2014-2015 Gopher Women's Season Thread!

We need Carlie on O. Zahui-B on D. And the rest do their jobs.

GO GOPHERS!!!

Ladys win in 2 OT

AZB with a ho hum 27 and 27

Didn't see Aubrey:cry:

Great outcome! A fun game to watch even tho they had trouble putting it away. Its nice the rest of their games seemed to be scheduled to be televised.

Can you imagine how good Z will B, when she imporoves as I know she will. And with Banham back next year? Sky's the limit. But good thing for us the WNBA doesn't pay that well, or I could see her leaving after next year.

Nice game for the girls. Stayed strong to win in double OT. This will pay off come tourney time.

Next two games..........Both on BTN..........last two games of regular season.

Tue., Feb. 24 at Nebraska * TV Lincoln, Neb. 8:00 p.m. CT

Sun., Mar. 1 at Iowa * TV Iowa City, Iowa 2:00 p.m. CT

2-3 Zone

I do not agree with staying in this soft 2-3 zone against teams that are not more athletic than us. Agree we do not match up well against Maryland and Rutgers but otherwise wish we would play man to man. Like the men, but not as bad, we give up too many easy 3's.

You obviously don't understand depth needed playing mtm.

What does Aubrey King have to do with what defense they play?

Incredible game to be at today. The crowd and Crazy Blanket Lady were electric and Zahui only fueled the fire. Big Z, Shae Kelley, and Carlie Wagner played great.

It's nice to have a team like this where you have confidence that in close games, they'll find a way to pull it out, because they've done it time and time again this season. That's what separates the good teams from the mediocre ones...the ability to win close games.

So some stats... Zahui now has 66 pts, 56 reb in her last 2 games combined. Just incredible!

Zahui: 27 pts, 27 reb, 5 blk
Kelley: 23 pts, 10 reb, 2 blk
Wagner: 21 pts, 6 assists, clutch end of game three (surprise, surprise)
Team: 22-6, 11-5 (B1G)

they have a good coach, bonifide top five player goes down and a new all American emerges.

Next woman up. I have no pity for teams that are pathetic enough to just collapse when a key player goes down. Great work by the Gophers coach and players this year, hope they make a big run in the tourney.

Theriot is out for the year now with ankle surgery. The Nebraska road game is very winnable.

Shayne Mullaney doesn't get the praise AZB, Kelley, and Wagner do, but she is just as important as anyone. Handles the ball a whole lot and has gotten much better with the turnovers. Is perhaps our most consistent 3-point shooter and is a good free throw shooter. I liked the foul strategy at the end of regulation but when Shayne did it and got her 4th one, I turned to my wife and said, "I hope it doesn't go into overtime." Gophers dodged a bullet there because Jacobs was out of control when she played in the first half because Mullaney had 2 fouls. Doubt we would have won if Mullaney had fouled out.

Weird game--felt totally in control and then they pressed and double-teamed and we sort of fell apart. We broke the press nicely but then blown lay-ups, dumb passes, a couple of muggings down in our end and it ended up a lot harder than it should have been.

Stollings has done an amazing job. Before Mullaney's free throws in OT, she called Shayne over, said something to her, and Shayne broke into a big smile. Fun to watch.

I think they've room to bring in two more ladies for next year's class. If they can get a power forward to replace Kelly, watch out.

Also have to replace Hurt. Not a star but she has provided valuable back-up minutes at the 4 and 5. Outside of Amanda and Shae, she is the only post player that plays at all.

I understood why they fouled at the end but thought the approach to doing it was odd. Why not try and steal the ball, be very aggressive on defense and see what happens? Just reaching out and fouling for the sake of fouling with minimal time run off the clock was questionable tactics from my point of view but in the final analysis I am just a fan and am happy to assume the coaches know what they are doing.

ESPN: Gophers' Zahui B. is player of week

Numbers -- even really gaudy ones -- do not alone secure someone winning espnW's national player of the week honor.

But when you put up mega-gaudy numbers and help your team win two crucial league games, you have a pretty good case for the award. And so for the second time this season, we give kudos to Minnesota center Amanda Zahui B., who filled up the stat sheet -- and then some -- this past week.

Tuesday, the "Big Z" piled up 39 points and 29 rebounds in the Gophers' 93-80 upset of No. 13 Iowa. Both were career highs for the sophomore, and the latter was also Big Ten record.

Then Saturday, Zahui nearly matched her rebounding mark, grabbing 27 boards, and also had 27 points as the Gophers held off Michigan 91-88 in double overtime. In the two games, Zahui was a combined 26-of-48 from the field and 12-of-13 from the line.

Oh, and Zahui also had nine blocked shots in the two games, giving her 109 this season. So she has already broken the single-season school record in blocks that she set last season as a freshman.

Wouldn't hirt to get name right.
