Getting this thread back on topic i saw Gentry's hudl highlights were posted on YT and thus can be posted here. You guys can't honestly say this is a MAC caliber player and isn't one of our best gets.
 

Also a better video of Holland that includes his state tourney performances and a full 19 minutes of film.

 

He's good. Talent-wise, and in terms of athletic ability and potential, he's better than any other WR on the roster currently, with perhaps Donovahn Jones being the only exception (M Holland may be as gifted).
 

Lo, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth (circa December 2013) of gopher fans as no receiver recruits could be found in all the land. Then the clouds parted and there was manna from heaven.

Crazy, isn't it? Our receiving personnel will see a near complete turnover by 2015. Along with the young tight ends Williams, Anyanwu, Wozniak we will have Woli, Jones, Carter, Maye, Holland jr, Gentry and a new white speed receiver, krizancic.

Holland Jr and Gentry are certainly different kinds of players, almost look like Cris Carter/Randy Moss by physical body type appearance (no, not putting in that league).

I wonder if we will ever see anything from Brian Smith, a 6-4 walk-on from Wisconsin.

I didn't see Eric Carter play during the spring game? Thoughts?
 

Sure the videos look good, but we all know that stars and other offers is all that matters.

yep, Holland is an espn 4 star and had 4 other BCS offers though so he doesn't really fit that description although Gentry does.
 

I don't know if that's good or not so good, but, at the end of the season we will know what the philosophy for 2014 was. And, the Conference record will be the final grade to determine where that philosophy led the quarterbacks and the team in comparison to the other teams in the conference.

Indisputable point wren. Let's hold it there until the season is over and then get back with us.

Carter was out there, he's Maye's backup in the slot. I don't think he caught a pass.

I would love to have been his HS QB. He is explosive, really goes after the ball and gets wide open. Easy, easy throws for TD's.

After reading the qb coach's philosophy, I think we can expect to see who ever is playing qb ready to fly around and make some hits rather than taking some hits in the pocket.

Gentry does look explosive out of his breaks and seems to run good route adjustments

I agree he looks explosive out of his breaks. Dude is kind of skinny but he uses his body well to shield off defenders and catches the ball with his hands and attacks the ball with his hands first, not a body catcher so he is already above some of the guys we have in house as far as that learning curve goes.

I think this video may be deceptive. %80 of the catches were him just flying by DBs who don't have anything close to his speed and making catches while WIDE OPEN, having ran 2-3 steps beyond anyone covering him. Once he comes up against div I talent, he won't be just running past DBs to make wide open catches.

I would bet he would be able to on deep routes with those long strides of his. He looks like a kid that would excel in the 100 and 200 meters.

I think you could say the same thing about any really good receiver recruit.

The D1 defense will be an interesting gauge to measure against, true. But I like his 6'4".

And you base this on what??? It's called having moves. He ran past them after making good moves.

In the end, have we had a wide receiving class this good in the last twenty years? They are legitimate BIG players, IMO. In most years, we'd be lucky to have one.

Well, I just about always don't even bother to respond to these attacks that this killjoy, rescooter, unregisteredanimalwithakeyboard make, while leeking crap all over when ever Christmas comes around , and some of their other henchmen attempt to cheer them on. But, every once in a while I have to "flip 'em off", spit in their faces, come back at them with their own trash and remind them that I never let ba$hers and/or ba$tards get me down. Fair enough. To be honest, I stopped paying close attention to recruiting around 2010/2011ish. That said, I haven't ever completely turned a blind eye to recruiting. With Harbison and McDonald, I hoped for good results, as both seemed to have some of the requisite tools. Whereas now I fully expect Holland to be an impact player, and hope for good results from the rest. If you subtract Holland from the equation, I'd put the Harbsion/McDonald duo above our current class, w/ Holland I'd say this is our best class.

I agree with this - based on expectations at the time. However, everyone is forgetting our highest rated recent WR recruit - Hayo.
