The guys found a way to accomplish another one of the goals they set at the beginning of the season tonight. It wasn't always pretty especially pitching wise and defensively but guys picked each other up and kept plugging away to get the win. Great outing by Jackson Rose getting the win going 4 innings allowing 5 hits 1 run walking 1 and striking out 2. 14 probably should've turned the game over to Rose after Jake Stevenson walked the leadoff hitter in the 3rd after I believe he had the hitter 0-2. You could tell Stevenson definitely had some nerves after he got that tapper to lead off the game and shortarmed it into the ground allowing the runner to reach instead of running it over and getting the out. Stevenson's stuff is decent and he got in trouble leaving a couple pitches up and then he tries to pick too much and doesn't challenge and throw enough strikes. He also was a little unlucky as was Rose UCLA had to have 5+ little bloopers get down just over the infielders head or just in front of a outfielder. Stevenson ended up going 2+ innings 4 hits 5 runs 2 walks and 1 hit batter. Brett Schulze didn't have great command but had a good outing with 2 scoreless innings 1 hit and 3 strikeouts. SR Fred Manke finished things off pitching the 9th and allowing 2 runs on 2 hits 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Fred probably should've had a better line as there was a fly ball the Alex Boxwell catches 95% of the time that dropped off his glove in the 9th and he also had the guy struck out twice that ended up hitting the double to score the 2 runs. Offensively everybody contributed. Homeruns from SRs Toby Hanson and Alex Boxwell. Hanson had 3 RBI and Boxwell had 4. 2 hits each from Luke Pettersen, Ben Mezzenga, Terrin Vavra, and Boxwell. This team has definitely had a great year and will celebrate what they have done so far but I also know in no way are they satisfied yet.
