College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

Setting aside whether he'd be medically cleared (no small thing), I feel like any big man they take should be someone ready to play, not developmental.

40% from the 3pt line on nearly four attempts per game as a freshman.

Good call, didn't check that in my excitement about his 3PT shooting.

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

It feels to me that Coyle has planted the seeds of expectations for next year with his "preseason top 25" comments. This is a public statement that the program is improving and gives him an opening to make a move next year during the season rather than at or near season's end. On the latter...

Saban: the way players acted after Michigan loss contributed to retirement

Presumably you are at the pinnacle of your profession and decline being paid accordingly.

Rumor: Fleck to be considered for UCLA job.

Or, you know, the complete lack of a coaching resumé.

Rumor: Fleck to be considered for UCLA job.

I'd be very disappointed if this happened, but I am enjoying the thought of UCLA fans having to transition from watching Kelly's fast-paced offense to PJ's slow-it-down approach.

Even with poor non-conference slate, 21 wins should get the Gophers a ticket to the Madness

This is most likely correct. But historically, the best time to play Purdue is in March. If the team needs a good showing in the BTT, I wouldn't mind drawing them in the semis. A win there could make the championship moot on Selection Sunday. Thrilled this even a conversation in February.

    TV Viewership

100% agree. Real knowledge would be reflected in having predicted this before it happened. This is just using statistics to make unpopular decisions seem sensible and obvious.

2023-24 College Football Transfer Portal Thread

New portal entry from Syracuse: https://cuse.com/sports/football/roster/Kevon-Darton/22201 Not the typical transfer profile: former walk-on that earned a scholarship and played a lot. We did just hire a coach from Syracuse, but he's a pretty undersized DT for a B1G team playing a four-man front.

    Top College Football Job ?

I voted LSU, simply because it is the only school that has won multiple titles with multiple coaches. Three titles with three different HCs since 2003. You can recruit Texas and the southeast regionally and also get national recruits. Great, young alumni base in the NFL.

    DT > Mo ?

I always get chills listening to the Christensen call, never fails! It's also remarkable to notice how few people are on the Michigan sideline as Thompson runs past.

PJ having his own Reality TV show

I would be most interested in how the head coach and staff implement their culture. Obviously primarily for the Gophers, but each program has their own philosophical perspectives and it'd be cool to get behind the curtain to see how they cultivate that with their players.

    We’ve got our DC!

I think this board would have been split (at best) if the Gophers had hired Kalen DeBoer with his pre-UW resume to be the HC. When UW hired him he had one full season and one Covid season as HC at the NCAA level and was OC for just one season at the P5 level.

    We’ve got our DC!

While this criticism has some validity, most coaches are professional transients. It's not realistic to expect to keep a staff together the way Kill did. I also think PJ has been very transparent internally and externally about wanting a group of coaches that are on the up-and-coming side and...

    State of the offense

I love information like this, thanks for sharing. I follow Parker Fleming (@statsowar) on twitter and a couple of his recent data viz graphs are relevant to this discussion. First, our run defense last year combined average fits with bad tackling...

    The Final Straw

There are undoubtedly contracts of some kind between collectives and athletes, but specifying that those contracts require performance would also involve the school and become unenforceable very quickly for a variety of reasons. I’m sure there are several attorneys here that can use better...
