Paul Chryst poised to return to UW as head coach, according to source

It's funny watching you trying to convince yourself of this great hire and how important it apparently is for you that we agree with it. We're happy for you, you got an awesome coach who, if it wasn't for UW snatching him up, would be fawned upon by ADs across the nation.

Go Gophers!!

+1.

The assumption of Badger fans that Chryst will be a good head coach is astounding. There is zero evidence that he's a good head coach. Pitt was NOT the train wreck badger fans speak of when defending Chryst's record there. 24-15 in the previous 3 years to his arrival and 19-19 since? Pitt was in much better shape than what Kill inherited and he managed to show huge improvement in year 3. Chryst's teams showed ZERO improvement from year to year as far as on field results goes. He's not exactly enthusiastic about recruiting either. Some guys are just better coordinators than they are head coaches and I'm not even close to convinced that Chryst has what it takes to lead a BIG program. I guess we'll see.

Thanks for the info. Good points. As you said, guess we'll see. Go Gophers! Ski-U-Mah!

So if it is going to be Chryst today would be the first day they could make it official.

Supposed to be announced at 6 PM.

The fans of the team affected are almost always going to rationalize why it is a good thing. Badger fans like to make fun of Gopher fans for doing this, yet they are essentially doing the same thing.

I get what they are doing, we do the same thing. I just can't stand when their fanbase acts like they don't have the same reactions to things like this when they do.

Yeah I can agree with you on that, but wow its tough to listen to some of the comments. Half of it makes absolutely zero sense.

Yikes... If Bleed is posten junk, you know you're a blockhead....

You should try some of these new fangled techno toys they have now. Smart phone, tablet, even those PC things. They make it very easy to post on the intrawebs. I can even do it between seeing patients.

"Prevention is the preferable cure." - Throwaway the smart phone doc.

You're not servicing your patients very well if you're itchen to post on gopherhole.com while they tell you about their itchy buttholes.

There really was no comment on how good you are or aren't but besides the fact that you think Chryst is the savior and is a good move, which you are ignorant about. When is winning a division title and having your head coach then leave for another program ever a good thing?

This literally just made me spit out my coffee. Bravo! Perhaps something is wrong........thinking I should make an appointment with good old badgerdoc. Hopefully he can fit me into his busy schedule.

Or. I am not at work when I am posting, but that's probably too complicated for you boys and girls to contemplate.

Obviously the wisdom of the Chryst hire wI'll play out overtime. But think Bo Ryan/Badger BB and you will be in the ballpark.

Also, keep in mind that Alvarez has never hired a football coach who posted anything but a winning record.

I don't think too many people are saying Wisconsin will go back to the Jardine days or anything. Chryst has been average so far as a head coach. It's really not hard to understand that you guys are going to look at the more positive side (success as a OC, Madison guy, etc) while those on the outside will look at the negative stuff (mediocre as a head coach so far).

Newflash dude. I sonr know abour the mighty twin citiws bur down here in Wisconsin, hospitals stay open all night long. I just happened to be on call when the breaking news was happening

You don't get to have it both ways.

So why don't you just piss off?

I will try to type more slowly.

I actually can have it both ways. As a physician I work between 50 and 60 hours a week that may be literally any hour of the week. It varies from week to week and day to day. I have posted in the middle of the night when nothing was happening at work And a whole bunch this week when I am off of work. In Wisconsin we call it vacation.

I have posted on a topic about the new football coach at my alma mater.

On a board with a bunch of typical gopher fans.

One would think you would have more interesting things to do than post about the new hire at your most hated rival. But apparently no.

But truly, thanks for the support and the entertaining (if nonsensical) replies.

Look at his three year record at Pitt. False bravado by Badger fans. When Alabama lays 60 points on them next year watch the crying start.

You're not a physician. I don't know any physicians that are as dense as you are. Nurse.

Maybe you should be writing about your fellow badger fans over at buckyville. They have a long thread about what a Daily Gopher blogger thinks of Andersen leaving. You would think they would have more interesting things to do than post about what a blogger thinks about their coaching situation.

Once again, you badger fans think you're so much different when you do essentially the same thing.

I find it hard to believe that GopherHolers even comment on a thread about Wisconsin's possible coach and arguing with badgerdoc.

Are GH'ers really that obtuse? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

What part isn't clicking for you?

You posted:
"Or. I am not at work when I am posting"

When I pointed that out to you, you replied:
"I have posted in the middle of the night when nothing was happening at work"

And stop with the passive aggressive insults, it makes you look like a child.

You are so delusional. You're hiring an unproven head coach with NO track record of success and you act like you just hired Bear Bryant. Bucky fans just assume that their program won't skip a beat when in reality programs do not sustain themselves, good coaches do. Look at Michigan. One bad hire and it ruined them for years. There's a reason Alabama had to find a new coach in 2007. Notre Dame was down for years when they couldn't find the right guy(Davie, Willingham). These are elite programs but they still need the right coach to remain elite or we see what can happen. I know it's natural for bucky fans to look at the positive side of all this but it seems to me they are seeing what they want to see. Time will tell.

I truly hope you are not a physician. The work quack comes to mind. I am sorry you had to attend the University of Wisconsin. My apologies. The breaking news about the hiring of your new coach wants me to take a dump. No one cares !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Except we are great. Or at least consistently very good. GA was a very good coach. He left. The immediate replacement most knowledgeable Badgers fans wanted was Chryst. In fact, many people wanted him instead of Bielema and most wanted him the last time when GA was hired. This is not "settling" in any way shape or form.

Jan. 2012

"That being said, I think Paul Chryst will absolutely melt under the pressure of being a head coach. His personality and interpersonal skills do not match well with the requirements of the role."

"Frankly, the fact that BA had to sell him because he couldn't 100% sell himself is sort of telling, at least to me."

"We won two Rose Bowls without Chryst. We'll be fine, just gotta let it all work itself out."

"Based on what I heard of how the Chryst exit has gone done, he can f*** off and go be a mediocre head coach at Pitt (he will be)."

You should stop by and let me check out that colon issue you've got. It is NOT normal to want to evacuate your colon at the notice of exciting breaking news.

By the way, Chryst is rocking the press conference. A great example of home town boy makes good.

Don't want to get involved in the p***ing match. Just wanted to say that I knew Paul Chryst's father, George - the long-time head coach at UW-Platteville. We've all run across coaches who were on ego trips - but George Chryst was one of the nicest and most well-adjusted coaches I've encountered. A truly nice person and a solid coach. his teams ran a double-wing offense and always put up good numbers in a very competitive conference.

I've never met the son, but I hope for his sake he inherited his father's personality.

Beyond that, I will never understand why people go on another team's board to try and agitate fans. A pointless waste of time. Badgerdoc, could you please stay on your own turf? I don't give a rat's butt what you have to say about anything. Oh, and one more thing: 59-0; 59-0; 59-0; 59-0; 59-0; 59-0; 59-0; 59-0.......

Let's get back to the subject at hand.

I find it interesting that programs, when choosing a new coach, often look first and foremost to overcome the precieved liability of a just departed coach (or coaches). In other words, the new coach is picked in reaction to the previous coach.

For example, Glen Mason was considered a poor recruiter, so Tim Brewster, considered a world class recuiter, was hired.

Then Tim Brewster proved to be a world class bull$hit artist, so Jerry Kill, known for his straighforwardness and basics-driven approach, was hired.

Now Wisconsin has lost two coaches in short order. They seem to be reacting by having "Wisconsin Guy" be the at top of the criteria.

Maybe it will work, but maybe not.
