Like I said earlier, players like Williams who have a ton of offers and still haven't committed are usually waiting for one they really want.

If it makes you feel better think of this: tell me who had high ratings or really good offer lists out of this years best players on our team?
Defense:
Murray
BBC
Wilson
Lynn
Botti
Richardson
Cockran
Thompson
Travis
Johnson
- may have been less than 5 other power conference offers between those guys

Offense:
Cobb
Maxx
Campion
Moose
Olson
Epping
- Maxx made an all star team but both he and TO committed early and I don't recall a bunch of offers. Cobb had none and neither did Moose.

Agree with all of this. With lowly rated recruits, we won 8 games last year and will win 8-9 this year. While I'm thrilled with the improvement under Kill, I'm a greedy Gopher fan. I want to see 10+ wins consistently, I want to beat Becky 15 years in a row, and I'd like to experience multiple Rose Bowl appearances. To do this, recruiting needs to get better, even the coaches have said so. Claeys said the improvement we made last year would show up with this year's class. Up until this year, IMO every class appeared to get better. So my question is just this: Do you think the 2015 class will be better than the 2014 class? My opinion is it doesn't look that way.

Very marginal class. With what we have left on the board I'm not so sure we will fill out. I believe we've 4-6 open slots. Maybe we can grab a couple of quality JC recruits for the defensive line. When you consider the type of season we had at this point I would give recruiting a grade of C. I believe on Rivals right now we're currently ranked at #43.

I think our crew is doing fine recruiting everywhere but for in Minnesota. They're getting kids from around the country who can play and who they coach up and who turn into really solid B1G players. They do the same with the Minnesota kids, but for the big time recruits which (other than Jones) we have not landed at all. There won't be a lot of these high end homegrown kids that come down the pike, but for the three or four or five a year I'd really like to see us close the border a bit better. We're not going to get them all we just need to hit a higher percentage than we have to date. To me, Coughlin is a bell cow. With his background if we miss on him it'll hurt, and hurt bad.

Really - So you still make your evaluations of a class based on Rivals' rankings. A slow learner huh? We have and could discuss again how and why Kill and his coaches recruit but some of you still don't get it.

Do you think the 2015 class is better than the 2014 class?

Really? So at #44 nationally and 7th in the B1G, this is Kill's highest rated class, and it's marginal? What about the 2012 and 2013 classes ranked #73 and #61 nationally and dead last in the B1G? You know the majority of the Gophers starters this year came from these two classes right?

Do you think the 2015 class is better than the 2014 class?

I would say for the most part they are close. There isn't a player that was being recruiting like Jones was so I can see people arguing '14 was better.

Many of this year's most highly recruited guys are OL, which just isn't as flashy as a 4-star RB or high 3-star WR. I'm extremely excited about Croft. I think he has better offers overall if he doesn't commit to us so early.

Do you think the 2015 class is better than the 2014 class?

2 things.
1)this class is OL heavy, with two instate kids who committed early. Moore and Oseland are nice gets. OL never gets people excited when it comes to recruits because these guys aren't going to impact early.
2)the nature of this class is also DB heavy, which can in theory be splashy, but really our best defensive backs have been two star no names under Sawvel. He recruits a body type and skill set that fits our scheme over ranking numbers and stars.

This class is going to help solidify the foundation of this program, our OL and RB stable will continue to be deep, our secondary too.
For what it's worth I see some big time potential in Connelly, Croft, and Beebe. Those guys could grow into multiyear starters/stars once they get into the strength and conditioning programs at the U.

A couple of highly recruited players like Jones would change the perception. My concern is the lack of DT's in this class since we had to play all those true freshmen last year. Those are the guys that take the longest to develop, particularly since we are generally signing undersized prospects. Coaches worked wonders with that group this year.

Colton Beebe might foot the DT bill if he continues to grow in size & strength. We've got JoJo Garcia in 2016. Are the Gopher still pursuing Jamal Milan from Illinois?

We are only ranked 56th from a composite basis.

I kind of expected this class might be a little worse than last years as we aren't going to get a consensus top 100 guy every single class. To be fair Holland and Gentry weren't committed until late january so it's not fair to compare the two classes just yet.

DE is a little concerning to me. We have five on scholarship right now going into next year and two are seniors. We don't have a DE committed right now.

OH MY GOD WE LOST THE 2015 RECRUITING BOWL!!!

I'm making my evaluation on the season we had enhanced by a major bowl appearance. The Rivals ranking will change as we have teams like Stanford below us who only have 12 commitments . Composite rankings we will probably end up in the 50's. What you need to look at is the number of
kids we are still in on and the ones scheduled.to visit. It is starting to shrink. I trust the coaches in their evaluation. I'm just somewhat perplexed that at this stage is not what I expected after the season we had.

Makes sense when 50% of parents will not let their kid play football. It's the beginning of the end.

Claeys said, the season you are currently having is usually reflective the following school year.

Generally speaking I often wonder if kids who pick Notre Dame would get accepted if they weren't playing football.

I think it was Claeys who said a season's results don't pay recruiting dividends until the following school year as most kids already have their minds made up by the time the season ends. Although we had a good year last year, I wonder if a fair amount of recruits thought it might have been a fluke. Now that we had another good season with forward progress, this year's results should show in the 2016 recruiting class.

Edit- I see 4four4 beat me to it.

Looks like we were able to redshirt about 12 scholarship players this fall. So we really are bringing in about a 37 player class next fall. Kill's recruiting is getting better. The hardest sell I believe is the local kid with no real ties to the U. If we can get more of those highly rated kids locally, it will only help. Winning will help get them. IMO most kids want to go away from home for college.

Thing is, Green's dad played for the U and Carlberg's relatives all wanted him to be a gopher but we still couldn't get them.

Big kids that can move and play with good leverage are hard to come by

Mose Hall would be a big get for the Gophers if we can get him. Our style of defensive lineman, attacks the football and seems to play relentless chasing the football. I for one would be faily pumped if we could bring in Hall and some how manage to swing and hit with John Kelly.

Do you think the 2015 class is better than the 2014 class?

First, as coach Kill would say, it takes two years before you can begin to answer that question. Second, how good a class is also dependent upon how well it is meeting your recruiting needs. My answer to that would be it appears that both the 2014 and 2015 classes in there own way were very focused on doing that. Recruiting shouldn't be viewed as isolated events but as part of a long term plan. Third, because Kill and his staff recruit athletic players with higher than average upside potential, it is even more difficult for us to know the quality of these recruits. In addition they also recruit players that are likely to be better team players and buy into what Kill is building but again it is not possible for us to evaluate this factor.

My problem with your question is not that it isn't an interesting question but for so many reasons, none of us here have the understanding and or knowledge to answer it. That why I say "In Kill we Trust."

I don't get it either.

They were just in the National Championship a few years ago, and they send a lot of players to the NFL. Seven 1st or 2nd rounders in the last three years, more than Ohio St., Oregon, and Auburn.
