So after the Michigan win I kind of figured we had 3 relatively "easy" wins ahead of us. It turns out Northwestern is pretty solid so that became two "easy" wins after beating NW. Now all of a sudden Purdue beats Illinois and is giving MSU a good game. I haven't watched much of their game vs MSU, but are we in for another dog fight next week? Hats off to coach Hazell for rallying the troops.
 

We're going to roll them. Purdue is battling but msu is totally imploding
 

Ya, I think this is more MSU doing what they're apparently famous for now.

Plus, they're at home.
 




As long as were are up at halftime against the Boilerturds, we'll be Golden.
 

Never overlook another Big Ten team. Purdue may be one of the worst teams in the conference........but I assume that they have the talent to surprise. As someone else said.......they gave MSU a game. They also gave ND a decent game. This is a team that can put up points. While I think that we should win handily........if Purdue drives on us early and puts up some points.......it may not be the slam dunk that some assume.
 

Akeem Hunt is having a really nice season for the Boilermakers. Gophers offered him out of high school (as did Wisconsin and a number of other solid programs). Could be a game similar to today's if Purdue dinks and dunks it all over the place.
 

I think the term "any given sunday" (insert saturday) applies to B1G games. It may not be as wide open as the NFL, but when 2 B1G teams play either team has a chance. If the gophers execute their gameplan, don't turn the ball over, and clean up our penalties, we should win this game. But as you can see from the NW game there are a lot of factors in play and anybody can win any day.
 



They have athletes on scholarship too!

Come and play well, Gophers will probably win. Just show up and the Gophers will lose.

Yup. It usually doesn't happen, but from time to time a bad team beats a good team. Remember two pretty bad Gopher teams beating two pretty good Iowa teams at TCF in back to back years not too long ago. Iowa is a well-coached team that plays defense, runs the ball, and isn't prone to make mistakes. That said, hey got outplayed and outcoached on those days. Stuff happens. Our offense is prone to stall out from time to time and we have a QB that occasionally turns the ball over. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this game was fairly close.

MG, is there a college football team whose QB doesn't occasionally turn the ball over?
 




Maybe Pur-don't will overlook us and be looking ahead to playing the Huskers! :D
 

At the end of the day, we are a much better team than Purdue. If this game turns out the wrong way, it will be because we lost it, not because they won it. We are in charge of this one, and if we do what we are supposed to, we will win, and if we lose it will be because we choked.
 


Purdue will be easy pickings. They should be in emotional letdown stage after spitting the bit at home against MSU. Now they go back out on the road to face a good team. Don't like this spot for Purdue at all.

I think Illinois will be a much harder game than most of us are imagining. There's no such thing as an easy win on the road in the B1G & we could get caught basking in our 6-1 record & looking ahead to the big showdown with Iowa.

Depends. He has thrown the ball 155 times this year and ran the ball 49 times. That is 204 plays and two turnovers. He is turning the ball over 0.98% of the time then.

As a comparison, David Cobb who "never" turns the ball over (as most people who assess the running back would say), has carried the ball 154 times and caught it 7 times and turned the ball over twice for a percentage of 1.24%.

So I guess it's however you want to look at it.

And Leidner, who has attempted 91 passes with 5 INT's and rushed 34 times with 2 fumbles. Total touches of 125 with 7 TO's for a turnover percentage of 5.6%.

True, but every coach is aware of this & even the best of the best can't overcome it sometimes. From a gambling perspective, year in & year out, there's no better wager than a home team underdog.
 

MSU had a letdown after the Nebraska win. Against Purdue they sat back on their heels defensively.
If watched both games the intensity level against Purdue was blasé.

Their QB is nowhere near as good as Simien. Much more erratic. Think we should see 2 Ints if our D comes to play. I'd blitz him all game. We have the CBs to lock down Purdue's WRs
 


Coach Kill certainly will prep his team not to take Purdue and Illinois lightly.

Get over confident and any of these two teams can pull an upset.

It is going to be a fight all the way to the B1G West Title and for a ticket to Indianapolis.

This is the most excited I am about the Gophers season in a long long time.
 

In 1960, Purdue went 4-4-1. One of their wins was in Minneapolis against the eventual National Champion Gophers.

Better Gophers teams have lost to very average Purdue teams in Minnesota. It's important that the players know this.
