College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

In recent days, the quality of players entering the portal wasn't so good overall but the quality so far today (4/30) is really high on the whole for the few players entering so far.
Last chance to get in and still be eligible for upcoming season. I am sure the behind the scenes tampering is off the charts right now.

Coach is about 8% of it, 90% money, 2% location
Think coach is a bit more like 30-40%. Even with all the NIL money I am sure next year their will be some teams that have lower NIL caps than us who will have good seasons. There will still be some upsets in the NCAA tourney. Players need a coach who going to develop and get them to play at their best.

i think the percentages refer to 'where players sign" and not "where they get to by end of season'

If we get Trey Edmonds and Lu'Cye Patterson...if nothing else we are very old. I don't think this looks like a very competitive team in the Big Ten though.

Patterson - 5th year
Mike Mitchell - 4th year
Rigsby - 4th year
Garcia - 5th year
Frank Mitchell - 4th year
Trey Edmonds - 4th year
Fox - 8th year

Some of that will depend on how good the B1G is. If we get Patterson, Edmonds and Christie comes back, I think on paper the roster will be better than last year. If the B1G is like it was last season, and teams like UCLA, USC and Washington stay the same, I can see a +.500 finish. We'll just have to see what plays out with everyone else. Teams like Michigan, UCLA, Rutgers, and MD all appear to be much improved from last year on paper.

Christie would be a huge difference if this was the roster - High impact wing

Add Christie to these veterans and you would probably be much improved. Older players play a better brand of basketball than young punks. And the young guy, Christie, has already proven he plays the game right.

Indiana looks great on paper right now. Could be the best team next year, although woodson is still the coach.

Yeah, add a few more pieces like the ones mentioned and bring back Christie and you may have something. A more developed Cam combined with Garcia would be a deadly 1-2 combo. Add a solid PG and some more frontcourt depth and this could be a good team next year if the pieces click.

I seem to recall most people around here saying that last year.

No way is a Coach with that much any more. these players have Agents.... they could care less who the coach is... All about the money

Unless the player wants to improve his skills.
Then the coach makes all the difference.

hercy miller in the portal. iirc he has his own $2M deal
Always has been over rated. Not sure his offers to Lousiville and LSU were even real. Tried to piggy back off of Chet and Suggs like Romeo did with Demar Derozan.

Indiana looked good on paper last year and underperformed, despite having Superman’s Dad at center.
They were picked to be in the top 3 in the conference by many but it's still a team sport and the pieces still have to fit.

In:
