I really don't see why HS recruits would get any less scholarships- if anything there are more of them because of the move to 15 scholarships. What they might get is fewer high major offers and more mid major offers but still D1. The high majors are cleaning up in the portal - taking the best of the mid majors so certainly they are taking a fewer HS players, but those mid majors have to reload and they will recruit HS players as before.
 

Illinois took five high school recruits this year. With 15 scholarships, a couple of them can be developmental. With the top half of the roster costing big bucks, it is good to have some “cheaper” players at the bottom. If they work out, great. If not, they transfer down a level.

Recruiting is a lot different than it was in my younger years.

Arguably, their best player last year was a 3 star recruit. There's still some diamonds in the rough, but a lot of them seem to be going to smaller schools and transferring up. I still believe recruiting high school kids is important for development and the possibility of stability. Ex: look at the growth of Grayson and Issac in their time here.

The challenge with developing players is who really benefits from the development? If the developing team does, great. But it’s a high risk proposition. A lot of those guys will go to the highest bidder. Character is becoming even more important than ever. Give a guy a chance and need to have some certitude he will be treated well if he blows up and will stay.

St. Thomas I believe filled out their roster with JUCO players over HS, because you have to replace experience with experience in the new system. Also it's hard to find HS kids late in the process.

Every year is going to be different.
 

Yep.. they had given their one available scholarship to Mitchell… couldn’t really recruit any other High School players even early in the season let alone this late…

Yes and no. Those mid majors may be able to fill their ranks with high major guys that didn't pan out or were passed by someone else on the roster. The tweet referenced D1 offers being at the lowest point for in state guys in quite some time not just high major offers.

Could also be a reflection on the caliber of current in state players but it does make sense that it is going to be tougher on high school players, especially in basketball, to land those D1 offers out of high school as those teams gravitate more towards transfers.
 








Ahmed Nur just earned MVP of the NBPA top 100 camp. I am not sure what chance the gophers had previously, but I can see some blue bloods offering now.

I watched a few clips of Nur during these camps. He played the 4/5 for Hopkins, and the guards shot a lot. He is showing big time SF skills at 6-9 at these camps. He can handle it, hit from 3, and drive from 3 to the rim. He is rising fast and Kentucky has offered. Possibly the next Minnesota McDonald's all american.

I've had quite the summer so far. The less common birds I've had near my house include:
Indigo Bunting
Eastern Warbling Vireo
Tennessee Warbler
Red-eyed Vireo
Chimney Swift
Great Crested Flycatcher
Chestnut-sided Warbler
and also a Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

If you don't already have it, I can't recommend the Merlin Bird ID app highly enough. It's amazing.

We are seeing our high school players get a lot less D1 interest overall. Hardly anyone out. Kids that were easy mid-major a couple of years ago now don't hear from them until senior year, and are looking much more at NSIC and other D2 options. Then, they move to mid-majors a couple of years later.
