2014 NCAA Tournament Thread: Buzzer Beaters, Bracket Busters & More...

Aggies goin to OT. Wow what a day of ball.

I felt comfortable that SDSU had it in the bag 15 minutes ago. Now I'm looking at multiple OTs possibly. Crazy!!

Multiple-Bid Conferences through Thursday

Records, with teams still remaining.

1. SEC (2-0) -- Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee
2. Mountain West (1-0) -- New Mexico, San Diego State
3. ACC (3-1) -- Duke, North Carolina, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia
T-4. American (2-1) -- Connecticut, Louisville, Memphis
T-4. Atlantic 10 (2-1) -- Dayton, George Washington, Massachusetts, Saint Louis, VCU
6. Big Ten (3-2) -- Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Wisconsin
T-7. Big East (1-1) -- Creighton, Providence, Villanova
T-7. Big XII (1-1) -- Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas
9. Pac 12 (1-2) -- Arizona, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA
10. WCC (0-1) -- Gonzaga

Noteworthy
ACC vs. Atlantic 10 (re: Coach K calling out A-10) = A-10 leads 1-0 after NC State's meltdown vs. Saint Louis
Big Ten vs. Big XII (re: generally regarded as season's best 2 conferences) = no games yet (tonight Baylor vs. Nebraska)

Thanks for the update. One item that I think bears mentioning is that not all conference matchups are created equal. Sure, the SEC beat us head to head. However, that was the SEC's third team struggling to get by the B1G's sixth team in tournament.

NCState and St. Louis did their best to argue both sides of the "free throws don't matter" debate. On the one hand, St. Louis won despite making less than half their free throws (how the heck does that happen). On the other hand. NC State luckily would have won had they been able to remedy one or two of their 17 missed free throws.

Watching these games make you realize how much the NIT blows.

Amen, Ruppert. An excellent first day yesterday, a quality mix of great games (several OT'ers), double-digit seeds showing their bite, and individual performances (Adreian Payne) that make you say wow.

The NIT often serves a valuable purpose (with a new coach & a lot of returning players, I think this is one of those times for the Gophers), but it really hits home what a downer it is to be in the NIT once the NCAA kicks into high gear. Just gotta' make the best of the NIT, and hopefully returning guys like Mo, King, Buggs, and McNeil get a lot out of it if the Gophers play for awhile.

It does, but would you rather be the Buffs getting absolutely smoked by Pitt or the Gophs right now?

Respectfully, Colorado every time. The Buffs did yeoman's work just to make the tournament after losing their best player (Dinwiddie). Their fans should feel really good about their season and the direction of their program.

Other than fans of Colorado-Pitt, come next Midnight Madness no one will remember they played one another in the NCAA tourney.

This is how I imagine SelectionSunday on the first weekend of the Tourney

Agree Selection...

No, Fargo blows. Moorhead sucks.....it's the prevailing westerlies.

I've told you before, 19, that it's Hunter, ND that blows and Herman, MN that sucks. Those winds just pass through here.

Nebraska and Providence can get off the schneid today

Only 6 major-conference programs have failed to win a NCAA tourney game since the calendar turned to the year 2000. Two take center stage today.

Major-Conference Programs With No NCAA Wins Since 2000
1. Nebraska (today vs. Baylor) -- Huskers have never won a NCAA game, period.
2. Northwestern
3. Oregon State
4. Providence (today vs. North Carolina)
5. Rutgers
6. South Carolina

I'll say 1 of the 2 gets off the schneid, but not sure which one it will be. Hope they both do it.

Since I have both teams advancing, let's hope they are due.

Wow go big 10. if we're lucky Nebraska might score 6 points this half.

Mercer giving Duke all they can handle.

GO MERCER.....hm, what is their mascot? Google google google...oh yes.

That would really bust my bracket. Worth it to watch Duke lose however.

how many people could have picked mercer? If it busts everyone's bracket, does it really matter?

It just depends on how far you had Duke going. If you had them losing to In the sweet 16, it won't hurt you at all compared to if you had them in the final four.

The issue wouldn't be the Duke-Mercer game by itself. Obviously nearly everybody has Duke winning that one. The dfference would be if someone had Duke going really deep, this could take away a lot of potential future points, whereas people who had Duke going down second or third round would be better off.
