuckle and remember Spoofin’s it’s what the kids like. I pray he succeeds...WKU fans commented on his sunglass rotation and high water pants

Good reports on the defensive line and the new coach. Coach seems like a keeper and Mafe and Esezi are going to be a handful.

Hell, I’ll take it over ill-fitting mom jeans or Harbaugh’s sloppy khakis.

Yeah...Burns isn’t happy that I posted those quotes, so I won’t be doing it anymore. He threatened me with the “ban hammer.” He doesn’t know my user ID over there, but I understand his point.

If one wants to be needlessly pretentious there is a risk the bar is higher for demonstrating competence before the knives come out. I’m sure there are some that take issue with Belichick’s casual barnyard attire but he’s good at what he does and he’s basically said **** it all along.

I thought the whole deal was he gives early intel or recruiting over there. Now they’re putting an embargo on open practice opinions? How does Burns get access anyways with all the practice talk - wasn’t privacy and closed practices a hot button issue? Football spies wondering what MN is up to is a thing.

He used the phrase, “behind the paywall,” so I guess that would include everything posted there by readers. Someone sent him screenshots. His site, his rules.

I don’t think he has access to closed practices.

He is the decaffeinated version of Fleck. Basically the same message just in a more understated way.
Almost everyone in the known universe is more understated than PJ.

They are in the business of making the impossible possible.

Seriously...who cares what the coach wears? Kyle Shanahan does the flatbill hat. Seems like he is doing pretty well.

Also, if you're in your 30s or 40s and in shape, athletic chic (high-end workout wear like Lulu Lemon or Rhone) is the look. The stuff's comfy as hell. The sweatpant game has changed. PJ and Sanford are just looking good, feeling good

The coach? We’re all peacocks in our own ways but the flat billed hats aren't going to age well.

I just googled images of Mike Sanford. Which hat style are we getting worked up about? I see mostly visors with appropriately curved bills, and not a single Shanahan style cap. All the cool coaches where visors these days.

Bring the fedora back to the sidelines

FAALELE EXITS

Starting right tackle Daniel Faalele walked off in the middle of Friday’s practice despite Annexstad, a close friend, trying to keep him out there. It was a head-scratching scene, but Faalele returned a little while later.

“All I want to see is a response,” Fleck said. “He came back. I think he had to collect his thoughts. He was in there for a lot of plays. He has to keep getting better, but these are kids. We are constantly challenging them, and it’s not just on the field. It’s the emotional and the mental part.

“However he had to deal with that, he dealt with that. But he was right back,” Fleck continued. “That’s what I wanted to see. I’m not sitting there to judge the minute after that happens.”

Go Gophers!!

per Greder:

RUNNING BACKS FUMBLES

Presumptive starting running back Mohamed Ibrahim has been excused from spring practice while he’s on a study abroad trip. The other running backs, including Treyson Potts and Bryce Williams, had some down moments Friday with fumbles during the team portions of practice.

Which running backs joins Ibrahim in the Gophers’ stable is a big question leading up to the spring game on April 4.

Go Gophers!!

I don’t know what to make of this. read the replies too. He’s in Georgia right now.

Family or friend, something bad happen? Hope for the best, sorry to hear it

Yeah, now that there are more comments, that makes the most sense. He didn’t practice the other day, and PJ said he was injured, so I thought it might have something to do with that.

Which one is Lewis and which one Billy Ray?
