Gopher Potential Portal Pursuits

Sure, it'd be better if Mitchell was 6'11", but there really aren't any starting quality Center's that size that we could get. Our old Center Pharrell Payne's only an inch taller than Mitchell at 6'9". With no Zach Edey, the league got a lot smaller this season as well.
Michigan just got 2 Centers over 7ft and Fitzsimmons went to Northwestern now is 7 ft. It would be nice to get 1 more Center who is little taller. In basketball you can play different lineups now.

Sure there will be plenty of rotation of 2/3 of Garcia, Mitchell, Fox, Betts, Grove. Whether 1 starts or now there is still lots of minutes to be had. Plus need to be prepared as Garcia and Fox have missed plenty of games already through the years.

Fitzmorris is 7 feet tall and averages 4 rebounds a game. He’s I’ll take Frank the tank 😎

I'd MUCH rather have Hawkins, and it isn't even close, but I'd much rather have Patterson than go into the season with Asuma/Mike Mitchell running the show. Patterson makes a lot of sense for all involved.

Patterson has started 82 of the 101 games he has played since he was a sophomore and he's done that with two different teams. He will be a 5th year senior next season and based on my observations over the last 3 years, players tend to be especially productive in their 5th years. This is a no-brainer if we can get him.

no shortage of 7 footers in the portal - most have yet to produce much. add that the 6'9" guy started over treyton thompson and jack whats his name

Me too. Fitzmorris would have been a good complimentary player to have (because he could shoot from outside and was a good free throw shooter) but I don't think we could have afforded him along with our other needs.

True, but according to DeSigma (whose credibility has been demonstrated on multiple occasions), Patterson was interested in moving closer to home.
I remember somebody dropping that and that would be impressive inside scoop if this dude ends up committing to us

Entertain all the visiting recruits at PJ Fleck's "resort-syle" home!

I know CBJ has stated that he has to take those who accept his offer, but I'm holding out for Fitzmorris (Sr. 6'11 Stonybrook), or Christian Reeves (So. 7'1" Dook) as best rotational pieces with Mitchell. Neither can demand excessive NIL. It seems that commits come quickly after visits, so maybe I'm holding out for air biscuits.

Lu’Cye Patterson enters the transfer portal and pulls a Hawkins by bailing on his commitment. Most likely to land with Minnesota. I’m hearing it’s a done deal.
Was this the news you had before? or is there something else coming for us too now?

Fitzmorris already signed with Norhtwestern.

Just curious if this was the news that you previously indicated was coming?

Would be an interesting pickup. He averaged 2.5 assists per game, 2nd on the team behind Nik Graves (2.8).

I wonder if this would mean having less of a ball dominant point guard system next year, after back to back years of having top 10 assists per game guys in Cooper and Hawkins.

I wonder if returning to MN would be more attractive for Cam Christie if he had an opportunity to have the ball more than last year.

EDIT: Also just noticed his size was listed at 6'1" 230 on Basketball reference, but on the Charlotte site it's at 6'2" 205 and 6'1" 210 on ESPN which after watching some highlights seems more accurate.

The plus side for Christie here as compared to other college opportunities is that Ben gave him a total green light here and he would definitely have a shot at putting up big numbers in the coming season here. I think Ben overlooked things with Christie that he would not have with other players because Ben correctly saw that Christie has to become the star for this team to go to the next level.

Just a total guess here, but that deferential treatment may have caused issues in the eyes of JOJ and Carrington who got sat down for some issues they may have seen Christie having as well. Christie has great potential but Ben definitely put him in a position to show his stuff and learn on the job.

GH MVP at this point

Much needed and a little jolt into the program

Pulls a Hawkins? Is he going to commit, then back out?

Your use of English is questionable.

Then again, if you’re right, you may be the GH Mesiah!

So speak in whatever way you wish sir.

A line up of:
PG: Patterson/Asuma
SG: Mitchell/Rigsby
SF: Christie
PF: Garcia/Fox
C: Mitchell/Edmonds

Would actually be pretty good IMO. 3 of those guys aren't officially back/on the roster, but I'd be pretty happy with that outcome, and would be a step in the right direction, and on paper is better than last year's roster IMO.
Agree 100%.

PG: a) Patterson (Hawk was one of my favorite players in a long time, but, I would rather have Patterson in the B1G.) This could very well be an improvement.
b) Asuma is an improvement over Mitchell or Christie as a backup PG. Not even close. I don't care that he is a Frosh.

SG: a) Mitchell = More of the same...at least. Don't rule out a slight improvement.
b) Rigsby = Improvement over Carrington. Can actually shoot the 3.

SF: a) Christie = Potential for huge step up. Likely at least some improvement from a good Frosh season.
b) Odukale = Nice depth here or at SG. Improvement.
c) Betts = If he surprises that would be a huge improvement. Has been nonexistent so far

PF: a) Garcia = More of the same. Assuming another very good season.
b) Fox = More of the same at least. Knee even stronger would lead me to guess he will be improved.
c) Grove = We'll see.

C: a) Mitchell = At worst a push. Invaluable to have that type of glass cleaner if it translates to the B1G. Size doesn't concern me. Dennis Rodman is 6' 7". Jordan Murphy played PF, not C, but cleaned the glass besides being undersized.
b) Edmonds = Improvement over Big Jack. Had a soft spot for Wilson but Edmonds feels like a legit backup.

Added all together. This roster would be a serious improvement over last years.

No one's arguing it wouldn't be nice to a have a 7 footer who can play. That point is self-evident. It's also no secret the staff is looking for a back-up Center, who can be this year's Jack Wilson, or Charlie Daniels. I have no doubt we will land one. I just don't expect that guy to be a starter.

Michigan was able to land Danny Wolf because they have a fortune to spend in NIL money, and the other followed his coach to Michigan. Northwestern was able to add a Grad Transfer who began at Stanford, and wants to do his Grad work at Northwestern.

Again, it'd be nice to have some more size, but Minnesota is Minnesota. Our win/loss record over the past 30 years isn't impressive. Our NIL resources are limited. There's not a recruit alive who's ever watched us in the NCAA tourney. CBJ's doing what he can, with what we have to work with.

Frank Mitchell looks like a nice addition. Sort of a poor man's Pharrel Payne, and if we can land the 6'10" guy from UTSA, that would be a nice addition as well.

Patterson recently said he was staying in Charlotte. Now changed his mind.

Hell yeah this is a no-brainer if we can land him! I'm just saying, he's no Elijah Hawkins. He's more like a Ta'Lon Cooper.

100%. People claiming that JoJ wasn't playing because his defense wasn't up to snuff, clearly never watched Christie play defense. Or Mike Mitchell for that matter.

The difference this time is that Patterson would be joined by Asuma, Mitchell and Christie (hope inserted here) as opposed to who Cooper played with.
